[Music] hello and welcome to the city council update for January 2024 I'm Wally Weiss Opel city manager and here's what the city council was up to in January at the conference meeting they heard updates on the financial status of the city along with some proposed changes to the financial policies for the city uh nothing too outrageous or out of line all recommendations from the government Finance Officers Association the city council also heard an update on the rec codification process this was specifically on chapter five and that will continue to move forward the city council also had discussions with regard to the intergovernmental relations issues at lock Park regarding the NOA County and the Metropolitan County Council no uh final decisions were made on any of those topics the city council at the regular meeting uh was presented with an award from the government Finance Officers Association for governmental reporting excellence and this award was given to Corey Johnson our assistant Finance director who leads the auditing program for the city as well as Joe Starks our finance director the city council ordered plans and specifications to be developed for the 2024 Street Rehabilitation project then the city council made appointments to commissions these are the advisory commissions that serve uh the city council they received grants including an inter uh an inii Grant from the Met Council this helps with the inflow and infiltration into our sanitary sewer U uh system and preventing that inflow and infiltration helps reduce the costs uh that are associated to the city they uh received a grant from Canvas Health uh to provide for an embedded social worker for our Police Department this will be very helpful for our Police Department as they deal with issues of mental illness and uh mental health uh that might plague some of our residents the city council then uh made an adjustment to our electrical permit fees they hadn't been adjusted for some time and then the city council also received a $500,000 Grant from the Metropolitan council with regard to water treatment improvements to our lock Park water uh station that was the update for January I look forward to your update in February I'm Wally Weiss opal city manager take care
