[Music] hello and welcome to the city council update for February I'm Wally Weiss Opel city manager and the city council met on the 12th and the 26th and at the conference meeting which is the meeting before the regular city council meeting where the city council gets updates and has an opportunity to debate some policies but takes no action the city council heard an update from several departments including our employee resources or human resources department and they went over the various um new hires that the city has had over the last six months and also some other policy changes and benefit changes updates that have taken place in the employee resources department they also heard an update from the community Development Department on new programs and also developments that are taking place within the city the city council also had a discussion about special use permits uh at the University Avenue and um they also heard about data practices updates uh these are requirements of state and federal law that have to be updated every once in a while and the city council heard an update from our clerk's office regarding that the city council got an update from our public Public Safety department and the various changes and things taking place there they also heard some changes that will take place with regard to the housing Improvement areas and uh this is a policy that will be modified and it'll the housing Improvement areas allow for town homes and any building that has um representation by the various owners and common area space to allow them to seek um special tax revenue news that will help them and make common area improvements such as to the water mains and streets and that type of thing the city ccil then at their regular meetings got an update and made a uh vacation of streets and alleys over at the southeast corner of Mississippi and Central Avenue this is area that the housing Redevelopment Authority has been purchasing some vacant lots and will'll be putting together a redevelop area for housing in that in that uh Corner the city council then made an amendment to the comprehensive plan for 6101 University Avenue and this is a small area that used to be uh housing a or used to have a gas station on it many years ago and since has been abandoned and torn down and the city will be making a park at that little corner the city council made changes to the city code uh Title Five this is a continuing uh process of revising the entire city code this was the first reading for title five the second reading will take place in March and then finally the city council updated some Park fees specifically regarding uh Park shelters and also new fees that will be for the rental of the more Lake park building which will open in April that's the update for February look forward to giving you the same type of update in March I'm Wally weop thanks for watching
