we'll close the public for and take a motion to uh approve the agenda motion to approve the agenda second motion to Second approve the agenda all in favor sign I by say night I all vote agenda is approved approve the meetings from the previous business meeting um meeting I cannot speak tonight approve the minutes of the previous meetings thank you motion to approve second we have motion second to approve the meeting the minutes for the previous meetings minutes and meetings are rolling together all favor I all right all opposed the meeting minutes are approved old business approve the copy lease with access systems we have Eric on uh line today that can of talk to us just a little bit about his company access systems um Eric I cannot remember how to pronounce your last name I want to say l but I don't know if that's right are you on there Eric I well I see you can't hear you hey guys can you hear me now yep perfect I had to unplug my headphones uh it's pronounced Luben long you sorry no you're good uh I wanted to say thank you guys uh I know this has been a long time coming uh to get this in front of you um but I wanted to introduce myself and feel any questions you guys may have about access this uh and what the business relationship looks like moving forward with us um so for starters uh we're an Iowa based company our home base is in wae Iowa uh and we've got 13 offices located across the state access is a little bit unique in that we are a board of region approved uh company uh we handle the print copy contracts for the University of Iowa for Iowa State and for un Andi uh and we work with probably close to 75 school districts across the state of Iowa so we're pretty well versed in how uh the school districts are using our equipment and uh terms and and service along with that um I've been working with Cameron and Mike and Lisa now for well Cameron and I started working on this about a year ago and started dialing in the needs for cerv school district uh some the changes coming up with the new building there um we are a multi-line dealer so right now I know you guys have Xerox copiers and printers uh we work with Rico sharp and Toshiba copiers and Lex Mark printers uh we're also an HP and pular so we do have HP as well uh the district is looking at a solution with sharp and Lex mark That's A solution that we have in a lot of districts across the state uh namely Centerville schools will get this uh Knoxville's got it I've got it at Central College uh and in pel schools I I could tick them all off um but if there are any concerns that be more than happy to field them or questions about how that Equipment Works uh that's a bit about me I guess I've been doing this for 12 years so I've got a little of experience and and pretty confident in the solution I'm put forward in front of you and that kind of speak to the path to get here I mean since we've a this a couple times kind of speak about that um as we were bouncing things back and forth the discovery that was made on our attorney side uh this last week is that uh really the challenges um that they were seeing in the contract for with the Wells Fargo company that does the leasing not with access and when they realized that it was the Well Fargo Leasing and then most of the protection truly happens through access for us that sort of dissolve concerns pretty quickly so understanding that business relationship was the biggest thing that uh was kind of a hang up for us getting into that and uh you know Eric has done a really nice if he provides as good a service on his copers as he did going through the lease I think we're going to be in really good hands motion to approve second we have a motion in a second to approve the uh um copy release I guess uh did anybody have any questions on it before we go and vote CU we do have a right to do that see none with the motion of second approve the C lease all in favor signified by saying I I I I all opposed all right you got a lease thanks for coming on Eric thank you guys I appreciate your time and looking forward to working with you thanks okay you want to say anything about that over there board members Pizza there you're for board member appreciation before it gets cold if you highly recommend grabing some as you see fit okay thank you Godly all right moving on to new business I just smell it and I know it's getting cold so yeah uh item a is presentation and approval of the memorandum of uh understanding between I and the district so we have Marcus Ling on with iack just to kind of talk to us a little bit about that program and kind of share some of the details so you can can know um what we're getting I will tell you the thing that's really neat is Marcus I think we've been talking to you since like September haven't we that's right yep and and for us our biggest challenge was trying to figure out how to fit this into the budget and a few weeks ago Marcus had sent an email and said hey I've got a new business coming to the state wants to support bringing a couple school districts on and cover in their cost for two years so uh we'd love to offer that to you and um free is my favorite word of the world so when he said that I was like I have to take this to my board right away I think it's a really cool program and I can't wait for him to get to share a little bit with you you want to take it away you're good to go Marcus perfect appreciate it well thanks everyone for for inviting me and allowing me to to take some of your time tonight um as as said my name is Marcus lenning and I'm our director of growth and Partnerships here at Iowa jobs for America's graduates also known as iag we are a nonprofit that's been around since 1999 helping students across the state of Iowa um just kind of in that employability uh professionalism um work based learning space up until post pandemic we were kind of the best kept secret now we've kind of blossomed into a bigger initiative um what we do is we work with school districts like yourselves by hiring an individual that we call an education specialist much like a teacher that are placed into your classroom and we run a four credit credit elective program so students that enroll an iag earn credit towards graduation when they're in high school and during Middle School it's set that just an elective credit um during their day so they sign up for like any other elective or part of their schedule uh they meet with us every single day and we work through what we call our seven essential constructs these are pieces like career Readiness work based learning uh self development character development um just really helping students prepare for the what's next After High School all of our students in our program have what we call an individual development plan so this aligns to our districts who have to work worry about icaps and decaps we do that as part of our model so it seamlessly with uh what you all are doing as part of you know chapter 12 and getting uh students that career career Readiness built into their their Journey with with you all uh we do it as part of our model as I said the other element that we bring is in that uh career exploration so we work with your community and your surrounding communities to bring the jobs to the classroom so when that student enrolls an iag takes part of iag we uh work with them in their individual development plan to really understand what is it that you want to do and then we go find those employers or those opportunities to help get the student connected to that thing so whether it's a postsecondary in a two or four year institution it's an apprenticeship or internship with an job that they are interested in or just helping them move into full-time employment every student's journey is a little bit different and so that's where that individual development plan comes into play we're a non-traditional classroom where you're going to see us do Project based learning as our modality of instruction so you're not going to find an iag textbook out on Barnes & Noble or Amazon it is purely we we provide a a Project based learning unit library to our education Specialists where if they come in they say Okay I want to learn uh I want to teach my kids about financial literacy and then they're going to have three or four different pbl units that they can choose from we believe in what we call student voice and choice so every Community every school district is going to be a little bit different in terms of what the students need uh want and benefit from so we just want to provide as many resources to our education Specialists to say okay here's what my students are interested in how do I line this to a Project based learning unit um and then go serve my students and so uh with that we're in uh over um 60 districts across the state so we truly are a Statewide entity we have 164 programs so when I say program that means Middle School um or high school so that's what uh we brought to the table is we could say we said there's definitely a need for the high school space in Centerville but we also have the opport to pitch the the middle school and uh complete what we call system of support So if you think about that Junior and senior that that's on their way out imagine if that Junior and senior had wraparound support starting in middle school where they're exploring those careers they're figuring out do you know do I like to work with my hands do I like working with um children healthc care and then once they enter into the high school space they're able to kind of narrow that search down a little bit to say I want to be in healthcare so now I'm connected to Hills and I know exactly which classes I should take to get onto that Journey or which