Uh, it's my pleasure to be here tonight to introduce our student representative from William Tennant High School, Alexis Collie. Alexis will be the representative from the building who will be giving the board report this week or every month moving forward. So, thanks. >> Thank you. >> So, >> hello. My name is Alexis Calling, as you've heard. Um, I'm very excited to be meeting with you all tonight. Um, I am a senior at William Tennant and I have been elected president of student government. So, I will be giving the monthly student report. So, while school may have been out for the summer, our students were still working hard. As in June, two members of our speech and debate team traveled to Iowa for the National Speech and Debate Association national competition with both members placing very highly in their respective competitions. And in addition, over the summer, our boys 4x800 meter team competed at New Balance Nationals for track and field. Um, recently our school has also started Panther Partners, which is a way for William Tennant parents to support their children by getting more involved with the events and fundraisers at our school. And this is the first time ever that parents have been able to get this involved with their school and their kids. And since the beginning of the academic year, there have been numerous new teachers and guidance counselors. And so also new, we have implemented a digital hall pass system called Smartpass in which students can digitally sign in and out of the classroom as well as schedule meetings with other teachers and guidance counselors. And this app has just overall kept hallways emptier during class time and made hall passes simpler. Um, students have also received new Chromebooks and chargers, which has kept a longer battery life on these Chromebooks and kept the computers from dying within the classroom. Um, Canvas notifications have been sent out to students K through 12 about an annual AI training where students can learn more about the various abilities of AI within the classroom and it's just appropriate uses within classwork. And many, as many of you may have already heard, the senior class of 2026 has begun planning for our class Disney trip, which will occur at the end of this school year. On August 22nd, the seniors gathered to paint their parking spots. And this event brought personality and creativity to each of these painted parking spots and united all the friends and family that came to help out. Uh furthermore, uh a seniors kicked off the school with a senior sunrise where the entire class woke up early to watch the sunrise before the first day of school. And this event included yard games and breakfast as well as many lasting memories. Um within the music department, the William Tennant marching band performed on Fox 29 News for an Eagles Day pep rally to show their support before the first Eagles game of the football season. Uh in addition, fall sports has successfully kicked off with the boys and girls cross country teams winning first place at the Ivyland annual 5K with three runners placing in their age divisions. Uh boys soccer is also 3 and 0 with their seventh straight win against the Chelham soccer team. For upcoming events, back to school night is on September 18th from 7:00 to 9:00 where parents can come to meet their children's teachers and get a view into their kids' day. Student government signups are completed and we have over 400 people scheduled to come to our first meeting tomorrow. So, also the homecoming football game is on Friday, October 3rd at 7:00 p.m. and the homecoming dance is Saturday, October 4th. And Alexis actually provided and welcome, Alexis. But she provided a perfect segue into our first part of the superintendent's report. And that is the affformentioned presence of the William Tennant High School marching band at um an Eagles pep rally. And what an honor it was to go down. Fox 29 was there broadcasting live. and we just want to show you a clip of that festivity going on. And so, uh, if we could, I feel like I'm speaking up into the the sky or into the cloud, but, uh, let's roll the tape and check it out. >> I think our sound is muted. [Applause] So, I just want to say thank you to Mr. Nicholas Ciphford and everyone involved with our marching band and our students. They did a great job. They represented getting nervous there. We were just like bodies and no faces, but uh they did a wonderful wonderful job and um and glad to be there and and uh of course I I think it was the difference maker. I think they they absolutely gave the Eagles the push that they turned out they badly needed. So, if you had the if you had the Panthers marching band on your fantasy team, congratulations. Well done. >> It would be great if they had something to cheer about at our football games. >> So, well, give it give it time. Everything a work in progress. All All a work in progress. So, so thank you. And and and as Alexis mentioned and and across not just William Tennant, but across all of our schools, so many great things are going on. and the start of the school year has been um very very successful. Um as I mentioned in my weekend update to the community, we are continuing to