Our first item for tonight's agenda is the adoption of the agenda. Before we do that, um I would like to add two agenda items to tonight's agenda. We are going to put them at 4.1 and 4.2 so we don't have to reorder everything. Uh the first one is going to be the acceptance of settlement documents and the second one will be adoption of 606.5 district policy. Um I did not count before I sat down. We have nine uh individuals tonight. So it'll be two minutes again. First speaker, we just let them know what is just supposed to just I think our chairs right now. Yeah. So the um I will give just some quick clarification. So we had two settlement agreements in front of us, one uh from each of the plaintiffs, education Minnesota and Minnesota ACLU. Um we have reached a settlement agreement. The details of those agreements are in the packet there and then we published with the board packet as we go forward after we have signatures. Uh but the the basic is of it is that we have accepted model policy 606.5 from MSBA with a couple small additions as discussed during the settlement and the the agreement also includes that all lawsuits will be dismissed on this further detail. All right. The agenda item five is consideration of visitors. Again, we have nine social minutes. Uh, and I'm going to read this tonight just because we've had some issues. So, to maintain a respectful and professional environment, all visitors are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and appropriate manner. Your derogatory remarks or side comments from audience directed at or about speakers are not acceptable. We ask that you respect everyone who takes the time to engage with the school board. Uh comments should remain professional, respectful, and focused on the topic at hand. Disruptions including outbursts, interruptions, excessive applause are not permitted. We encourage avoiding repetitive comments or statements in the interest of time and consideration of others. Uh again, there'll be no board action taken on any consideration of Israel tonight. The superintendent or myself may respond to comments as appropriate. Our first speaker for tonight is Richard [Music] My first topic tonight is going to be the joint powers agreement that's in your schedule to review tonight with the no command about elections. This is a special election, so you can negotiate with an open county. I just talked to Carson about it, but he's still going to recommend it. But I would recommend not using the tabulators or electronic pads and remove that cost from the election. It's one election for one position. Easy to hand count and easy to do. Secondly, have you seen this little pamphlet that was in out in the lobby when I left last meeting? Read the books. They don't want you to. That's where the good stuff is. Burden Rainbow reading post. Somebody's grooming kids. from the Wall Street Journal. This is uh about high school girls athletics. Too often, this injustice hides behind slogans like be time and be inclusive, but it isn't time to lie to girls or inclusive that force them to act agreeable with their achievements when their achievements are taken by someone who doesn't belong in their light. And this isn't only a policy failure. Is a morality the moral failure of adults who know better who counts injustice out of malice or cover. The movement doesn't belong undermine fairness. It reduces womanhood to a costume. It says a boy and spike belongs on a girl podium with a girl who's trained for six years. But truth still matters. Under federal law, especially title nine, no school receiving public funding may allow males to compete in female sports. But but this is by Don Batton. Whatever the optimist, I believe that correcting the missteps on for on the foregoing list can form the foundation for a post EI general in classical music. In that spirit, I'm setting forth eight agenda items that I believe our industry should pursue to heal itself of the self-inflicted injuries and return to health and relevance. CS Lewis famously wrote, "If you're on the wrong road, progress means doing an above turn and walking back to the right road." In that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive man. And the other comment I want to make is every time I fill out a a consideration of visitors slip, I mark that I want to receive a phone call. I haven't received one since the new board took over. Thank you, Richard. Our next speaker, our next speaker is Tyler Johnson. Um, I wanted to start by thanking uh the board and the community. Um, thank you, thanks to the board for uh the privilege of speaking and thanking community for showing up and showing up, standing up for what you believe in. Um, my name is Skyler. I'm a homeowner, taxpayer, voter, and citizen. Um, when I first heard about this, um, I felt, you know, frustrated, angry, confused, and maybe a little embarrassed at first, and maybe a little scared. I was like, I just bought a house here a couple years ago. Like, what have I got myself into? Um but over the course of these few meetings, listening to uh folks come up and speak, um listening to the most impassioned, empathetic, articulate things that I've ever heard said come out of the mouths of high school students. um watching parents sacrifice their time and energy to come up on top of probably full-time jobs and raising kids to stand up um and defend their uh students right to um access to educational