certifications or authorizations I can accomplish while I'm in high school if we start that journey early we can accomplish a lot more things um as we get into the high school space GNA pause it's a lot of information in four minutes any initial questions that I can answer first of all go ahead well I would you know read through this before it just such an exciting program I just wonder about your educational Specialists what kind of education do they have and how are they perfect great question so all of our education Specialists because we work with the Boe to make sure that we can give that credit towards graduation they have to have a four-year degree and then we look for relative experience so they'll either be somebody that's worked in the school system maybe as a perah or a sub or a you know some some other um additional duty that you have they could be somebody that worked in human services um Family Services something in that background that's going to align to our students in in our programming so we're not necessarily just pulling somebody off the street uh we work with the district in finding the individual so you all are at the table during the hiring process so This truly is a partnership and a relationship so we both feel good about who's that adult coming into the classroom um and into the district so it it truly is a joint venture we then put them through our own training so everybody before they step it foot into the classroom goes through 80 hours of training so about three roughly three week weeks worth of of training for us and along with an additional 60 hours of ongoing professional development every year and on top of that we encourage them to get involved with any school training so any new higher training that the school provides they're included in all your professional development days that you have during the year um because we want them to be seen as an employee of the district I can see that you know some of the they won't the students going into huh can't get the shower to drain the water yeah I tried to push it push I muted him I can see some of these students will be going into uh you know maybe Plumbing or electrical and all that so these Specialists you you know they don't have to haul that training but they have to be AA get that training available for those students is that correct correct yep so so they're kind of that connector they're the resource that's going to say okay I have five students that are interested in plumbing an HVAC who's that external resource that I need to get them connected to and then it's the same so that's the beauty of our program is every because of every single student having that individual development plan we at all points in time know exactly what those students are interested in and where we need to get get them connected to so we're going to leverage your resources like your Indian Hills that maybe has a plumbing um you know trades school that maybe is accessible to students and getting those students signed up um with some of our students we help with FASA we help with scholarships so it's truly when that student that student makes that commitment to what's next we're there along the way this isn't to replace your counselors or anybody that you already have an existing um it's to suppl so you know they have a hard enough job um trying to keep up with you know the hundreds of students that are in the building we want to say hey let's take some of that help uh let's take some of that burden off of you and be a support piece and as as was spoken earlier for for you all at no cost for for two years this hopefully allows us to um build our presence show you all as that return on investment um should it come and then we look at usually it'll be in year two we're going to come back to to the table with you all and say okay how are we doing um do we look at this as a sustainable piece and then if you there is that piece where it's working but yet uh budget is is a challenge still hopefully we find an employer partner another employer partner that maybe can do more than um year three so we always want to you know if if it's working continue to make sure it's working because we don't want to pull that support from the students so is there specific employer that's funding the other half of this for us yes yep so the the employer that is um going to be working on this one is Wellmark foundation so well Mark's uh here out of De Moine they have an initiative right now around healthy healthy initiatives and um communities and making Community stronger and so um when we provided them with a list of conversations that we were having Centerville was one of the the districts that they identified that they wanted to help so you're getting that directly from a larger institution that that's ultimately caring about you all and your community so could you provide that contact information to Mr Taylor I'd like to know just saying thank you for doing this for the district absolutely thank you okay any other questions for and I I think you know as we've kind of looked at long range thinking I think by two years from now it should be a lot easier to be able to to build this in to our budget even if we didn't find another educational partner and my hope um from what Marcus and I even talked about even more today because I called him like hey what about this or what about that and he's like Johnny on the spot with the aners um just thinking it could become a really integral part of what we're doing um you know we've added the gear up in the last year or the additional Gear Up we've added the college career transition coordinator with Indian Hills and I think this is kind of that next step that actually really can help us put kids in workplaces and getting learning from that so I think that has a lot of potential for us um as we move forward what would what would the middle school I guess what would it look like from say you start with seven they in seventh grade and say it continues what is the process of helping them how's that I mean obviously the stuff you listed but could you kind of guide us through that a little bit real quick yeah yeah no great question we we actually talked about this uh this today so um we talked about every seventh grader and eighth grader this year going through iag in what we would call like an iag light so every single student getting exposure to workplace uh work workplace Readiness what is a job what is a resume what are you interested in building that profile for that student to have that individual development plan and then in year two then then it becomes when they become eighth graders we're saying all right who had fun who liked what they were doing who needs uh to take that additional year and we follow that student those eighth graders then follow into the ninth grade program uh but really it's it's truly about getting them again that exposure so we are really drilling into the student to say here's what a job is here are the skills that it takes to be their job and what do you like so we understand that a seventh and eighth grader isn't going to choose their forever uh profession or even their first profession in seventh grade but we want to get them excited about having a job and what does it take to be Financial financially responsible so if they do things like babysit mol Lawns um work at you know as a lifeguard or something along those lines those first entry level jobs we're honing in on those skills what do you need to be able to do that can you communicate can you um Bey on time can you you know do you have conflict resolution for when you butt heads with a coworker what are those first skills that you need to enter into the workforce and then what are those first jobs so obviously you know talking to seventh and eighth graders isn't going to be about becoming a doctor or if they say hey I want to be a you know a professional athlete great that's great what are some other choices that you might have in terms in Plan B just in case that doesn't work out so it's just again it's it's we call it introductory uh conversations and it's the same with those employers we're still bringing in those employers to help help be mentors to kind of talk to those middle schoolers about you know what is it what are those basic skills that they're going to need to succeed in the workplace and and you like Marcus talked about so year one because none of our students will have experienced that kind of iag like curriculum that he's talking about where we're exploring a variety of professions we would need to get both the seventh and eighth graders through it have those eighth graders ready to continue the high school program but then following that the seventh graders would follow that iag light where it would be more of an elective for the eighth graders so like during a power hour or a guided studies time where there' be some who would be pulled out to go into that program and kind of learn more there and maybe that could be on a rotational basis I think we're going to kind of um Marcus shared a name of a gal who runs the middle school program for them and uh we're going to talk a little bit more later in the week to try to pin down exactly kind of how we function in year two um so we know better what that looks like but definitely something where the seventh graders every year would continue to get that look at all the different career Fields piece and hopefully we're kind of sparking that so that when we have conversations with an eighth grader we can say you know you're developing this skill to be able to work and this is something that will impact you in the workplace how do you think you might want to act for that