work through some of the issues with our transportation department and some of the staffing issues that are contributing to that. But as I walk through our schools and visit classrooms and talk with teachers and talk with students and administrators and parent volunteers, uh there is a wonderful feeling in the air and a lot of excitement about the return to school. And I want to thank Mr. Sanchez Peralta for putting together the next video that we're going to show. And it is a back to school video that we filmed just capturing some of the excitement that's going on in our schools. And so sit back and enjoy the Centennial School District opening. [Music] I'm really looking forward to another wonderful year with our fantastic students here at Willowdale. I am most excited for a brand new fresh start. Just wanted to say that I'd look forward to having everyone spread kindness and not germs. Um, and looking forward to seeing all those smiling faces. They cannot wait to start and I was so happy to see them this morning. The thing that we're most excited for to do this year is meet new people. I'm excited to like see new teachers and get to know people. One thing I'm looking forward to is just getting really good grades this year. Things I'm looking forward to the most this year, number one, all of the learning that our students are going to do, and two, our viewing of See Her, Be Her on November 13th. We hope to see you there. This year I'm really looking forward to seeing all the growth in our Davis students. We have such a wonderful staff and community and uh seeing the little guys grow from our kindergarteners from where they are in the beginning of the school year to the end all the way up to our fifth graders getting ready for middle school. Uh the work we put in to support our kids is amazing and we appreciate our families support. Um so that's what I'm looking forward to this year. Good morning Davis. I live on County Line Road in Upper South. I'm a Clinger parent. Um, I'm here before you again tonight to ask for some discussion um and some transparency around your hiring processes and also to express concern about your proposed candidate for the position of assistant director of student services who was recently implicated in the abuse allegations at Central Bucks School District. Um, I understand that that investigation did not yet find any wrongdoing on her part, but I think that um, bringing her into Centennial will only serve to further erode any trust that you still have left with this community. Um, why take this risk? We're talking about a physical abuse and coverup scandal where all of the information has not yet come to light. Um, it's a pretty risky gamble when the well-being of our kids is at stake. Uh, again, further, this raises questions about the hiring process and the lack of transparency. So, I'm asking the board to have a discussion tonight that lets the community understand what that process is. I understand you can't discuss all personnel matters, but it would really help us to understand who and how résumés and interviews are being vetted and happening. Um, because right now the only logical conclusion many of us can draw is that Dr. Lucabaz bringing in his friends and former co-workers with little to no oversight from the board and this smacks of cronyism. Um you can also refer to the interim HR director who was recently hired um and to illustrate this point as well. Um so I'm just urging you to um reconsider this hire and have a full and open conversation about the hiring process tonight. Thank you. Thank you. Mark. >> All right, moving on to the consent agenda. And number two question I have is that when you look at these different people have pay for different number of days. And I was just curious what determines how many days you get your pay for. It's not uniform. Some are 52 1/2 days. Some are 54 days. Some are not to exceed 60 days or not to exceed 45 days. My questions I guess are just twofold. One, what's a policy to to extend these till for virtually for a year and number two, how come there's different configurations of number of days that the person is eligible to get with pay? >> Going to kick that two seats over to my left. >> Sure. Where um >> so Mr. Martin to to answer your question and not having um direct access to some of the specific information in some of these situations they are leaves that were approved from HR. They could be anything ranging from medical to FMLA and matters of that nature. There are also leaves at times for folks to pursue um advanced degrees and things of that nature. Um in terms of the specific changes in rates, I could get information for you and provide that to you. I I'm not sure I know exactly the specific questions or if there was a particular one in that you had in mind that you were looking at, but I can certainly gather that information and provide it to you and the board um at at a very um as soon as possible. If you if you could just find that out at some point, I would just appreciate to know what what determines how many days you get with pay and and number two, what determines the length of time and what what gives somebody that opportunity for a year instead of for