materials and our own teachers um both current and retired and even other members of the community and retired librarians. Um sorry. Okay. that sense of embarrassments replaced with a sense of pride that I could be part of that community. And I feel very grateful for the opportunity to connect with that community. And so I just wanted to tell everybody thank you. [Applause] Thank you, Tyler. Our next speaker is Brian Bungard. Brian. Hi everyone. Um so um as with Tyler, I I'm very proud of our community and some of the work that we've done over these last few months. Uh and I'm I'm looking forward to looking at the details of 606.5. Is that what it is? Um and um really what I wanted to talk about in regard to the books is the first thing is that I wanted to speak to how important books are for our students in this district. How absolutely important it is for them to read good challenging books and this is for them. Um, but then the other thing that I want to say which is incredibly selfish and that is that our students reading incredibly challenging and hard books, books that deal with um, I guess challenging subject matter makes them much much better people and and much much better at taking care of the community. And when I say this is selfish, I mean it that these kids aren't going to be taking care of me. They're going to be taking care of you and you and you and you and you. Um, and I want well- educated, smart, challenged people doing that. Thank you. Thank you, Brian. Our next speaker is Summer Close. Close. Hi, and thank you for your consideration. I would like to give you the benefit of the doubt and hope that you opted to use the website as an easy button to protect the children and not as the racist and homophobic tool that some seem to be using. There was a time in my former life that I would have welcomed such an easy way to limit books with content that I didn't have time to bet. When my grown baby boy was in middle school, I worried about what adult things he might come across in books. as his third grade lifestyle score had been reading at an early high school level. I constantly stopped his backpack and discouraged without permitting as I knew that would only increase his interest books that I felt were too mature for him. He soon lost interest in reading and certainly lost interest in discussing books with me. I'm the first to admit that I was gone. Losing my son as a young adult to a big mental health crisis has been a hard lesson that we don't have the control that we think we want. We should be encouraging and even begging our kids to read challenging materials and we should be reading it with them. I've learned that the world is an impossibly challenging place for many and we need to make sure that our kids are prepared for to face those challenges. I'm not here to debate that my son died because of what he did or didn't read. I'm here because of what happened next. When I lost my son, I lost my capacity to function for a time, but I still had two young daughters at home. You heard from one of my daughters at a previous meeting tell you how important books were and still are to her. In my new life, I could no longer micromanage or shield them from life. I could barely manage the basics. And yes, they read books that I previously definitely wouldn't have approved of. And as my daughter told you, they were living a nightmare I hope you never have to experience because let me tell you, you can't even imagine. And as a parent, I knew I couldn't give them everything that they needed. I couldn't get them to a bookstore or even the county library every week or every month. I could barely work, but I did pay my taxes and this did. Thank God they did because they had very caring teachers and access to books that help them get through this nightmare. They knew they weren't alone. And I can't be the only parent in our district without the ability, whether physical, emotional, or financial, to provide adequate books for our students. Our teachers and skilled librarians deserve the right to share their knowledge of books and the books that our students deserve to read. These challenging books have helped to prepare my kids for their future. You heard from my daughter who's the student council president-elect and works as a PCA and plans to be a nurse when she's older. Both of my girls are active in the deco club. My other daughter works at a daycare and is involved in the firefighter explorers, hoping to be join the fire department when she turns 18. These books have not damaged them or caused them any harm. They are empathetic, caring girls. They are amazing and they will be just fine. Thank you, Summer. Our next speaker is Michigan Ellington. Hello board. My name is Mishi Ellison. I'm a St. Francis home taxier. Um this last year when we got our tax statement, I put it on our refrigerator. Um I couldn't help but notice that our school taxes in this community have gone down. I am paying less taxes for education, but my taxes for police have gone up. I am paying more for people to be incarcerated and less for people to be educated. And I find that deeply offensive. Investment in education, it increases wealth in our community. It takes about a generation to see that investment pay off, but it enriches and creates wealth in our communities. lack of investment in education has the opposite effect. Our our communities lose power and lose wealth in the future. And