gives us another piece to tie Behavior to um which I think would be really good at that age it'll give them a better foundation for that IAP Decap plan that I explained at our last four meeting this will be a great integral part of how we can do that and it's another set of hands to help us make sure kids are really getting that individualized plan as we move forward so I think it'll be a really great thing and just kind of also um bring out what Mrs Mitchell has been doing in e8th grade but this is just like another hey let's look at this a different way do you all do concurrent with Indian Hills at all yes yeah so that's another element of what we can bring so all of our education Specialists um if you have already a partnership with Indian Hills so we in De Mo are partner are piloting with dmac with concurrent enrollment with through iag because of our classes covering that work-based learning component um we can award work-based learning credit to I students as well so that would be your Juniors and seniors um and we're we're actually thinking about dipping down into the nth grade so if you think about a nth grader getting that workbase learning 100 credit Junior and senior get that work-based learning 150 that this I'm speaking dmac term I don't know if it it'll be the same it's Indian Hills and then their uh work-based learning actual so for dmac it's one work based learning 150 that actual time on the job site all of those things can happen through iag so if you think about you know concurrent enrollment and getting some of those dollars back to the district we can be an Avenue for for some of that as well which also gives us another opportunity we're really working to reduce the number of study halls for kids uh at the high school level forward and I think this gives us another set of really good electives that might interest kids to be a part of for that pretty sweet deal any other questions okay having listened to the presentation and and read the M and the board pack is there a motion to approve second motion a second to approve the uhou with i for Iowa jobs for America graduates all in favor signify mer I all opposed technically two one for Middle School one for high school is that that okay all right so motion is approved Marcus thank you very much for being with us tonight and team who put this together for us we look forward to yep look forward to partnering thanks everyone thank you Marcus have a good night you too okay do we have change order s we do not we received an update from Michelle today she got initial pricing uh back from by state she's working on couple items where she thinks maybe it should be just a tiny bit lower in a couple places so they're going to bounce that back a little bit and get it to us in time for our Jun meeting all right so we are going to have yet another opportunity for old business we get to have old business which you love old business is approval of the lake view playground rubber surfacing project so this is super exciting actually um so we didn't think that we probably would be able to afford the rubber surfacing um I talked to the PTO and they said well if we could raise the funds to put it in would you be willing to put it in the long range maintenance plan to be able to do a replacement every 15 years of the service and uh and I said yeah I mean we just got to be able to raise the funds and even after raising 100 whatever some thousand that was they were able to raise the additional 30 some th000 to put the rubber surfacing in and they're ready to make a payment to us so it can be installed this summer along with a new playground and that keeps us on par with any of the best playgrounds actually ahead of schedule for any of the best playgrounds in the area um super excited about honestly if I ever need to raise funds I know a group of people I'm going to call to ask for for advice I looked at the drun that you old head on it made me want to be a kid again it's a really good set up show adults going down the slides and stuff I we should do that yeah I think so that' be good so any questions on the any any questions on the surfacing project motion to approve second we have a motion a second to approve the um Lake View playground Serv project all in favor signifi to say n all oppos thank you very much for that's a do that for us okay approve establishing potential special meeting date all right so there are some big pieces of uh work to be done here at the end of May uh after the state legislature's uh extra time to figure out what they're going to do with TSS and the teacher salary Bill uh we still need to finish up negotiations and be able to approve um a potential settlement um should that come to us and um we probably will have some last minute change orders on high school including the one that we were expecting to have tonight so I would propose that we consider adding a special meeting uh near the end of the month so that we have a touch point before June 13th to be able to come together and we can always cancel it if we don't have business but just to get it on the calendar um so that people can can have that uh available and I'm thinking it would be wise to look at something uh maybe the week of the 20 well it be Tuesday the 28th through Friday the 31st because that gives me the best chance to have all those pieces of information pulling together for you um but I didn't know if y'all would have the availability for that I'm only available 28 28 would anybody else be available at 28 fible so 28 okay thank you appreciate it 530 yeah 5:30 unless you guys want to do a different time I'm flexible on that too that be a lot more Mountain Dew to pull that off okay all right so do we it says approved we need to vote on that you know need to it does say approved yeah so I can I have a motion to make a special meeting on the 28th please pleas second have motion second to have set a special meeting for the 28th of May at 5:30 all fa say I allos hey thank you I think that'll help us stay on track on things item e approved resolution sale of surplus property resolution to go along with what we did our um public hearing there allows us to have our sale approve thank you second we have a motion a second to approve the resolution for the Surplus sale roll call please Berger yes Carter yes cine yes Johnson yes Mo yes Thomas he's m oh yeah that's right is he still muted mhm you there Mike I can ask you there all right let's move on okay risus yes okay the uh resolution for the proposed are for the sales Surplus properties is approved thank you we'll get advertisement out about that publicly too so we can get people there for that next item is also R called approve and certify the 24 FY budget amendment motion second approve the FY 24 budg Amendment roll call please berer yes Carter yes SE yes Johnson yes yes Thomas yes lisus yes the f24 budg is approved item F approve the list of graduating seniors and the final requirement why some great question I don't think I'm not sure that they probably meant to do that that might have been for their their own reasons second approve the graduating seniors pending all requirements being met for graduation all in favor signify by saying I I I I'll oppose thank you you know I should have asked the question before but does this include the ones that graduated at semester where they've already graduated we' already put them through they're already yeah I guess that's true okay so this is just the ones now now thank you approve the item G approve the 22425 teacher leadership positions we had a few open spots that we fill you do you have anything you want to share on this one NOP they all me the requirements by the committee Mr Mo tell me he needs to obain to this conflict of interest motion approve thank you we have a motion a second to approve the 2425 teacher leadership positions all in favor signify by saying I I I those positions are approved Aaron roval of the summer project bits um I've got a few additional here uh the first estimate is from uh today's classroom it's for some wall packs um they for their cafeteria tables for Howard we're moving the new kitchen into the old gymnasium and because that gymnasium gets rented out a lot by YMCA we wanted a way to lock up our tables that way they're not being used improperly um and if they have a game in there they can be put up away this is basically cafeteria tables that will roll up similar to a Murphy bed and they'll walk into place into a mount that's mounted on the wall um each this is three sets of tables and each table's a triple triple depth um totally the three sets of tables will sit 128 kids which will be perfect for the um amount of lunches they have currently um had this type of in my elementary school cafeteria just bringing back great fun memories of Elementary L it I was thinking I was enough to say [Music] write that down I got to speechless no I'm just being for those who in here he made an age joke about me so do we have a motion in a second so could you explain I guess what some of the rest of like there's the the next one's for Dan C sorry uh yes the next proposal um is for um is with Dano and Superior this is about a few months ago we noticed some of the side goals at uh Lake View gym um right now they're all four goals are operated by two winches which is a bad setup one of the winches has died on us so we haven't been able to use two of them um this is basically rewiring it all putting a winch on every single basket so they will last longer and be more effective and then this is actually moving the windshield is over the mesoline that way we'll be able to access them and service them easier right now they're over the gym floor which we