My life [3:55] is just over. Now it's a new one. So, it [3:59] I mean, it was a truly an honor just to [4:01] do what I did being the first ever [4:02] student commentator for Fidley. Not only [4:04] that, but that they chose me to be the [4:06] first ever student commentator. So, that [4:08] that that was amazing. It's just I [4:10] always feel honored. And I'm not just [4:12] saying this because I'm sitting next to [4:13] you, but being at those basketball games [4:15] and hearing you like it was energizing. [4:17] It was really exciting. And the looks on [4:18] the kids places faces um I should say [4:21] the players uh when you're playing and [4:23] you're you're giving them shout outs, [4:26] you're acknowledging them like it's a [4:28] friendly thing cuz they know you and you [4:29] know them. So they really enjoy that. [4:31] It's great. So what is up for you uh [4:33] next fall? What are you looking to do [4:35] this fall? I will be going to St. Cloud [4:37] State University and I'll be having my [4:39] major in mass communications and [4:41] journalism. Um, and just I hope to [4:44] continue this career cuz I really do [4:46] love doing it. You know, like you said, [4:48] uh, obviously the fans love hearing [4:50] their kids' names or whatever, but I [4:51] enjoy seeing the fans. Um, just love [4:53] coming to the games and I try to create [4:55] that atmosphere of, okay, everybody's [4:57] welcomed and, you know, everybody is [4:59] here to have a good time and I just try [5:01] to I just try to have that fiddly love [5:03] just come through through everybody. [5:05] That was evident. Now Ron, you've also [5:07] been around the sports world for quite [5:09] some time. [5:11] Yeah, too long. But no, I've uh we've [5:15] been in Fidley for live 47 years and so [5:18] I was involved with Friley sports [5:22] wrestling and I refereed for 51 years. [5:26] Goodness. Wow. So yeah, so I know a lot [5:29] of the over the years the different [5:31] fiddly athletes and and the coaches. So, [5:35] it's always kind of fun to come back and [5:37] and see them. Is that Oh, wow. Yeah, I [5:40] believe that's next running in the shark [5:42] costume. She went to state this year for [5:44] wrestling. Speaking of wrestling, right [5:45] now. Yeah, that's a perfect costume [5:48] actually considering the weather. Wow. [5:51] I'm going to give her a props for that. [5:52] I'm I'm going to say she thought of [5:53] that. I'm going to say she pre-planned [5:55] that. [6:00] Wow. A shark. [6:02] Well, we do have a few hearty people [6:04] that showed up here at the intersection [6:06] of uh Monroe and Mississippi by the [6:09] Methodist Church. Not quite as crowded [6:12] as it usually is, but uh you know, a [6:15] shout out to those people that were able [6:17] to come tonight and uh and help and be [6:20] here. Whether it's younger or [6:38] older, [6:39] it it just kind of shows you how like [6:41] tight the community is or well knitted [6:43] together community is uh groups of all [6:46] ages just coming together and having a [6:48] fun run. So, yeah. [6:54] Now, myself, I've always said that when [6:57] I see a runner that's smiling, I'll [6:58] start running. [7:04] with you on that run. He's in charge of the [7:46] parade and putting that together and [7:48] helping coordinate all the logistics and [7:50] the volunteers. Um it sounds like we [7:53] have about five bands that'll be [7:55] participating and just over 80 or 85 [7:58] units. I mean with the rain I don't know [8:00] how many have pulled out today. Oh yeah. [8:02] Um you know considering but larger than [8:06] last year which is great to see. Yeah. [8:07] All I know is that we're set here for a [8:09] show. Uh it's going to be action-packed [8:12] and I'm very excited for all the bands. [8:14] You know I got maybe basically a sneak [8:16] peek uh what they were going to do. So, [8:18] I'm very excited. As a former football player [9:02] myself, I always took something like [9:03] that so serious. And I mean, it this [9:06] group is going to be really fun. Uh, [9:08] they have a big sophomore class. So Oh, there's a [10:21] candy. And it's loose. And the kids are [10:23] going raving. You couldn't wait. Oh, [10:26] he's throwing some more. [10:34] There he goes. And it's obvious that [11:32] veterans have been an important part of [11:34] Fidley history and the American Legion [11:36] post serves uh our veteran