again, that takes about a generation to take place to to to see the effects in our community. Our kids are reading 23-y old science books. How can they compete globally reading science books that are decades old? How can he care for us as we age in our community when they're reading books that are decades old? Books can be a mirror or a window. They can show us ourselves. They can also show us each other. And they increase empathy. I want to live in a community of intelligent people who understand how science works, who have empathy. Thank you. Thank you. Our next speaker is Chris Bean. Chris, hello. My name is Chris, school district resident and concerned citizen. I want to share my experience as a newcomer to this space. My very first time, my very first night here, I decided to show up and I was immediately surprised. I heard about the book review policy that is leading to book bands within the first 15 minutes. That same meeting, there was a conversation and an argument against the discussion around an standard operating procedure SOP uh for the board. And in my professional life, I've been a molecular biologist, a veterinary practice manager, a regional leader, and I currently work at a nonprofit. 100% of the time, SOPs have been involved. I was surprised. Then in the process of this book review policy work, I was again surprised there had been no discussion or adoption of new curriculum. Having worked in the science and medical field, I know how fast things change. I'm concerned that we're not showing up as examples to be followed, but as examples to be avoided. To this end, I would like to ask the board to adopt a community plan that makes sure we have a community that represents the modern world. One where our community is together, not divided, and have a future that we all feel like we belong to and we all stand and succeed together. I think tonight is a great first step on that way, and I'm really excited to see what we continue to accomplish. Thank you. Thank you, Chris. Our next speaker is Vanessa Heights. Vanessa, hi. Thanks for giving me a chance to speak tonight, but you're welcome. Um, I didn't prepare anything tonight. I just wanted to speak from my heart to let you know that I do appreciate the important role that you have um in our community and um to thank you for hearing the voices of the community around these important matters. Um I was particularly moved tonight by um what Summer had to share. Um, and I just want to reiterate, I think I shared before, I'm a mental health professional, been working in mental health for over, you know, for about 20 years now. And I have heard many deeply moving um, powerful stories from many souls. And I do um, just want to um, share my understanding that, you know, policies like this, both bands and stuff, they they can come from a place of wanting to protect our children. Um and sometimes it comes out of you know fear and not really understanding things and um I just want to invite people to lean into discomfort um there our own stuff um to learn and grow and I really miss sharing this you know it's very personal for me too but I grew up in this community um and my father was on the police course here and he was not a healthy man he was racist as sexist bigoted and abusive was fire from the police department in the news is something that I was ashamed and embarrassed of for a long time but I've done my own work but also um communities need to continue to do their work and um there are a lot of people that have get into power positions for the wrong reasons and that this is something that we all need to be concerned about and I know a lot of children and people that don't speak to their families or loved ones or closest people because they don't feel safe to do so. Kids that come and tell me their stories rather than their own parents and their own communities. And so we might think what what we're doing is protecting our children, helping them, and it's not. Unless our children can come to us and speak to us openly about whatever is on their hearts, their minds, we're doing injustice for them and we're creating an unsafe and unhappy community. I was hoping that this community had grown since the time that I was here and my dad was in a power position that he did not deserve. And I was really concerned when I heard about this book. I want us to move in a good direction to help with all of our community members. Thank you, Vanessa. Our next speaker is super Anderson, members of the board, district staff, fellow citizens. I wanted to read bonafro. I've been in this district for 50 years and um I wasn't going to say anything tonight, but on the way over here I got to thinking I needed to really share with you a really wonderful story and an experience that I had during pioneer days when I was at the table representing the school district. And you know, sometimes it gets a little boring doing those kind of things and passing out brochures and trying to, you know, be a good assistant before they open. But kind of mid afternoon on Sunday afternoon, a young couple approached me. They were uh I learned that she lives in Shind and and he lives in Lassour and they're planning to be married and they have a she had a daughter in fifth grade and they are looking to relocate and considering our our particular area. So that's really what they approached me. They wanted to know you know what what are the schools like out