Notable Quotes (11)
This effort is anchored directly in policy 807, which is our health and safety policy, and it establishes a comprehensive program and clear procedures to guarantee a safe working environment for all of our employees.
The core purpose of our safety management framework is fourfold. It's well to actively help prevent accidents and injuries, to increase safety awareness across all of our buildings, to ensure we meet all regulatory compliance standards, and ultimately to reduce the liability for the district.
Most of them are just, you know, that the wrong the perfect storm that just happened and it was an accident where someone was injured. We don't see a lot of things where there was something in place that wasn't that was causing an unsafe situation. It was just a bunch of things coming together for that, you know, incident.
I think the biggest discussion point for tonight, based, you know, Andy's comment, it's it it's not indicative of how we are as a district, right? Um, you'll often find intermediate districts have very high experience mods cuz they have very tough type of students. Um, it doesn't it it shows a window to the past but not what the future is holding.
I'll work with a lot of other districts your same size that don't have someone like a Kevin that focuses here on district safety, emergency response coordination. Um oftentimes that that gets kind of put on the shoulders of maybe a facilities person um or another individual that's wearing many other hats, right?
So, that means that our business and workers comp risk level is 39% higher than the industry average. That's what that means.
our mission challenges us to ensure every student sets sail on their own course to personal and intellectual excellence. That means recognizing students have different needs, interests, and goals. We want to provide opportunities that help students discover their passions and prepare for their future.
Do I belong here? We want students to feel connected, supported, and valued. Is this meaningful? We want our students to have agency in their learning and see how it connects to their interests and to their future. Can I do this? We want our students to develop the confidence and self-efficacy to take on challenges and experience success.
And the AP trend that we're seeing is a national trend. It is not just us. There are fewer students taking AP courses largely because of the the test, right? Like um so, a lot of schools are doing what we're doing is offering multiple opportunities like CIS
to me the the number of kids taking the AP test isn't quite as much of an indicator to me as um who's earning the three or better. To me that 80% says a a lot more about our teachers learning how to teach those AP classes
Um what happens every day at Wayzata Lake High School is unique. I think it's, um, the best high school experience in Minnesota. Um, and those three questions go a long way in supporting our work.
