[0:00] The park in Blaine is a physical
[0:02] activity and recovery center that opened
[0:04] four months ago. Chris Schultz runs this
[0:08] facility that has exercise rooms, cardio
[0:12] equipment, weights,
[0:15] cold plunges,
[0:17] and saunas.
[0:19] >> Movement is everything. Exercise is
[0:21] everything. Schultz knows fitness and he
[0:24] also knows that many people start a new
[0:26] year with lofty exercise goals but
[0:29] quickly give up on their routine.
[0:32] >> The average person drops off at January
[0:35] 13th. So, it's quick. There's a quick
[0:37] window. The fad goes away and we let
[0:40] real life take over and it's unfortunate
[0:43] that we don't prioritize exercise as
[0:46] much as we should.
[0:48] Schultz has some simple tips for anyone
[0:51] that is trying to become more active.
[0:54] >> What I would say is just start small.
[0:56] You just got to build up to it. Um build
[0:59] up to where you want to end up. Almost
[1:01] set your goals up high and and kind of
[1:04] chip away at it. The important piece is
[1:06] that you're getting after it every
[1:08] single day. You're doing something every
[1:10] single day. um whether it's walking,
[1:14] running, lifting,
[1:17] >> cross trainining is something Schultz
[1:19] encourages. He believes in mixing up
[1:22] exercise routines to avoid getting into
[1:24] a rut and that being active should be
[1:28] something everyone focuses on. You know,
[1:30] if you can get to the point where
[1:32] exercise
[1:34] becomes that priority and you know that
[1:36] you're starting to take care of the most
[1:38] important person in your life and that
[1:40] is you, then you're on to something.
[1:43] >> For some, exercise is pure drudgery. The
[1:47] treadmill can be the dreadmill. But
[1:50] Schultz demonstrated a creative way to
[1:53] make this workout more user friendly.
[1:56] Once you've done this and you've gotten
[1:57] a buildup,
[2:00] then slow it way down and I want you to
[2:02] increase it all the way up or is pretty
[2:06] high up for an incline. Okay? You got to
[2:08] be very careful here. Hang on to the
[2:10] rails.
[2:12] And then I want you to go backwards.
[2:14] Okay?
[2:16] And what you're doing is you're building
[2:17] your quads and you're protecting your
[2:19] knees. And this is all about longevity.
[2:22] And you want to focus on protecting
[2:23] those muscles, keeping your muscles
[2:25] intact. And so by doing this, you're
[2:27] changing up your routine. You're giving
[2:29] yourself some routine to be consistent
[2:31] with. And then when you're all done,
[2:33] nice and easy handrails, go back. And I
[2:38] would stick with the incline just like
[2:40] you're going up a mountain in Blaine.
[2:43] I'm Eric Nelson, North Metro TV News.