here? Well, it was kind of interesting because it this conversation kind of started off with the kinds of questions, you know, asked you know when you got to come in. Well, what's it like to live out here? Where are the schools located? How many do you have? How how are your junior or your middle school and your high school split? You know, the grade that where where does that split them and so on. But the more we talked, I could tell just in my conversation and just the way she she really opened up to me that her real question had to do had to do with how diverse are we and how open are we inclusive and I was glad that I've had enough experience at least in the school district on some of those issues starting back when we had graffiti in the restrooms I don't know eight or 10 years ago I think and anyway I I assured her that we do have lots of positive things going on that we are very uh that we have a diverse group. We have many Asian kids here. I couldn't remember the exact statistics although I'd seen them. Uh but at any rate, I I just felt really good about that opportunity to to give a real positive picture to our uh about our school districts and and afterward she thanked me for being so open and honest and caring for her her questions. And I I just really I just really think that's a real a real plus for what we have going out here, the people and our leadership. So, thank you. Our final speaker is Roxan Murray. Hello, my name's Roxan. If Ryan had his way, we wouldn't be standing here right now. No speeches, no spotlight, no attention whatsoever. He'd sneak out the back door so quietly swear he was training to be a ninja. But honestly, someone who shaped lives, strengthened this district, and kept us moving forward deserves way more than a quiet disappearing act. as he goes on leave. For nearly two decades, Ryan Furick has worn more hats than a department store mannequin. Educator, coach, mentor, negotiator, union president, and parent. If there were a contest for multitasking, Ryan would win gold, silver, and bronze twice. As a business educator, education teacher, Ryan has done more than just balance budgets and spreadsheets. He's taught students how to navigate real life challenges with patience, integrity, and of course, a steady supply of caffeine. As our union president, he's negotiated contracts like a shark with a briefcase. Fought for better benefits and stayed calm through storms that would have sent the rest of us running for cover. Basically, if you want someone to handle the chaos and bring him snacks, Ryan's your guy. He's been hit with some stones along the way, but like the saying goes, if you claim to be someone's ally, but aren't getting hit by the stones thrown at them, you're not standing close enough. Ryan stood smack dab in the line of fire, taking the hits for and with all of us. And his influence didn't stop at the school doors. He put St. Francis on the map at some of the biggest tables in Minnesota. As interimm vice president of education Minnesota, he shaped policies, co-chared committees, and made sure our small town voice was heard loud and clear. Ryan also took a stand against the district's book removal policy. He spoke out publicly and wrote powerful articles defending our students right to read because some battles are worth fighting, even if it means ruffling a few feathers or a few schoolboard members. Ryan, thank you for your leadership, your determination, your heart, and your almost supernatural ability to do it all while staying true to yourself. You've made this district fairer, more united, and lifted up every student and staff member along the way. We appreciate you more than words can say, but since this is a speech, words will have to do. [Laughter] Thank you, Roxan. And for those that don't know, Mr. Ryan Furick is moving to Education Minnesota as their treasurer, elected treasurer for Education Minnesota. We wish him nothing but the best going forward. See if we can do it cheaper. if it would be cheaper not to I mean because we have until August 1st I'd like to know what the numbers are financially if it's cheaper because we're only going for school board um if it would be cheaper just to do paper I think yeah and I can find out from county if that's an option the different price points you know for those two options and and bring forward a recommendation. So, I don't know if any of you have ever been an election judge. Um, I have been. So, I know the amount of work that is placed on the election judges if you're going to do paper ballots and you're going to have somebody be there and count every single paper ballot because that's a lot of work and we're paying election judges by the hour. So, that we're going to increase cost in one area to decrease cost in another area and also we're probably going to have multiple candidates. So, it's going to be take a long time to tally all those and get the accurate votes. So, I just have concerns that we're making a decision where many of you may not even know what being an election judge is all about and you've never done I counting paper ballots is one of the worst things in the world especially if you're going to have multiple candidates and we're going to have a lot I've been election judge my concern is just the cost um you know if we can if we can save money then that be, you know, a place that we could save money in my opinion. I would just like the numbers. If I'm