Members of the Commission provided input on their availability. Additional suggestions were provided on things that could help to increase engagement. ## 6.02: Update on Tennis/Pickleball Courts @ Riverdale and Central Parks Recreation Coordinator Proulx provided an update on resurfacing planned for courts at Riverdale and Central parks, noting that a case could come to the Commission for consideration at its next meeting. ## 6.03: Recreation Program Updates Recreation Coordinator Proulx highlighted upcoming events, programming, and activity opportunities. Commissioner Arts suggested moving the July meeting up two days to coordinate with the date of the farmers market. Chairperson Bennett stated that he could check with staff, and that could be discussed at the next meeting. ## 7. Wait no more! You may have noticed a 16-acre park being developed in ## downtown Ramsey, south of Bunker Lake Boulevard NW, ## between Center Street NW and Zeolite Street NW. It features a 7 ½-acre deep-water pond with a trail, outdoor seating, and initial tree planting completed in 2024. Later this winter, work will start on the water-play elements on the park’s east side. The new park construction will include a 17,000 sq ft decorative concrete plaza surrounded by landscaped berms and natural stone seating. A cascading waterfall will flow into a meandering, shallow stream, fed by 90 interactive spray nozzles with various jets, sprays, and fountains, including one zone with LED nighttime lighting. These interactive water elements will create a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere during the warm months. Additionally, the surrounding landscape, seating areas, and architectural elements will attract visitors during the evenings. This space will include three gas fire pits, ample seating, and picnic areas. To accommodate seasonal visitors, the project will add a park building with restrooms, a family changing room, and utility space. Enhancing your experience, the site will also feature: • Three shade pavilions with picnic tables, high-top serving tables, and electrical outlets surrounding the plaza. • Fixed canopies over soft artificial turf, and site furniture includes Adirondack chairs, backed benches, chaise loungers, and picnic tables. • There are three circular fire features for seasonal use, along with a food truck pad for summer concessions and special events. The upcoming multi-million-dollar project is funded entirely by the Park Trust Fund, money set aside from developers—not property taxes—reflects residents’ wishes for their community. If all goes as planned, Ramsey’s new park will open in time for summer celebrations around July 4, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. The market will continue every Tuesday from 3–6:30 p.m. at The Draw, featuring local vendors, food trucks, community partners, weekly themes, and activities for all ages. Whether you are stopping by for fresh produce, grabbing a bite from the food truck, visiting with neighbors, or checking out the weekly activities, we hope the Farmers Market becomes a regular part of your summer routine. The start of July also marked the soft opening of the brand-new Splash Pad at The Waterfront on Wednesday, July 1, giving families another fun way to enjoy Ramsey parks this summer. These leagues are part of a growing statewide initiative supported by the Minnesota Parks and Recreation Association to create consistent, high-quality pickleball opportunities across Minnesota. State-sanctioned ladder leagues are open to players of all ages, skill levels, genders, and experience levels. No partner is required, no residency requirement applies. Players are “laddered” at the start of each session based on performance, allowing participants to compete with others of similar skill levels each night. Match results are recorded in DUPR and the Minnesota Pickleball player database. These leagues are designed for both casual recreational players and more competitive athletes, offering flexible participation, skill-based play, and opportunities to grow. Play is fundamental to a child’s healthy development, and community gives children a feeling of belonging and safety. Time2Play events combine the two by providing a weekly destination for fun! Bring your kids and their friends and join us for games, sports, crafts and snacks. This is a drop-in event; no registration is required, but preferred. The program may be canceled if the weather is inclement. If you would like to be notified of any potential schedule change or cancellation, you must register online. In case of cancellation, an email will be sent to those registered, and a notice will be posted here and on City social media channels. These events are open to kids of all ages, but children should not be dropped off or left unattended. Parents or guardians are expected to remain on-site. Whether you’re looking to stay active, meet new people, or just have fun, this league is designed for you. This is a fun, friendly, co-rec social/casual season. All skill levels and players are welcome. Leagues are run by RecLeaguer. Teams will be created a couple of days before the first week. Teams are created based on skill level to ensure equal skill levels. We are limiting teammate requests to only one person. Please note that this is not an officiated league. Players will work together to make fair calls. ## Grass Volleyball This is a fun, friendly, co-rec social/casual season-all skill levels and players are welcome. This league will be run by RecLeaguer, which strives to make sports accessible to all, so its leagues are skills-based and for fun. You sign up as an individual, and then even teams are created. We will have 4 teams playing at once. We are capping teams at 8 members each. ## Soccer It will be an hour and a half of fun for all skills! Whether you have played before or never played, all are welcome to register! This casual evening session will start with instruction for a few dances, then open up into time to dance, practice, and enjoy the music and summer weather in the park. No prior experience is needed, and no partner is required. Participants should bring a water bottle and wear comfortable shoes for dancing outdoors.