a shorter period of time. >> That's my questions. Some of our teachers might not have been alive then either, but some of us were and remember that day very clearly. And my question is, are we doing something in all of our six schools in honor of that day to make sure that the students get some sense of the significance and what they that they meant to our country? And um maybe we could go back to everybody was together after 9/11. So maybe that would be helpful. But as long as we're doing something in each school, I would be very appreciative. Uh first of all, it is actually um a requirement in the state of Pennsylvania that that we acknowledge that day and and and that occurrence and we have discussed that and there will be statements read in moments of silence and memorations carried out in each of our six buildings in memoriam. >> Thank you. I want to thank uh McDonald Elementary School, the staff, Marie Ansenelli, she was amazing um helping us set it up. Dr. G and for everyone that opened up the building for us. It was so nice to see the community come out. And I did find out that by the end of the month that will be gone. So if you decide that you would like to make some form of a donation, bring over something, stop at Aldi and grab some spaghetti or don't get the spaghetti at Aldi because they have glass. You have to have it in plastic. So you can go to Giant if you like Giant. Um they like things in plastic, but anything that you could do and bring over there. I didn't realize that just the amount of people that are dependent on the food bank. So, anything that you can offer and again I want to thank the board members who showed up and and Dr. A for showing up >> going to say how many people were dispatched. >> Yes, it was I believe 60% um is that correct? 60% uh free and reduced lunch. So, anything that we can do to help out you know there are neighbors so anything you can do that would be great. Can I just add that um Pat had said that she has it delivered right to the school by Amazon. So that's if that's an easy way to do and help out that would be perfect. >> I say and I believe there was actually two other food pantries too. We have one in Warminster and then Chica's Focus I believe is in Upper Southampton. So there are actually three different min or three different food pantries in the Centennial School District that are open. So, I think I I know that we have a lot of vacancies and I can understand in some respects that the chart isn't It's on the website. >> Okay. So I think at this point someone can look into this and uh clarify it or amend it or adjust it or whatever. I've had people ask me how many people have applied for the vacancies. I don't know. I think it's important that we do somehow know. Um we could know things as a board member, but the public doesn't know. And uh I know that in the the grouping that we're going in, you're making large attempts to hire people and fill these vacancies. And I think it's important that the public is aware of it. No matter what vacancy that we've ever had, our school district has always run greatly and we've accomplished our goals. It's just at this point this year, we had more than we had expected. So, I think somewhat to the public, we need some sort of update of the amount of people that have applied for some of these positions. I'm I'm talking about cabinet positions and administrative positions and so let them know that it wasn't just three people applied, it was 250, whatever. So, if you could uh bring that information forward to the public, I think it would be very good and show that we have activity in a positive fashion in our school district. Okay. All right. So, consider coming out and giving your feedback on what you use, where you go, what you'd like to see, and help us continue to expand and improve our already lovely parks. Uh parks director, Jess Fox, does a fantastic job. The park staff works miracles on upkeep and maintenance. Uh they're very talented people. We have a great team, but this is the community's opportunity uh to join us and help us imagine the future of our shared spaces. So, thank you for that. I know there's there's a lot of overlap by people who are in the school district. We all love our parks and, you know, participate in those things and use them for different recreational things, sports, all of that. I don't see it listed, but they do an annual uh memorial event for the uh 9/11 celebration and a reading of all of the fellow firefighters, EMS, emergency services personnel, police officers that perished on that day. It's virtual as they all are because uh building administrators and principles attend and they can't get to the building after that quickly after school is let out. So, it's a virtual meeting. However, if anybody wants to participate, we do have a citizens policy committee which is an addendum to the administrative policy committee which gets input from the community. anybody that wants to be a member of that because we do have openings and we do like the input um because you do get to sit in on the policy meeting and and and hear what's going on and have input. Uh email Mrs. Roo, sorry to put that on your plate like like you don't do enough. Um go you can go through the administrative uh site and find her email and express an interest and we would love to have um more citizens involved in the policy process. 