can't get a lift down onto just makes things very difficult um this is just to get those fixed and ready for next year um and then the fourth bid this is something I'm I'm replacing on my long range plan we were planning to do a um another HVAC VAV replacement in the science Ling but recently we had two compressors in our Chiller for the tech wi and Auditorium um two compressors go bad on there um some of the freon is we think some of the freon's contaminated inside of it but this is just to get those replaced and to U do the testing on the freon what do you think the fr's contaminated sometimes if you get a hole in it that system's been not greatest not the greatest system there is a filter on it but there is this system has not been the greatest system system since put in the company that installed it killed a compressor at startup and then ever since then two of the compressors we've had trouble with now two of them finally gone bad again okay um usually you the uh um Freon can get can get contaminated by just a hole in the line which we've had that charged and refilled several times but no one's ever been able to find a hole there's one somewhere so in this where hope to find that Retreat the freon and get it recharged back up and get it back up into working order okay motion to approve summer project bids as presented second we have motion of second to approve the summer uh project bids all fa signify by saying I thanks I need to do a a little delay for mic there um all oppos they are approved and am I approve the social State cor on purchase there's quite a few items and these are all chronic licenses is that what I take uh so yeah we went through um when I say we I had a team of teachers uh each representative of a grade level at lak view uh the teachers who teach uh social studies history Civics Inon so all those um 612 also were a part of this committee um we've been working on this for several months um what we did is we looked at three or four different companies um and what kind of came out of that we had a rubric that we used um you know to vet them to make sure they covered our standards um had good inquiry based uh learning um platforms and things and so uh that has led us to McGraw Hill as a K12 system which is always an exciting thing for a curriculum director when they all choose the same one uh cuz that usually doesn't happen so that was exciting but what we're getting is we are getting electronic lers for every student in the district for their social studies uh curriculum depending on which one they are in but they were also getting um K12 or K12 sorry K5 is getting um some workbooks um some actual books um there's a whole system that comes with it um so fortunately we're getting all of that as well for six years um at the 612 level we're getting a classroom set of every social studies book um so that students can use in the classroom and then they'll have access to that online as well but we felt it was really important to also have the book piece of it um because not having any social stes curriculum that we have purchased and I can't tell you how long a long time right Mrs he 1990 yeah so um we have not purchased uh curriculum we've kind of supplemented with different things um third grade is still using the books that I think I used when I was in third grade so I'm really excited about this um Lis and I've worked on the money and are able to do that um and so this is a six-year contract so we will pay this amount and we will get everything for six years um textbooks obviously will just get the one copy um but we did order 30 I believe of each of the textbooks and most of our classes don't go over 24 in each room so that way they have a few extra um but it it all meets the standards um there is some talk about revision of standards in the state but these are based on National social study standards so if that would change which will take a two to threee process um we feel like confident that these will still be okay and we may have to supplement with something but that happens all the time with standards math new math standards came out this year so we're going to have to look at that a little bit but it happens all the time so I'm not worried about that our teachers are really excited about this um there's some really great online resources that go with Google classroom but they also will have the textbooks and paper resources too so I think it's a good mixture so you'll have the textbook at the elementary level as well yeah it's like a bundle and so it's it's I don't know if it's a true hard textbook um but it there's actually one out there we can look at but it's a it's kind of like the write and reader like it will be every year that those kids it's color it's super engaging the kid the teachers were really excited about it so and from everything we've seen um this series complies with the new law that were put in for social studies and those last session and aligns with all that so we're good on that and and that's why we felt like we were safe to do the sixth year it was like a 33% savings or something to do six year I it was it was minimal is what we felt to go ahead and do the sixth year um because it wasn't that much cheaper so we were getting a much better pricing to go the six years um so that's exciting this is the same comp the other thing about the elementary this is the same comp that we currently have our reading uh with and it intertwines which is a lot of elementary teachers dreams cuz it's a hard thing to put in so um like I said we looked at several companies and this is the one that kind of won out there was one that the elementary kind of liked very much um but the cost was extremely high for it and they were like no this works really great for us they're just excited to have something all of our teachers because they've been pulling it together a long time by themselves so they should sh say but not shave won't shave our teachers will save our teachers a lot of time Y and it will be better curriculum for our kids to have as well okay any questions on this okay motion approve second well it's a presentation it doesn't see approv it do it says approved presentation is the special ed I'm sorry we have a motion for second all favor signify by saying I all opposed and we will order and get this um after July 1 but it will be in place for this for the following school year for 2425 so I'm really excited highlight Let me refresh my memory what is our math curriculum called it's uh I am what a lot of people but it's called illustrative mathematics and what addition do we want um it's not an addition we use uh uh Kindle Hunt is what we're currently using at the elementary uh Middle School each teacher cuz so it's a it's a national Pro program um and there's lots of people that have the same curriculum they just present it differently McGrath Hills who uh the high school is currently using as their um workbooks or whatever okay thank you yep okay sorry so that motion has been approved now we can have just the presentation of the special education Del system um yeah and this is in your packet and it's also available online uh Cameron put it up in the um public no public notice section of our um uh website so I'm not going to present because I don't I want to don't want to take a whole lot of time I just wanted you uh as a board to understand and that every 5 years um the district has to look at their special education delivery plan this is how we model our services um for students with an um and we went through we had you can see on that first page there who the committee was you have to include parents um I invited about 15 parents um and uh there has to be a teacher from every represented uh every building principles um myself and then Alan schy our regional director from the AA um also is who leads this um so we went through we met twice um we met uh April 9th and the 25th and I'm going to add determined plan sorry I missed that piece when I was looking through things but um then we go through each of these questions and these questions are set by the state this is basically the template that the state gives you and you input what you do as your District because districts do have a little choice in some of this but some of it is also governed by laws and code and things like that but um one of the big changes that the teachers and parents felt uh was important was the structure of it um and that's where you'll see under the question to there um like the responsibilities of the teachers um whether it's the Gen teacher or the special education teacher and we just kind of formatted that different that was really important to them so it was easier for them to see and I also think it makes it more friendly to understand hey if I have a question about this as a parent who should I call should I call their special education teacher should I call their general education teacher um we also included that Continuum there at the top um to kind of show you the least restrictive to the most intensive setting um and then we kind of talk about those as they go through the system here um so if we go to question three um with question two continues for a long time and it's just all those different settings that you have whether it's a consult um cons I cannot talk either Kevin um consultation or if it's collaboration and really what those are is just the different types of services so for a student receives um services from the AA for hearing speech um Vision any of those things that we don't serve in house um that's usually what's considered a consultation collaboration is where a student is um getting like co- teing or um teachers are going into the classroom or