[Music] hello and welcome to the city council update for July I'm Wally weissel city manager here's what the city council was up to they held two meetings this past July on the 8th and the 22nd and as usual the city council meets in a conference meeting where they discuss and get updated on on topics but don't make any final decisions at those conference meetings the city council met with the city's housing Redevelopment Authority the HRA and at this joint meeting the city council and the HRA discussed the possibilities for the Redevelopment of the southeast corner of Mississippi and Central Avenue this is property that the the HRA has been purchasing uh for sale for some time now and the city council and the H are discussing possible single family style homes town homes or patio homes for that site the city council and HRA will have another meeting in August to discuss the final details the city council also got the results of the resident survey that was conducted this past Spring by a consultant and this is the third time in the past 10 years that the city council has participated in such a survey to provide the city council with feedback on citizen attitudes toward city services and interests in any new programs that might be out there the city council also got an update from our finance director Joe Starks as he normally does uh every few times a year and then the city council discussed the Capital Improvements program the Capital Improvements program is a part of the city budget that identifies the purchases necessary and improvements to building these purchases could be equipment and trucks and uh very expensive types of items that take several years of budgeting in order to purchase the city council uh heard those items and has passed that information back to the finance director who will be compiling that as uh part of the budget for this upcoming year at the regular meetings the city council had business where they adopted an artificial intelligence policy and with regard to the ethics so that uh the residents will know what articles and reports are being generated if at all through artificial intelligence or AI the city council also approved a public installation of art over at Mo Lake Beach and this is going to be done through the generosity of the Rice Creek Watershed District who supplying a grant and the city council selected the artist that will be used uh to put that piece of art together the city council held an assessment hearing for a street reconstruction project that took place last year on 53rd Avenue and the city council took input from the residents with regard to that assessment closed the that hearing and levied the assessments for those homeowners and then finally the city council had a public hearing with regard to a moratorium that's already in place with regard to cannabis and this is the licensing of businesses and the state legislature updated this past uh spring some laws and rules with regard to cannabis sales and the city council had to modify our moratorium that moratorium is scheduled to to uh be lifted next year when the uh legislature has scheduled for the new business licenses to take effect and that was the updates for July I'm Wally weissel thanks for tuning in and I just want to say thank you to Brian strand for his years of dedicated Service as our cable person and for producing this show thanks Brian it's been a blast