avoid spending money, I would like to have some numbers. Um, Mr. That's just my Yeah, I guess I'm ask we do some calling places that option or just electronic versus paper. Yeah, I think it would uh we should stick with the the three polling places uh because that was part of a resolution passed two years ago and it continued this this last fall and this year. So I think the only question would be, you know, can we do hand counting instead and what the cost differences are and we should keep the three precincts. If we want to change that in the future, then we could adopt a new resolution this fall for the following calendar year. So, what we would say is $6,000. And how much money did you waste on? So from my understanding uh you know to Vanessa as well the work on this um there's no requirement in June for the election stuff. I know there's some hit times in July. So we're we're okay. It says August 1, but there's some other things that we have to do prior to that. Um we want the next the next meeting. So going beyond that. So are you comfortable getting answers by June 28th? All right, moving on to the next agenda item. This is uh information items and reports. Again, uh hold your questions to the end if you can. Uh tonight we have oneformational item tonight. That's kind of Anderson. Mr. Can. All right. It'll take just a second to get my report here. Uh first uh want to acknowledge an issue that we have with our graduation diplomas. The uh the wrong template. We'll send it to Justin's. And so it had last year's chair, vice chair, clerk, and treasurer listed on the diplomas. And so I learned about it just this past Saturday. Uh and so I asked Mr. Austin to figure out what happened. Uh and so, you know, he's done that. And uh we're going to be first of all correcting the problem. We're going to reprint the diplomas, uh and then mail them to our seniors. I'm not sure the timing of that. We'll take a little time to put in the queue with just and according to Mr. Austin is going to do it for nothing which I think is you know really a great thing for them to do because they they have to but again I don't know the time. So just want to let you know that we're we're going to take take action. face the uh let's see here I've never had one uh information before so we got to be ready to roll here. All right. So at the next board meeting, we will also uh present information about the actual uh special election as well as candidate filing periods. So uh first we will uh we're going to find someone uh to fill the the position temporarily, kind of an interim uh school board member. Mr. Bird is going to talk about that process a little bit later in the action items. Uh concurrently with that, we're going to be approving a resolution that will list that information uh for November's vote. So the interim superintendent until the election, as soon as that is finalized, then uh that new person will take over, the one who's elected. Uh so more information will be coming out uh soon about that. We did attach the this past year's field trip request list, so you can look at that. uh let us know if we're uh did not include something. So, I'll follow up with the principles and make sure it gets added to list. Uh we did not use any e-learning days this past year because it was a mild winter and so right now there are no suggested changes to our e-learning plan. We didn't have a chance to get feedback from students, parents or staff members since we didn't use any e-learning days. Uh but the information is included there for your review. Uh administration is not suggesting any changes. If you have any feedback, if you could let me know in the next day or two uh because we'd like to approach uh education Minnesota uh to construct uh an updated memorandum of understanding for this coming year. Um also included cell phone procedures uh that are currently in our handbook. uh as well as some minor adjustments. One is that we want to specifically include smart watches in the list uh that's prohibited um at least in grades K through eight. Uh right now there's a provision that talks about other electronic devices include smart watches because that's one of the big issues uh that some of the principles are experiencing. And there was also just a editorial change in terms of crossing off middle school and one of the sections that was just a typographical error. Um I spoke with the uh administrators about how they feel about the cell phone policy and they do not recommend any changes at this time except those two things that I just mentioned. Also uh there will be an optional I want to stress optional vaccination clinic uh during elementary open houses for this August. And uh the main point of emphasis is to get as many uh parents as possible to either get the measles vaccination or to sign um a form indicating that um they will not be taking the vaccination. we need one or the other for every student in the district. um otherwise we could be a force into not allowing you know that student to come to school at least that's what state law says and so we're really going to push the vaccinations for um measles lumps and reubella um I think it's um you know supported by Kennedy um you know as far as that particular vaccine so hopefully we'll get more and more parents uh to do that uh and we will have a notary present um math clinic uh in case families do want to uh complete the form exempt students from