sometimes we just have a consult Service uh collaboration service where a teacher like if we're pulling some Services back from a child and they may not get pulled out completely um it can be smaller group instruction as well direct instruction is probably what you know the most about um because that's kind of what our main settings are in special education where students uh leave their classroom and um are pulled into a small group with a special ed teacher that's how we've made some of our great progress with the Wilson work you've heard about and um numerous project is what we're using currently for math uh and that's what most typical it looks like espe especially those early Learners because then there's not the distraction of the classroom um and so there's just a lot of information here and I can go through and read it all to you but I feel like you you will the thing that I wanted to bring to your attention is just that this plan does happen every five years and that um you know we didn't make hardly any changes to what was said in the plan just the structure of how it looked so it was more organized and a little bit better to understand what the responsibilities of the teacher were um the one planned part that did change is um if you go to question four which is on page eight um I guess question three kind of too but uh just how we determine how many students are on the case load and that there is a formula for that it used to be 100 points there's a lot of adding and subtracting and um it was very so we did change that to um case load points determined 25 points which is a pretty normal Point um equivalency um that other districts are using to and it is based on the aa's level of a student so when we put an IEP into the system the AA levels it they're level one two or three student depending on their needs their amount of minutes their accommodations things like that so it's an outside person determining that because what we found with the last one that we currently had with a rubric was it's kind of how you interpret the rubric where that is the same person always doing it um and so we we decided to change our plan to that when I looked at our rosters um and did it by level versus the point system they kind of came out to be the exact same this is just a little bit easier and it's pretty um objective not subjective by person so I like that and that allows the teacher and the administrator in the building to really look at their case load and truly have a better understanding of what they've got on the plate um and then Julie are we moving away from the term least restrictive and going to this least intensive is that what it just kind of depends on who you talk to but yeah they kind of so yeah um just it just I think helps intensive makes people understand restrictive just seems so restrictive right I mean um it seems negative yes and so intense intensity you know you can kind of see by how you know that word I just didn't know if it was a shift in teral we're calling it this Ida still refers to it as least restrictive so more often than not when you're talking I language you're going to have to say least restrictive but I think the goal that this committee had and I didn't get to sit in for the whole of both meetings but what I heard largely from the teachers that were involved was the goal was to really try to put this to change the language to make it easier for somebody who's not an educational professional to understand I think they they were right on with that least intensive thing being the good direction to go for that so I I'm really happy with what the the product is um I think it'll it served our teachers were the ones who really drove the um the content um and agreeing disagreeing things like that we had some really good conversations um and so if if there's anyone um that wants to comment it is on the website they can look at the whole plan um it will always be on our website we have to keep it posted there and then um if they have comments they can call or email me and we will look at them if they're are no comments I'll bring it back to the board to approve at a later date um it's that's just part of the process is 20 days of comments so do you hear if anybody if they comment to you please please share let me know what they think um one of the other things that we uh will probably add to this plan um there was a there's a lot of terminology with special education um with lots of acrms as you all know um so one of the things and I apologize it didn't get into tonight but is a list of acronyms that go with special educ um as an just anend adment um to it to just let parents know hey they said this in this meeting what does it mean or um you know we hear lots of terms so I think that would be helpful as well as you all know you like to know what those acents mean so I think that will be helpful um it's it's from the state but I'll just add it to this document um to help with that any questions um like I said I could go through lots of different things but it that's just kind of the overview and what was happened in the last couple of months to get it ready to go any questions on the presentation that does not need be approved you know I approve all right thank you julan thank you for all that you do uh approval of the audit did okay so um I sent out 27 requ for proposals to 27 different firms including the state auditor I received five letters back saying that they weren't taking any any new clients and then one proposal for services and then no other U communication so the one proposal was from our current auditor Corman and Johnson so obviously my recommendation is that we accept their proposal that's our current auditor what happens when they retire um I don't know we beg somebody needs to take get out there and become a school aitor right okay there you go newly newly minted accountant can go into auditing and probably pick up a huge case Lo any questions on the uh recommendation for the one out of 27 that responded it's a lot of Rejection it it is so this is but this is the I think when we first came on to board members this is who we were using previously right um we switch we switch to out of the okay we were with from from we so we've been with them yeah cille has been with them for years previously and a lot of people we work with didn't seem like they were anywhere near any retirement I'd say no and I approve motion second approve the audit or bid all in favor signify by saying I I thank you all opposed we have an auditor all right approval of the support sou salary changes we're adding the line in here yeah uh as we kind of obviously we had a pretty big change over in the business office with um our um with Lynette leaving um so we went out to look at what comparable uh rates in the area were so we could try to recruit some people in that could could do an effective job for us and determine that we're pretty far behind on those type of positions um surprisingly closer in other positions than we had thought but um pretty far off in in the business office area um so we're proposing adding this line uh so that we can actually we have kind of split some duties uh and used some different funding sources to be able to have uh two people cover uh Lynette's role um without a major hit to the general fund um and to keep us in line with doing all the various reporting and um all that fun stuff that we need to do anything that I missed there um just that food service isn't you know involved in that now or it was wasn't previous right so so that's one of the funing source pieces that helped us out food service cuz that is a very healthy fun and there's some limited things that you can do with that this one of them motion second thank you for you two being so diligent to motion they don't have to the full V have the motion in a second to support salary staff schedule changes oh in favor signify by saying I all opposed thank you all right approval the motion passes so approve the insurance board benefit changes so so uh we are looking to each of the next two years add $25 to the monthly board benefit so to go to 630 per month next year uh and 655 the 25 26 school year um and also we're looking to create a scenario in which current employees who are opted out of insurance can still receive the 28 28750 board benefit per month for their opt out as long as they continue to qualify for an opt out uh they don't take insurance and they don't leave the district so new employees coming on uh would not qualify for the opt out benefit they could if they had a qualifying opt out still opt out of taking the benefit taking the insurance if they have a qualifying benefit um but uh would not receive the Tor 28750 so this slowly phases in some more people over time and allows us to have a little bit more time to predict how many people will add on because the increase of $25 per month uh to the district could range anywhere from $60,000 up to I think it was what 120 or something in that range depending on how many people who are current op outs decide to go on the full benefit at that point um so this gives us the the chance to phase that in a little bit slower and uh and hopefully have a little bit of control on the fund we do believe that we've got it uh not only in our budget but we think this is something we really need to do to try to get more competitive uh with insurance benefits it's probably not enough down the road but it's what we think we're able to do right now um and obviously if things would improve financially with what we get in the state or something we maybe want to come back and ask for ask for further increases because I think now that we've sort of stabilized salaries