[0:08] hello Chan Hassen i'm Samantha Deaggio
[0:11] and I would like to welcome you to this
[0:12] episode of the local today I'm excited
[0:14] to welcome Melissa Mas we are here at
[0:17] Federal Package would you mind telling
[0:19] us a little bit more about Federal
[0:20] Package and your history here in the
[0:22] city of Chanhassen so Federal Package
[0:24] has been around for over since 1982 uh
[0:28] we started out as a packaging company so
[0:30] Propel repel containers that are lip
[0:33] balm containers deodorant containers
[0:35] anything that's going to have a wax base
[0:37] that's going to have product that goes
[0:39] up and down inside the container uh we
[0:41] then shifted into actually make I call
[0:43] it baking the cake so actually putting
[0:45] the ingredients inside and we expanded
[0:48] into uh filling for our customers and
[0:51] now that's the majority of our business
[0:53] that we do is the actual contract
[0:55] manufacturing side for lotion creams
[0:56] serums lip balms deodorants and all
[0:59] kinds of fun products that you find at a
[1:01] Target or Walmart how long have you been
[1:03] here in Chanhasson so the company's been
[1:04] in Chanhassen since 2015 uh we moved
[1:07] from Chaska when we expanded the
[1:09] business into the contract manufacturing
[1:11] side and needed more room so within the
[1:13] last few years Federal Package has
[1:15] really grown and within that time you
[1:17] had thought about relocating looking for
[1:19] a larger space you did decide to stay
[1:21] here in Chanhassen and we're really glad
[1:22] that you did what were some of the
[1:24] deciding factors that kept you here in
[1:25] Chanhasson one of the main deciding
[1:27] factors was our employee base so we have
[1:30] 60% of our employee base that lives
[1:32] within a 10 mile radius and 75% live
[1:35] within a 15mi radius so it was critical
[1:38] for us to make sure we didn't have
[1:39] disruption to our employees and make
[1:42] sure that they can continue the home
[1:44] base here in Chanhassen so how do you
[1:46] support the industry or the local
[1:48] community so obviously from an
[1:50] employment perspective but also local
[1:53] businesses that we utilize as well so
[1:55] two key ones that we have right next
[1:56] door is one is smart press that we use
[1:58] for a lot of our marketing materials as
[2:00] well internal signage and external
[2:02] signage we also use promotion select for
[2:05] different employee gifts and customer
[2:07] gifts when they're coming on board and
[2:09] then of course just local businesses and
[2:11] restaurants like Red Seavo and Pod
[2:13] Valley we use all the time for different
[2:15] meetings as customers and um other
[2:18] visitors come into the
[2:20] business local is more than a zip
[2:25] code local means supporting local until
[2:29] next time Jan Hassen