those requirements. So that'll be as well. Uh and then you can see the the latest uh discipline data. Uh I didn't have Maze data on there because we always give a week or 10 days for that to get kind of settled out. And so at the next meeting we'll have all I have. All right. questions or comments for the superintendent. Mr. field trips. Growing up, those like one of the things that I remember and I think most people remember is field trips and looking at the list and seeing that there's some grades that went on zero field trips in elementary school like special kindergarten and second graders and then SF kindergarten kindergarteners didn't go on any field trips this year. to me is just sad. I know we want them in the classroom, but they're going to learn by going out and doing things as well. Is there a reason that some don't do field trips? I'm sorry I didn't give you this question. No, that's perfectly fine. Um I had the same kind of question. Uh because uh it seems a bit uneven. uh and then also I think collectively we need to look at you know field trips as a group of administrators to figure out what makes sense uh with each particular grade. Uh so you know the criteria for me would be to look at you know what is the learning that's taking place. Experiential learning is really important. We want kids out in the community. I really value that. We just want to make sure it's tied to to something that uh we're focusing on in that grade wherever possible. Also, the the costs are a factor. And so, I have a feeling that those are the two things that really came up as we made some of these decisions. But we can uh we can talk about that or the district leadership team needed to see if additional adjustments should be made. I guess for me it should be a requirement that they have at least one year at least. Yeah. and I can talk to the DT to to better understand you know the timing of those events and the cost associated. Thank you. Who pays for the field drugs? Uh generally the uh AP or parent teacher organization kicks in the cost for that at least the majority of the cost. our parents all over the typically. Yes. Yeah. Depends on the field. I see we have uh principal bully here and she's part of the PBS uh crew at the high school and I'd like to send certain accolades their way because uh 14 out of 16 of these categories showed decreased uh action in minors and majors and your group was really working hard with that. I know this specifically because I sit in on that group and uh kudos to you all that are in that group and only do four. So, just want to give you that little uh shout out because of of the differences. You got an uphill battle uh dealing with people's actions today, especially the kids, it seems. Agenda item eight, action items. We have three for tonight. Again, I'll ensure the board member has a chance to talk. Um, if you're wanting to speak a second time, we'll make sure everyone else gets a chance first and then we'll go through summary comments. Uh, first item for tonight is approval of school board member appointment process. Uh so we as a school board must appoint an individual to fill a vacancy until a special election can seek a group board member. The proposed process before you meet state statute and has been reviewed by MSBA and legal without any issues. If we approve this process tonight, the application process will be open until 3 p.m. on the 17th of June. uh applications will be sent then be sent to board members uh so they can review them personally and then it'll be discussed uh and an appointment will be made at the June 23rd regular meeting. Um there by state statute will be a 30-day period for the public to petition petition against our appointment. If no valid petition then the appointee will be seated July 28th at that regular meeting. Um, tonight I just want to know if there's any issues with the application process or specifically uh the questions on the application. So you got two you have a background sheet in front of you uh talks about the process and that timeline. Again, this individual will be uh a valid school board member until the election is certified and there's no contesting of the election and then that person will seat. They do not have to wait until January. They can be seated as soon as that is complete after the election. And again, because of the term that was left on meen, we have to appoint someone in between this time frame and the special election. The second uh document in the board packet is the application. Again, this has been reviewed by MSBA. Some of the questions are recommendations with some few adjustments. And then the question specifically to the board is if we want to continue with those five questions, if we want seven questions, sorry, if we want to add more, if we want to take some away, um what your thoughts are on that. So before we do any motion, let's have any questions about what's before. So recognizing um it would be open until next Tuesday at 3 p.m. Um I don't think that gives much time to publicize this to our general public. Do we have a communication plan? Um anything like that? Because right now the only people who will be aware of this are word word of mouth because we really haven't publicized that she's gone that we're posting for the vacancy until middle of November and kind of what that looks like. I mean we have a newspaper article that talks about it where you know the