around the state for a handful of people at the beginning and a handful of people at year 13 um we need to catch up in this area to be able to um to compete um for recruting we have a motion do I have any any questions have a motion gu go ahead maybe I don't I think I understand it but opt out means their spouse has insurance and typically it would be that or like we have um or cheaper for them Insurance in some cases it has to be employer provided insurance so it can't be like um you know I went to the marketplace specifically it can't be going to the marketplace uh um the uh what do you call an Affordable Care Act Marketplace um but it can't be practically obtained Insurance it has to be employer provided to qualifi for the standard a parent employer insurance or a spouse we do have some staff that are under that age where their parents insurance would qualify them to okay if they're under 26 yeah yeah so they okay yeah so is this common in public sector to get a portion of essentially in cash if you don't take the employer offera insurance I gu that's where I'm kind of struggling we uh wel to the struggle yeah yeah that's uh we have seen some that have it but you know I couldn't say what percentage of people out there like we didn't survey that in other districts um yeah to me it's a benefit not no we're not taking Insurance away from anybody but I'm just you take the benefit or you don't you know if I don't take it at work I'm not getting anything extra so I guess to me I'd like to see a little bit more of a concrete sunset on that versus just a a blanket is that contraction anymore we didn't find anything that said it was um to be honest with you it really was about cost control for us um because the full 120,000 could put us in a bit of a buy next year um um but maybe some of those people who opt out could still opt out under that I'm just not sure so if somebody has like if somebody has their insurance to the VA they can KN out then right right um so what's the employee contribution for insurance depends on what plan they take yeah um for for example if you take a family plan you're still putting in you know $1,400 a month towards your family insurance so it's still quite pricey you know it's amazing to think about when I first started teaching and I can't remember how many years that was just part of your salary salary wasn't much you had insurance what about you Carol was too long ago oh too long ago they a lot longer for me and I well I just know that every year it was more you it was more more well I I was kind of on the other side of things uh well I guess about well nine years ago now where I was on the team negotiating for do we do we put more money on insurance or do we back when we could negotiate that do we ask for more money on insurance or do we ask for money on the base salary and at the time uh it made sense sense for us to ask for that money to be put on base salary which is why we had one of the highest base salaries um in the AA uh the last couple years and why we'll have hopefully some of the least salary compaction of districts in our area um after we get through negotiations and everything and deal with this new TSS puzzle that the state has handed to to the two sides um but as a result we we didn't keep up as a district over those years on the insurance benefit to try to keep up with Rising costs um and some districts maybe had that had chosen to keep up on the insurance and not on the salary well they fell behind in that area they kind of won the lottery when the state said we'll we'll try to get you up to the 475 and then 50 and the 60 and 625 um we didn't quite win the lottery so now you can just negotiate salary you can't negotiate some shes that changed what that Chang been a bit Yeah so and that's part of trying to get this out ahead of that um because we want to we want to be in good faith we want to make sure that they have all the information going into it as well um instead of holding something close to our vest and being sneaky I'd rather be open and honest any other questions on the uh uh um insurance benefit none can we have a motion a second to approve motion to approve second we have motion to Second approve the board benefit change all in favor signify by saying I I I all opposed thank you all right there's a conflict dat for the board retreat so we need to approve a new date I really appreciate you guys I was thinking the exact same thing oh my gosh I sent some dat I sent some dates to Trent to check out um and I just wanted to check these dates with all of you and verify if any of them work for this group so would July 2nd work for anybody in this group what day we is that uh thank you I don't think I be able to make that not sure I know I'm going to be G the 4th of July be gone for a couple weeks and I don't exactly know have check out I'm probably no good for the second of ju good for the second else Miss how about the 12th which is a Friday which I know everybody wants to hang out with me on Friday I'm I want that one fair enough I'm going that one okay that's pretty universally on July 22nd I can that work okay if everybody else can that's a Monday could be here might be a little tiation I'll put a question well I can make it uh July and July 26th which is right I kind of assumed that was unlikely but okay so let me see if July 22nd works for Trent and his team if not I may give back to you re email to set that try to find something that works in there thank you for giving that to with my ad team I think uh uh Denise shar's given that presentation to us is going to be huge I guess table could we table moreal business okay uh oh super net update on districtwide safety drill yeah hey I just wanted to share uh we had our safety drill last Friday uh I actually had asked the principles to announce at PD on Monday that the safe will be sometime this week and then waited as long in the week as possible to keep everybody as alert and excited about it as possible for the whole week uh and then I think 10:00 uh we did no 10:30 we did CHS and then we went and did after lunch Howard and Lake View um successful drills um we allowed this time not just a lock down but a try to get out to a rally Point uh we had many classes that were able based on the information they received over the intercom to get out to that Rally Point um this is something that we're going to continue to practice on uh this summer as you know our new cameras are coming in so some of them are operational some of them aren't operational we're working to get them all up and up and running um when I had run these drills in in Burlington with the same camera system there was a certain uh view that I could put up on my big screen and I could follow somebody through every one the hallways while I was on the intercom and saying the person's in this area they look like this this is who you're watching out for here's where you don't want to be right now things like that so we're going to practice that cold with our principles this summer after the camera's run on the new server um so that they're ready to use that fully for the next drill uh which then gives that information people were really happy to hear those intercom at least the ones that I talk to to hear those intercom pieces on this drill because they really felt like that gave them the chance they said like okay he's down by the gym so I know I've got time to get my kids out this door here and we're in good shape so we're going to work to improve some of that as we go um with the training with the drills are we still following Al's principles so I mean we don't say Alice but it's a lot of the same ideas same yeah it's yes okay basically what happened was Alice redid restructured their corporation and wanted everybody to PID a lot of lot of money so it's the same principles is just on okay I'm going to admit though as we talked as I talked to principles we ended up using a lot of the words so um wanted to make sure I added a couple other things we our little emergency radio buttons that we got uh right before the governor's safety grant money and these contact PD directly on these radios uh I think it's Dispatch they contact actually but um we found that the location for some of those buttons wasn't ideal in this setting as we kind of were more live with this one and trying to do a little bit more get around the building um we talked uh about moving those those buttons out to different places so it's easier for the secretary principal to access should something big happen so we're going to do a little rework with that the good news is it doesn't require a lot of extra wiring because they just plug in and we're good to go so that's not a not a hard change but it's a good change that I think it's going to make it you know they say what it save some seconds to save lives or something on that effect so this could do that for us um we also found a couple locking mechanisms that we just felt were kind of easy to panic with a little bit um so we're kind of looking at things that we might be able to do to improve some of those um just to see you know you get some weird doors like like uh for larger rooms that maybe have a a panic uh push bar so what we can do to kind of provide something for that that still is in line with the fire code so just kind of looking for some items with that um and also uh we did talk in a couple of the buildings Aon and I are going to dig into there is a system that you can get that ties into your fire alarm system um that you can build a panic button and in the previous District I was in it was in the principal's office youd stick your master key in and turn it and it turns off all the magnetic locks and