[Music] hello and welcome to the city council update for November I'm Wally Weiss Opel city manager the city council met on the 13th and the 27th as usual they met in a conference meeting where they discuss items and learn about new items but don't take any action the city council discussed a Mississippi uh Street roundabout over on Central Avenue uh that was presented by in NOA County and that project is looking to take place next year they also heard a presentation on the 2024 budget from our finance director Joe Starks the city council got an update on the public art program uh by Scott Hickok Our Community Development uh director and they also heard a present presentation about the upcoming changes to the code the recodification program uh specifically on chapter 5 and that was done by Melissa Moore our city clerk and Stacy Stromberg our city planner at the regular meeting the city council began by honoring veterans in the city and had a presentation uh to make to those veterans including the veterans from the VFW and uh the American Legion and then the city council also expressed appreciation to the city employees who are veterans as well the city council approved a vacation request by the Minneapolis Waterworks this is allows them to do some uh changes on their property and improvements to that area the city council approved water sewer rates storm sewer rates and recycling rates for next year based on usage and needs for those utilities those rates will take effect on January 1st the city council approved a vacation request of some of the uh roadway for The Bona Brothers uh located at 53rd in University Avenue this is part of an overall Redevelopment that's taking place there and the city council conducted its truth and Taxation hearing and this is the mandated uh requirement by the state where the city holds a public hearing to present the budget and the tax impacts for next year and take any questions and comments from the public at that time the city conducted a first reading of an ordinance uh recommended by our Charter commission to make some clarifications and improvements to the Charter with regard to nomination and elections uh all the changes that were proposed were uh grammatical and organizational there is nothing in content so to speak the city council approved grants uh requests for Grants to uh construct Mississippi Street and this is even though it's a County Road the city participates in that uh reconstruction prog program and uh the city council requested monies from the Met Council from mindat and also a mindat safety Grant uh any of those grants that are received will help offset the cost that the city will incur with regard to that reconstruction and then finally the city council approved a request for a grant for safe routes to schools this is in the area of the Fridley High School and Middle School uh on a trail that would connect 7th Street and so students can get to and from school without walking on the roadways and that was the update for December or for November I look forward to seeing you in December I'm Wally Weiss Opel city manager take care