entire general public here right now it's people been here last meeting too I know Dax has um we talked to Dax today so he'll have information prepared tomorrow uh right now the primary focus is word of mouth uh and u social media So, I'm not sure if if what the the newspaper deadlines are to get the uh Mil County, but we can certainly make an effort to do so. So, for the appointment process, the plan was u social media. Um it was announced at the last board meeting. Again, we um acknowledged the vacancy tonight because it was the 6. So, after that board meeting, we acknowledge that vacancy. the special election part will have a broader um communication plan with newspaper. There's some things that address that as well timing of when we have to have that stuff in. Um, and again, the time frame that we put in there, if we wait till the after July, I mean, we have that 30-day window and we want to maximize if we have someone to maximize that time of them on the board because it could be off November if they don't run or if they're not elected depending on who is proceeded to the end of December, right? It's as soon as the election is certified and there is no so it's not like a regular correct it's not any other question six kind back and forth which way I go with it but I don't know that it's needed or why we want to know how they're going things right now to leave something in there. Uh I believe that's a fair question because that's the same of course or similar questions to what we were asked and what will be asked of a new board member. Um that's just my two cents on our house question. And then my question for Jill would be Jill how long would you want to wait and how and Mr. So I think because right now if we announce it tomorrow it' be nice to go at least till closer to the end of next week. I mean ideally I do two weeks but knowing our time frame that don't have another board meeting until you know we went to two weeks we would be past our next meeting and then we'd be into August of course we would be on the board. I would just like to go a little bit longer next week, which might premi review the new applications and stuff like that. But at least it gives the public a little bit more time. I mean, when it was announced two weeks ago, she was leaving. We didn't have a plan of when we would be posting, how long we take, what this process look like. How long do we go, Mr. until this effects. So really uh that is up to us as a board uh because we would be reviewing the applications individually and then discussing them at a public meeting. So uh we would send them out to all the board members so you could review them uh and then have a discussion at the public meeting. So you could you could push it to uh they would have to be part of the board packet as a public thing. So, Thursday um the 19th would be the latest we could go to have to meet the timeline of a seated board member at the end of July. Otherwise, it will push it to the 25th of August unless we have special interested in 2019. Yeah, I think if we did the 19th, I wouldn't go, you know, 3 o'clock. I would do earlier in the day, whatever. Would give time to get the back done. I don't know if that's feasible or not. Yeah, we'll um you know, we'll we'll try to do anything possible. Um if we aren't able to put everything on the website packet that day, then it might have to be Friday. Mr. I guess I would like to see it done wrapped up next week. I think that gives them enough time. It gives them time to get it together in the course or even Monday that week. I don't think pushing it to Thursday gives them adequate time to get it all put together in Mr. I it's three day we're talking three days difference or two Tuesday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday. So that's the only difference we're talking and it's 3:00 like I could see I could see this being I don't know maybe I think this is more important than whatever but I don't know if there's going to be a lot of people uh applying for this. I don't know if that matters if we feel we give enough time or if board member feels we're not giving enough time. So I'd be in support of go till Thursday if that's would just where it stands right now. Okay. Yeah. Yeah, I mean I I understand what you're saying trying to get more time to the public, but um honestly I think the people that are going to put their names in the hat for this are already paying attention to us as of right now anyway. So I mean being open to the public is important, very important, but is it going to generate any more applications in the two different pressure? So I have two questions. Vanessa, do you have any issue with 3:00 on the 19th and still getting it added to the board packet? No issues there. It still meets in 3 days. Um, and then board members, do you have any issues as we do push it to the 19th of having that time frame to review it before we discuss it? We wouldn't get them any sooner if they were on Tuesday. I mean it would be part of a packet wouldn't send it earlier but I'm not seeing any issues is the is the question that all book is that listed on is going to be that's going to be public. They can add that if it needs to be stat. Yeah. The only thing would be if if somebody starts criticizing a particular student in the district. I mean I come up with some examples where it wouldn't be public but I would be shocked if that happened. Mr. I want just to