This framework really is able to help bring clarity to teachers and to students and to families around what we teach, how we teach it, and how we ensure learning.

Grading is a tool for communicating about learning. And when we shift how we're using that tool, it will impact everything that we're doing.

We're starting with standards-based learning, grading, and reporting in ninth grade for all courses that have a ninth grader next year.

I really like the direction we're going. I like the idea of taking and supporting standards and putting those in our ones and twos, that it builds up to where that standard is at 3.0.

What's the plan for AP and college in the schools? Because that's more typical, and we've been really strong on supporting, earn your credits in high school and save a lot of money and register early.

Does that mean, I mean, do all districts the same ones? Or if it's a different district and maybe you come into our district halfway through year? I mean, I just wondered how that worked.

I like the idea of being able to grade them on the standards individually, because they might have a strength in one area, and a weakness in another area, but instead of just across the board, nope, you didn't do what you need to do, we're gonna say, well, you have a strength here. This is the area we need to focus on and help you.

Leadership Academy this year was new for us... A lot of it was discussion-based, and we used the book kind of just to guide the discussions on the topics. But yeah, really good results, really good feedback from the kids.

I'd like to look deeper into the student part of our student athletes. Currently to participate in our high school sports from a state high school league standpoint in this district, they use, what's the term, on track to graduate... but they're currently failing four of their six classes in their current season, and how does that make sense?

In the Leadership Academy, you talk about the captains of sports, and is there an opportunity for people that are in activities but aren't captains of a sport, can have some leadership training also that are in all the other activities that the school has?

And of course, you know, they already know everything so they would never need to learn more, right.

What our mission is is no different than what you would see across the state, across the metro, across the nation... The goal is to be career ready, whatever that looks like.

One, we wanna enrich the experiences that White Bear Lake Students... have access to. But also we want to encourage diverse students to return to White Bear Lake Area Schools and be educators, right, in our system.

So we are gonna replace those two courses with the Minneapolis college courses that are listed on the slides... in hopes that we can run two sections of Intro to Urban Education and Reflective Practice in semester two.

We really feel like this new course is gonna open it up to more students who maybe interested in education. So we think about social work and school counselors, not just necessarily teachers.

So one of the things that stop students from doing something like this is the inability to get their driver's license. It's expensive... Is some of this part of those services, do we have funding for that?

The major themes of the referendum were of course district-wide additions and renovations to accommodate on enrollment growth, including a new building, safety and security improvements throughout the district, some deferred maintenance projects, and then classroom and building updates to create flexible learning spaces.

Sunrise Park... Construction starts actually pretty soon here. So July of 2024 through December of 2025. It is in phases...

Yeah, so the green is the gymnasium slash storm shelter addition... We'll be wrapping that up at the end of this summer. And then all of that pink, that's gonna be what we're starting this summer.

If this were a marathon, based on the billing, we'd be at mile marker 24.18 of 26. So it's still in the distance.

Our students actually were born today, coming into our school today, are gonna be working in the middle of the next century, that mid-century modern student. So we've literally come, it feels like a full century ahead.

I think that it has really honestly built critical thinking skills because they need to think where am I going to learn best? And they're able to make choices to pull themselves up closer for the core lesson, and then they can find a space that meets their needs to do their independent work.