closes those doors automatically and really the one that hit us with that was Lake View cuz those three magnetic blocked doors in the middle if that panic button would turn off that magnet turn off the power to it and those would close and be locked right away that provides another layer with a pretty thick door uh to protect a lot of people so we're trying to investigate if that can be added to our current fire system um and you know it seems like it would be pretty easy it's basically like a switch right so you're just having to interrupt that power power supply we just you know can't can't invalidate our fire system or whatever to do that cuz fires are bad too um and we did see a couple cases where we need to catch up um some newer staff on some of the tools that they have in their specific room so there's a group of rooms that have uh big siiz Escape Windows uh that they'd be able to use those in the event of a problem and they were coming out to to go out uh a main door uh and it that may have been because it was a drill and they didn't want to accidentally break the window or something but just catching people up on the fact that those are available once your door's locked behind you you've got a nice barrier between you and that hallway so you're able to get out so just kind of looking at some of those tools that we already have and refreshing people on that I know when we initially did some training in some of the buildings when I was a teacher here we we' kind of gone over those things and we're just bringing that back up with people um in terms of messaging on these drills you'll notice when we when last year we were just getting back to doing these drills they hadn't been done in sometime so we did a pretty major like press release style letter this time it's a little bit more common place we we did one last year worked to it again this year um a quick Facebook post I have an intention of doing one early in the year and one late in the year next year where we would just a quick hey thanks to the PD for doing this with us and uh the kids did a great job and then plan to share back in my weekly update uh any ideas that we saw any questions or concerns thank you thank you to the pd2 for doing that all right thank you appreciate the update on that approve the uh item P approve uh personal business procedures I think Mike's also was he needs to abstain on one of these no no you don't need to no oh okay I thought did okay I misunderstood all right question comments I I asked Mike a question when it came I came in about the people that were on Virtual turning in resignations but that's only part of what they do correct right yep yep no they're still going to teach for us and actually I want to be perfectly honest and and really publicly thank those folks um what they did is actually saved a significant amount of paperwork time for the central office staff by by doing that cuz technically the way that our contract was written for virtual we would have had to have paint slipped those positions which isn't you know much on if you're the person that's getting that uh but it's a real pain on this office and I just went to him and I said I'm really sorry to have to ask this would you be willing to do it that way and they were all three like yeah I don't want to waste anybody's time that's great so really greatly appreciate those three people saving you know Kate uh and the rest of our team a lot of time there um and I really appreciate them being willing to have given that go for us this year because I think that was always going to be a risk it could have really exploded it been a big deal and hard to deal with that they were willing to take it on and do what was best for kids thanks any other questions if none a motion to second please I'll make a motion to approve second we have motion to Second approve item P approve personel business feed all in favor signify by saying I I all opposed those are approved board recognition grab some more pizza suitable for framing so are these transfers and whatnot are they going to be I mean we approved it kind of as a lum thing how is the public going to know the specifics of this depends I mean are you question I do have one item in my uh my superintendent report I kind of wanted to share and celebrate you know work we're doing we don't publish a list of all of those but at this point it's approved somebody asked I just thought yeah is public knowledge okay well the other thing about this uh so I I'll call out a couple few things real quick that's to just a little bit as as part of my you want me just wait till my superintendent report to do that I can do that all right okay Financial reports the well I I will say this thank you all the board members um and for all that you do just just for my sure I know it's a lot of work um this is actually one of the smaller board packets that was kind of nice it wasn't 400 Pages for once and um and I just know that a lot of work goes in um from all the board members to do some things and I'll just add my appreciation to all of you for the work that you guys do and with that I did ask Lisa to start putting on here at the bottom just the ISB board convention so they can get that on their calendars and um um I know that talking with Leisa she has already put a reminder in her phone the mo to call in for Hotel the moment that they're available we've had some sketchy hotels in the past at least was up in the game a little no but uh but anyway so but I and I do appreciate the commitment that the board has made um over the years to to go the convention we really kind of got the roll up a couple years ago um the board as a whole is going to qualify for the um uh better Board of work again I think um Carol I can talk to you and Mike to what you need to do to get the points if you want the email um but everybody else is qualified with having attended last year it's really easy to qualify attend every every session last year or each year and then if we're bring caman for three hours that's your 15 points that's easy easy way to do it so you know we we'll get you the information that your care of so you can hopefully make this year's convention but the um but I think that just signifies the commitment that this board has to improve Cal schools so my thanks to all the board members for all let you having said that now we'll move into Financial reports and payment BS I more question I think I know what it's for but just clarification um there were three months worth of uh believe a school in Arkansas um from what I understand they had a new get a change in their billing person there so they didn't get them out until just right before that and I think purpose of it I guess special oh sorry special educ what I figured I thought you away three mons that the three month any other questions on financial reports motion to approve the financial report so we have a second motion second to approve the financial report all fav signifi by saying I I right and I guess I just like to comment it's it's nice to meet district with health healthy finances that we're able to do all the things that we're doing and pay pay for the curriculum that we're getting today and all the capital infrastructures it's it's kind of nice to be able to afford to do that these days superintendent report so you know typically I I probably have stuff that's pretty small in here but I want to Carol and I are on the same headlines tonight I think and I want to talk about I'm really excited about three of the three of the transfers that we have and what that means for our students um you'll notice uh your board packet uh the assignment of uh Brad Warren to director of um I'm sorry I I daa is what I've been calling it uh alternative services and attendance and the reason uh for that uh I don't know those who followed along on the legislative session and kind of in my weekly reports um there were a number of attendance bills that went through this year the legislature one iteration that lasted a couple weeks getting bounced around bounced around included taking money with away from schools during a year based on the number of students who are absent uh chronically um so I'm really excited about taking Brad's particular set of skills and relationships in the community uh he's worked in our district uh over 30 years and a variety of roles and just having him be our man who focuses in on making sure that chronic absenteeism is taken care of put a uh um job pardon me job description on each of your spots for that position and and one of the chief responsibilities for this is going to lead be to lead an attendance team in each building where we're going to meet regularly and uh well not we because I I won't be a part of that Brad's going to run that with those teams um and look at our High Flyers our kids who are missing significant amounts of time and to work with those families on a set of interventions that can allow us to get those kids into school because if we don't have them here then we're not able to teach them so I'm really stoked about uh being able to have that position and really appreciative Brad for for being willing to take on what's going to be a pretty tough job I think um thought that was pretty awesome and then going with that because it's kind of the same atrisk area um we've got two transfers in there for people into at risk teacher positions um one of which being a person who's been with us a couple years julan Bishop is going to be our high school at risk teacher um Jolan had done a lot of that work over in Burlington uh came highly recommended from her um from her principal there uh David Kaine who said that she's really talented in that area and I