clarify. Are we talking June 19th? Thank you. Um, number two is dealing more with discipline and support in that regard, which goes along with number one, of course. And then number three overall is just the operational efficiency and financial stewardship. So, I think we're going to uh do a better job in what we provide for the students. We're going to hold our students to better accountability and we are going to hold ourselves to the utmost accountability with our best foot forward financially and efficiency wise. So I really appreciate these goals. I think they're admirable goals. I think they're attainable and I think it'll better the educational experience for our student and uh taxpayer. It has some key areas that is off of a document that MSBA helps us provide and that's what we picked for key areas. And then it also has focus areas with assessment measures for each of the goals. And then the final goal is a professional development goal that superintendent uh suggested and we supported and that is building his capacity and understanding of AI in K12 education. He has a program for the eighth graders where they have a project that they work on um through 3D printing and developing a business plan, a marketing strategy. Um, and they they run it. He runs it just like the Shark Tank program does. And he asked some of us to be judges and u give these kids feedback. And it was an awesome experience. The program that he's running is such a cool realworld experience for these eighth graders to kind of get a taste of the real world as they start to migrate into high school and get more of a real world uh taste. So, three of us got to participate as uh judges and it was an all day super fun experience. So, thank you to Joseph and his process through that. So, I got just stated I also went to that it's just fun to see those kids and what they presented. Some of them were just searchable ideas where they probably sell them right now. Um, also graduation was fun to be a part of that just hang out even though I dropped eight of them. Nobody saw it. Nobody saw it. They weren't real. And also also went to the party afterwards and got to work with the best bingo caller in the country, Mr. That's all I got. Thank you, Mr. Humphrey. Uh, I'd like to comment on the ele party as well, volunteering with Rob. Um, it's something that the parents put together for the seniors. Uh, a lot of times it's not senior parents because they're busy, but junior parents. So if anyone has any time, you don't have to have a kid there, but to go and uh volunteer is a big deal because then the families can spend more times with their families. Uh we had a great time there. There's a lot of dedication. Goes to like 3:00 a.m. over at Split Rocks in Wyoming. So it was a great it was there was about a hundred kids, so about a third of the class, and you'd like to see more, but at the same point, that was quite the turnout. That was quite quite the uh experience uh ending in a in a uh hypnotist which is always fun. And then I'd like to give a shout out next week actually Saturday um Mr. Tulle who not only teaches English but he teaches or he's the coach for the debate club. Uh Skyler Alier and my son Jack Humphrey are competing in the nationals down in the fabulous city of De Mo Iowa. And so we'll be down there for a week next week and so wish them luck uh in the competition and they're hoping to do good things down there. They're um competing in Congress it's called. So it's basically kind of politics and you argue up or down and trying to make your case. So it's real world situation. Looking forward to that. So it's all does he have the topic yet? Yeah, there's like 30 of them. So, they're they've been crying for a couple weeks now. Or at least they have um I attended three graduation ceremonies, Apac learning center and the high school. And I just want to say we got some dynamic speakers in our students and Nathan B as well. Um and I just want to say all the best to our 2025 graduates. Fine. I had the same thing to talk about graduation. So before graduation though, we had the end of the school year. So I want to say a big thank you to all of our staff, our students, and our parents uh for a successful school year across the district. I think there was a lot of good things that came out of this school year. A lot of lessons learned, a lot of things that we are doing to improve this district. Uh so I want to say thank you for that. Um, and then to go off what everyone said, the graduation ceremonies, uh, one of the best parts of being a school board member is sitting in those gyms and seeing the joy that's coming from our students, from our families. Uh, there wasn't a moment of disappointment of anger. It was all joy. And if you watch the news, that's not a common theme across districts. So, extremely thankful that St. Francis has that. And it it definitely fills your heart when you're sitting up there watching that. Um I got to participate in mediation today. So that was super fun uh for the day and I'm glad we are moving on from that area. Um with that the handbook will now be my focus to get that finalized and finished. Uh so we will you will see that here shortly. Uh and then getting those work session topics um added to future meetings. So we will start to see those as we go forward because we have this behind us and we get to move forward and continue to advance this district. That's about that.
