Page 1 of 3 ## AGENDA REPORT ## Meeting Date: May 11, 2026 ## Meeting Type: City Council Conference ## Submitted By: Mike Maher, Parks and Recreation Director ## Jesslyn Quiram, Engineering Technician Title: Public Art Program Roles and Vision for Stakeholder Groups ## Background Fridley's burgeoning public art program is a collaborative effort and process between the Fridley City Council, Public Arts Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and Fridley Creative Arts Foundation. Each stakeholder group plays a critical role in bringing public art to Fridley. The Public Arts Commission, a seven-member resident advisory group to the City Council, works closely with staff to guide the vision for art opportunities in the community. The non-profit Fridley Creative Arts Foundation serves as the fundraising team for public art in Fridley. The Parks and Recreation Commission helps to align goals for public art with their vision for a vibrant park system. The Fridley City Council provides the "big picture" vision and approval for projects and initiatives recommended by the Public Arts Commission. In addition to the governance and administration of the public art program in Fridley, strong relationships with community stakeholder groups such as schools, non-profits, artists, and partner agencies are essential to a successful and sustainable program. This stakeholder meeting will provide the opportunity for a better understanding of roles and responsibilities within the program as well as personal introductions for individuals serving within each group. In addition to discussion on roles and responsibilities, staff will facilitate a presentation on current and future initiatives for public art in Fridley while compiling input from stakeholders. Specific project areas to be discussed include the Moore Lake Park public art installation completed in 2025, the current utility box art wrap pilot program, a community- based art project being considered for Sylvan Hills Park, the partnership with Creative Flow Art Center, a sculpture for Commons Park being created by artist Ken McCall, Springbrook Nature Center, and the vision for a sculpture art trail extending through the Fridley Civic Campus and Locke Park. ## Recommendation ## None ## Attachments and Other Resources Page 2 of 3 ## Vision Statement We believe Fridley will be a safe, vibrant, friendly, and stable home for families and businesses.