community, [11:40] civic education and patriotism in all of [11:43] its forms. [12:25] And this Saturday, they're going to be [12:27] participating in some of our kids [12:28] activities with an archery set at [12:30] Commons Park. Yeah, I might have to stop [12:33] by. The Boy Scouts are [12:42] led by Scoutmaster Steve Smooter, who [12:45] has been an institution in this [12:46] community. He has been around for years [12:48] and years. It's great to see other scout [12:50] leaders with him. [12:54] Okay, I can say a few things about the [12:56] lions. [12:58] Okay, the next group we got coming [12:59] through is some of the Fly Lions. The [13:03] Fly Lions have been the sponsor of the [13:05] 49er parade for since it started back in [13:10] uh uh 1949. [13:13] So, it's been a long time. We've been [13:15] partners with [13:18] the the parade people in 49er days. So [13:24] here we got that's the Frley Girl Scouts [13:26] there. Fly Girl Scouts seek to build [13:29] confidence, courage, and character made [13:32] up of grades from K to 12, grade 12 who [13:36] meet in various troops throughout the [13:37] week. [24:46] It's probably one of the bigger units [24:47] that we've seen so far in the parade [24:49] with all the involvement. Oh yeah. [24:54] Yeah. It's obvious that here in this [24:55] parade we're emphasizing how important [24:57] the youth is. you know, uh they are the [25:00] future and uh one way to grow a kid is, [25:03] you know, get them into sports cuz not [25:05] only can you be good at a sport, you [25:07] can, you know, learn life-changing [25:08] skills from it and also just discipline [25:10] as well. It just helps you grow. So, [25:13] teamwork, lifelong friendships. Oh, [25:15] yeah. I mean, yeah. I can't I can't when [25:18] I played football, I can't remember one [25:20] person that I had a problem with. [25:21] though. [25:23] I think some of the young kids are [25:25] passing out can candy and they're eating [25:27] more than they're passing out. [25:32] Firefighters. [25:36] They got some music, too. Yeah. [25:44] Next up, this is the Fidley High School [25:46] activities office. They offer over 50 [25:49] clubs and sports throughout the [25:51] district, including basketball, which I [25:53] commentate. I'll add that in there for [25:55] free. Football, swim and dive, plays, [25:58] musicals, dance team, robotics, students [26:01] council, salam club, and they're trying [26:02] to hit me with the candy. There's and [26:05] brib. [26:07] Oh, yeah. But wait, there's more. There [26:09] is so much more. Robotics. I already say [26:11] that's club and many, many more. [57:49] [Music] [57:54] Meline represented Chamlin in the Great [57:55] Lakes at the Minnesota State Pageant. [57:58] These young rollers shine on and off the [58:00] stage. [58:03] Following them is the Jack Brass Band. [58:06] They were formed in the 19 or 1999 and [58:10] plays feelgood music for audience of all [58:12] ages. Based on the tradition of New [58:15] York, New Orleans brass bands, they play [58:17] everything from old traditional jazz [58:19] from Lewis Armstrong's era to modern [58:22] migra street anthems. Sounds like a fun [58:25] group to be around. I can definitely [58:26] hear them. I'm really enjoying them [58:27] playing right now. Now, we have the Ace [58:31] Brothers Junk Removal. [58:35] It's a family-owned business located [58:37] here in Fidley. They offer junk removal [58:39] of all various types. They accept [58:42] furniture, appliances, yard waste, demo [58:45] materials, and more. Provide free [58:48] estimates, and even better, all the [58:49] labor. The Zur the Zur Shrine antique [59:25] cars unit is a familyoriented unit with [59:27] an emphasis on fun. And you don't need [59:29] to own a classic car to belong. It's been modified to hold [60:59] antennas instead of lights, making a [61:01] useful tool for their hobby. At their [61:03] events, they make contact with other [61:04] people hundreds or thousands of miles [61:06] away. They're a summer parade band [61:17] consisting of over 120 students in [61:20] grades 7 through 12 from the Forest Lake [61:23] Area Middle School and the Forest Lake [61:25] Area High School in Forest Lake, [61:26] Minnesota. Under the direction of Jake [61:28] Mat and Katie Dubois, the band performs [61:32] at local parades and events throughout [61:33] the summer, just like Fidley's 49er Day [61:36] parade.
