As Chris mentioned, this is more this ribbon cutting isn't just about the concrete and all the asphalt, but the vision and the persistence and the partnership that went on over the many years. So, the planning to improve the safety and mobility on this stretch of Highway 10 began more than three decades ago. At the time, this corridor was one of the most challenging and at times dangerous routes in the state. With daily traffic ranging from 35,000 to over 56,000 vehicles, including about 3,000 commercial trucks, congestion and delays were a daily reality. But beyond the inconvenience, safety was a growing concern. Between 2015 and 2019, there were more than 200 crashes, including three fatal crashes in the last 10 years. As track as traffic volumes increased, the corridor's design just couldn't keep up. A Highway 10 access planning commit study revealed that the crash rates here were more than twice of similar metro corridors. That's why this project was so critical. Thanks to the work that's been done like constructing grade separation interchanges to eliminate atgrade crossings, signals, and rail conflict, this corridor is now significantly more safe for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. The improvements are already reducing congestion and positioning this area for future growth. This project not only addresses today's needs, but also lays the groundwork for a safer and more connected tomorrow. One, two, three. Yay.
