[0:39] [music] [0:45] [music] [0:58] >> [music] [1:06] >> We celebrate Veterans [music] Day on the [1:09] anniversary [1:11] of the armisters that ended World War I. [1:15] The armistice [music] that began on the [1:16] 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th [1:19] month. The timing of this holiday is [1:21] quite deliberate in terms of historical [1:23] fact. [music] [1:25] But somehow it always seems quite [1:27] fitting to me that this day comes [1:29] [music] deep in autumn. The colors are [1:31] muted when the day seem to invite [1:34] contemplation. [1:37] It is a way [1:39] to honor [music] those who died in [1:41] defense of our country in defense of us. [1:46] [music] [1:48] Imagination plays a trick. We see these [1:51] soldiers in our minds. [1:53] [music] [1:55] Most of them were [1:58] gone. [2:00] [music] [2:03] world. When they died, they gave up [2:06] their chance [music] to be husbands and [2:07] fathers and grandfathers. They gave up [2:10] their chance to be revered old men. [2:14] [music] They gave up everything for our [2:17] country, for us. [music] [2:19] And all we can do is remember, [2:23] I will not fail thee [music] nor forsake [2:25] thee. In memory of those who gave the [2:28] last full measure of devotion. May our [2:30] efforts to achieve [music] lasting peace [2:32] gain strength. [2:35] Let us make a [music] vow to our dead. [2:39] Let us show them by our actions that we [2:41] understand what they died for. [2:44] Strengthened [music] by their courage, [2:46] hardened by their value, and born with [2:48] their memory. [2:50] Let us continue [music] to stand for the [2:52] ideals for which they lived and died. [3:00] [music] [3:06] [music] [3:06] >> [bell] [3:19] >> Heat. Heat. [3:22] [music]
