Proclamation Celebrating the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America
Moved by Council member West [0:36:30] · Seconded by Council member Bray Johnson [0:36:30]
Mayor Rolf read a proclamation declaring 2026 as the 'America 250 celebration' in Oak Grove, encouraging residents to reflect on the nation's history and principles. He emphasized its importance despite his general reluctance to issue numerous proclamations, expecting unanimous support.
Approval of Consent Agenda (Excluding Item E)
Moved by Council member West [0:40:00] · Seconded by Council member Bray Johnson [0:40:00]
The council considered a list of routine items for approval under a single motion. Council member Wy inquired if all Interim Use Permits (IUPs) on the consent agenda were 'clean' and without issues, which the City Administrator confirmed. Item E was explicitly pulled from the consent agenda due to a conflict of interest for Mayor Rolf.
Approval of Interim Use Permit (Item E)
Dissent: Mayor Rolf abstained from the vote due to a conflict of interest.
Moved by Council member Wy [0:41:00] · Seconded by Council member Bray Johnson [0:41:00]
Following its removal from the consent agenda due to Mayor Rolf's conflict of interest, the specific Interim Use Permit (Item E) related to his wife's business was presented for a separate vote by the council.
Fire Department Vehicle Tablet Purchase Request
Moved by Council member Tradewell [0:44:00] · Seconded by Council member Bray Johnson [0:44:00]
Chief Engler requested funds for new tablets for fire department vehicles. Council member Wy questioned if the purchase was budgeted and if grants would be pursued, to which the Chief clarified that it was under a technology line item and a county-wide grant application was planned.
Order for Abatement - Nuisance Property at 22730 Cedar Drive Northwest
Moved by Council member West [0:58:30] · Seconded by Council member Wy [0:58:30]
The city attorney presented an order for abatement for a long-standing nuisance property, explaining that previous enforcement attempts and court-ordered extensions for the property owner had been unsuccessful. Council members voiced strong concerns about the property's impact on neighbors and taxpayer money being wasted, emphasizing the need for immediate action after years of non-compliance.
Notable Quotes (4)
I do think something as important as celebrating our 250th anniversary is worth doing a proclamation.
No, the ones that make it to the consent agenda have been clean, uh, inspected, met all the requirements for renewal. So, we are recommending renewal of these IEPs and then, you know, our standard then is to renew for five years.
But my perspective is I kind of feel like we're just kind of being ignored. Um, and so I support doing this. I wouldn't support doing this if it was if we hadn't done all the steps that we've already done. But we're just wasting taxpayer money on some of these properties here.
it's really affecting the neighbors and their you know property values. It's something that we need to consider and like Weston said, this isn't something that's brand new. This can's been kicked down the road so many time there's barely a can left.