I've kind of seen it firsthand and admittedly I I I live with a a gal who saw her get to do that Mary definitely worked with Jolan in that role when she was there and uh she is one who will fight for what kids need um and I I'm really excited not only to be keeping her in our district but to have her in a role that I think is just going to let her fight for more kids that are kind of it's it's easy sometimes for systems to struggle with kids who need something a little different and she's very talented at making sure we don't struggle with that um and then Cameron Parker who we had initially hired for the social studies position uh vacated by Shelley Cranston uh but through some amazing recruiting uh by our secondary Administration in Julie we actually had an extra science teacher available to us which is unheard of and awesome uh coming to us from Arizona really passionate guy he a military veteran um he he's going to move into a Science teaching position at the middle school for us which will allow Todd donals to teach social studies which he was kind of interested in getting a chance to do and Cameron is our Middle School atrisk teacher which really lets us kind of build a wraparound service for our kids who are struggling and and kind of gives Brad a team as you think about all those people that he needs to work with on those services in the buildings to make sure that we're addressing behavioral emotional and and academic and attendance concerns for those kids so um this is something that I really had hoped we would get to someday and I'm just happy that we've been able to take steps to have these supports in place and I think we're going to see a lot of dividends by being ahead of it rather than waiting for the legislature to say you have to do this people will come to us a year from now and say how did you do it other than that nothing too terribly exciting sorry that's what I'm excited about okay great all right any questions for uh for Mark just one quick question when the when they look at attendance does that mean we talking about is it a whole day or is it hourly is it how is attendance broke down those hourly add up um so like if kids missing say second period every day um then that adds up you know it's a 1/8 of day or however I have to look how we have it coded in power school we might have a split in quarters of the day and it might count as a quarter of the day at that point but um those add up over time and so the new law that did pass that maybe we'll have enough teeth for people to be happy we'll find out um it does require prosecution at a certain point in absenteeism and I will tell you we do have some children and some families who are already at that point this year who had the new law B in place would have been prosecuted potentially as early as December December in some cases so we have folks we have who are who are chronically absent are chronically absent so this will be a really big deal for us um yeah do the tardies add up to you know like some many tardies is I think tardies will add up but I'm not exactly sure kind of how that functions out in there and I need to do well I got a guy for that now Brad I'm gonna have Brad take care of doing a lot of work on on seeing how that functions with power school so he'll probably spend a chunk of time with Emily kak cuz she's our power school expert and that'll work out well for us to have that but something we've talked about is how things are coded and making sure and changing some policies and things too yeah to align with the new law too honestly the new law is it's the rule making still hasn't been given to us through the de so we'll see how their rule making goes and if we get it in time for next spring um to to figure that out that funny because the spring is after we Sor all right thanks Mar any other questions for Mark all right we start takeaways Mr Thomas you got a takeaway from tonight uh yes I'm very excited about the uh new attendance off position I think that uh think that's going to put us ahead of the curve there with the state of Iowa okay thank you Carol uh um well I passed for now get back to me well you get one shot at okay well I don't have anything yet so okay Tim I was glad to hear the report on how the safety training went and that and I I heard it from the students point of view too before I in here so I'm glad to have to know that they're all thinking about that and everybody's conscious of things like that okay and I'm going to say Julie thanks for the uh the update on that program that with the IGS thing are to me those go into Student Success which is one of the two board goals this year Student Success and distory culture so thank you for helping the board to achieve that goal appreciate it Mr Mr Moore yeah thanks a lot see I'm not going last anymore I'm not I'm just excited about everything in the last two years all the all the resources and different programs that we've been able to put in place through all your work just given the the resources to the gets and also the curriculum for the social studies so that sounds like it's been a while so that's that's very good Eric yeah I I just would Echo that the the combination of the HS and you know Indian Hills being in the schools and just all these different things it's it's fantastic um you know hear say to drill went well and and you didn't sugarcoat about some we'll say weak spots but a little some soft spots and some need improvements you know that's definitely there and then to go back to the district culture and our success um some pretty big changes um were approved tonight with within the administrative team um and I think that's a good thing and and again I Echo you with the Glad gentlemen were able to step into those positions and looking forward to brings and lady yes thank I was interested in u the special ed report and how we know that special ed is is still through the AA and that's going to stay that way and so how important that is to we keep updating that and keep in good shape and what I was going to say about a was whoever got us involved in that Mark and whoever was involved in that I think and Julie I really congratulate them for getting us in this program it sounds it's going to be successful all right thank for the takeaways all right all right let get into this next one just bear with me as we procedurally get into this next one okay we're about to go into close session I would like to um I'm going to read the motion and then before we do the roll call I'm going to um ask some questions before we do the roll call into that okay close session pursu the Iowa Code section 21.51 I purpose is to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment hiring performance or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that person's reputation that individual's requests a closed session this will be a roll call before we doing this I just want to ask the board does everybody understand with the closed session requirements of chapter 21 are there any questions on that chapter okay we do have the written request okay Mr Mr Tor have we discussed with our attorney the purpose of this meeting and doesn't qualify under the law yes um is that a formal written legal opinion attorney will be in the meeting attorney will be in the meeting we do have the written permission of the individual I'm sorry the written request for the individual thank you uh does anybody have any questions about Iowa 20 I guess I already asked that one okay like to remind the board that we're while we're in closed session all sessions must comply with the requirements of chapter 21 and that we may only discuss the matters authorized by the closed session provided by the provisions of chapter 21 any questions on the procedurally loed to close session having said that and uh going into the close session does that need to be a motion in a second yes I think it's a roll call we might want to I don't know so just to explain to those and actually to both of our audiences to our uh live studio audience um we're asking that our um folks all yall stay beyond the um entrance kiosk there so in the 10 seating area up front um and then in our virtual audience we will go to part two uh following our closed session um so you should be able to I believe and C correct me if I'm misunderstanding what this how this works you should be able to attempt to log into to and it will tell you the host is waiting um until we get get in um and then you'll be able to be in that one and Mye Thomas will want to once we go in enter the other one enter the Clos session yep my my connection is slow so it might take me a few minutes to get uh back into that meeting okay tot Fair be called back in yeah we we'll come back out there and let you guys know can you still use the restroom yeah I think we're going to lock it down to the first restroom there but yeah yeah you're good let's wait for Mr Mo to do I think that might be what Mr Moore is doing right now do we need to do a motion a second on so Mr Mo comes back in uh I do need a motion to second on the Clos session motion as I read and written in the agenda so we have a motion second to go to close session as read and discussed need a roll call please B yes car yes yes Johnson yes Mo yes Thomas yes yes yes the board is now in Clos session we asked all all non board members or participants pleas almost and almost we are back in Open Session thank you very much uh I'm not sure if Mr Tom Thomas has rejoined us or not but we but we are back terminate the classified employee contract and non-renewal of coaching contracts Jacob bow affected immediately we have a motion second and we have a second this will be a roll call vote please berer
