[0:01] In January, Jefferson Park in Blaine is [0:04] dormant. Snow is on the ground and the [0:07] playground is empty. [0:09] But soon that will change. According to [0:12] Jerome Kger, the Blaine Parks and Recck [0:15] Director, this facility is getting a [0:18] brand new play area. [0:19] >> We try to replace equipment uh every [0:22] kind of 18 to 22 years. Um, this one [0:26] being 20 years old was on the list to uh [0:28] get uh um replaced. It's $115,000 [0:33] project u for the uh playground [0:35] equipment installation, the fiber and a [0:38] concrete border [0:39] >> when the snow melts and the ground is no [0:42] longer frozen. The playground will rise [0:44] up and be ready sometime in the spring. [0:49] >> We've been getting equipment in before [0:51] the kids get out of school. So, usually [0:53] late April, early May, uh this will [0:56] probably be in the ground and ready to [0:57] go so that the kids once they get out of [0:59] school and everything else can enjoy it [1:01] all summer long. We have 54 uh [1:04] playground sets in our in our city. In [1:06] the last 10 years, we've replaced 36 [1:09] sets of of playground equipment already. [1:12] >> Kger says Blaine is a park ccentric [1:14] city. [1:15] >> Blaine has a lot of parks. We have we [1:17] have many parks, probably more parks [1:19] than most uh cities of of our size. [1:22] >> Blaine's goal is to make each park [1:24] unique. [1:25] >> We build different playgrounds in [1:27] different uh colors and different uh uh [1:30] shapes and sizes, and we want the [1:32] community to get out and actually go and [1:34] and visit uh the different parks [1:36] >> in Blaine.
