Don, the business official, presented the 2026-27 preliminary tax levy certification, explaining decreases in the general and debt service funds due to factors like pupil unit changes and a significant negative prior-year adjustment for OPED benefits. He recommended approving the levy at its maximum statutory authority to provide flexibility for potential future adjustments by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) before the final certification in December.
Notable Quotes (2)
The large prior adjustment negative adjustments they're due to a huge negative adjustment in remployment and OPED when we initially levied for OPED. The actuarial the information MB got um in 20 23 24 was a lot higher than what we were entitled to. So we have a $180,000 adjustment alone in our oped benefit.
While the board can decide in December to levy something below the final amount that the district qualifies for, if you do not approve the pre preliminary levy at max, the district would not be able to levy something above the numbers presented tonight, even if uh we qualify for more.