11.2 Bucks County Intermediate Unit. Mr. Godson is uh visiting his very sick mother in Denmark, so we'll have to skip that. Um PSBA report, Mrs. Crossen. Okay, so on the PSBA school leader bulletin, they had something I thought was interesting. In 2023, Pennsylvania joined only a handful of other states, including Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, and New Jersey in providing funding within the state budget for student teachers to rece to receive stipens during their clinical semester. Um, so I was going to go all into that and look into the state budget, but we have no money, no state budget. So, we're going to put that on hold until we get a state budget so we can see what's been given. I'm sure it's going to be good. >> Yeah, it's your heartline. >> All right. So, for the CF, Centennial Education Foundation, um it is the puzzle competition is open. If you go to centennialf.org, the website um down at the bottom of the uh events page, you will see information regarding the puzzle competition. Teams of three and four. I believe this year there are two separate categories. I think they have a a youth category and an adult category. It is $60 uh per team to register. Um there's also sponsorship opportunities and gift basket opportunities. So if you just reach out to the organization, they will more than accommodate and be welcoming um any donations at that point. They had uh quite a few teams last year and it really is there are some teams out there that put these puzzles together in 30 minutes or less. It is incredibly impressive. Um, apparently there's like a little group of individuals that kind of tours these events and they take pride in in really getting in there and and being competitive. But it is a fun time had by all. So that was all I have for the CE moving into legislative um council leaison. Um, you stole my thunder. We have no budget. Go figure. Um, we're still working on it. It's um every day is a different story. So there looked like there might have been some movement a couple days ago. Kind of fell flat on its face. Um there are some bills that are being introduced in both the House and the Senate side that are non-budget related and there was a packet introduced on the Senate side, but I don't think they went anywhere. I if I the last I had heard is they just kind of got stalled in the in the process. So, you know, the governor says that he's working on it. Hopefully, we'll have some movement in the next couple weeks. Um, come November, it will start to get really tight for school districts. Um, you know, it's in looking at our liquid asset funds. Right now, we are in the ballpark of about $45 million invested and we still have uh local tax revenue coming in, but we receive 40ome million dollars from the state. So come December, things are going to start to get tight and um you know and as I had mentioned in the last meeting that we are losing money. The state is gaining money by not distributing the funds. They're still collecting taxes, but we are losing money out on investment revenue, which is part of our budget. And it's a significant light item. And the more and more that we have to take out of savings that we cannot place short-term or that we have to pay our short-term expenses with that we would be receiving funds from the state to pay them with, the less money we have for investment. They brought on 10 new staff members over the summer, which for them is just a little less than third of the staff. So, that's pretty significant. When you have that big of a of an onboarding, it's a lot. And they did a great job. Things are running smoothly. Staff there did a great job. They have four staff members presenting at the National ACT Conference. Is it the National Conference of Technical Schools? Um, when you think it's nationwide and how big some technical schools are, for NBIT to have four presenters, that's very impressive. That means they're doing a really great job. It's a great school. At another conference, the NCLA CTE leaders best practices conference. We also have presenters there and uh the assistant administrator, Miss Lauren Doerty, is actually on a panel. So, again, when you think about what it takes on a nationwide level to be sitting on a panel, it's very impressive. So, uh, great staff at NBIT. The, uh, alumni association has just formed and is starting up for MBIT. Go to their website, mbit.org, and find out about the alumni association. They have a kickoff event October 8th from 5:30 to 8:30. Another more good news, the school CEO magazine um did a piece on NBIT uh featuring their rebranding which just took place over the last year. Um rebranding looks really cool and again when you think it's nationwide to to be uh picked out to have a an article written about you about about what you did for rebranding is pretty impressive. NBIT, if you're interested, is having an open house November 20th, 6 o'clock to 8:00 again on the website. And the MBIT Education Foundation is starting up. So, um, good news for students of NBIT.
