[0:02] [Music] [0:09] hello Chanhassen i'm Samantha Deaggio [0:11] economic development manager and welcome [0:13] to this episode of The Local this week [0:15] I'm joined by Brian Culvin owner of the [0:17] Golf Zone brian thanks for joining us [0:20] today thank you brian can you tell me a [0:22] little bit about what makes the Golf [0:23] Zone unique it's an indoor outdoor [0:26] driving range meaning that we have [0:29] heated stalls in the winter and then [0:31] they're fan cooled in the summertime it [0:34] allows you to work on your game 12 [0:37] months out of the year so here we keep [0:39] our stalls uh to a comfortable [0:42] temperature in the winter time of 75 to [0:44] 85° it allows people to work on their [0:47] game truly in the t-shirt in the debt of [0:50] the winter and it allows them to come [0:53] out here in the summer and be hidden by [0:56] the sun uh uh stay out of that and then [0:59] also have the fans steer back um so yeah [1:02] I think the uniqueness is to allow a [1:06] motan to work on their game 12 months [1:10] out of the year [1:12] can you tell us a little bit about [1:13] yourself and how you ended up buying [1:14] your business i was in commercial [1:16] construction for over 20 years i was [1:18] just ready for a change and I was a [1:21] regular customer here at the Golf Zone [1:23] when it was rain snow or shine and I did [1:26] what everybody else did i showed up one [1:27] day and it was closed and I was bummed [1:32] just like everybody else because this [1:34] was my go-to spot so I did my research i [1:38] contacted the previous owner i asked him [1:41] what he his plans were for it he really [1:43] didn't know and he asked me what my [1:46] plans were if I wanted to purchase it [1:48] and I told him I wanted to do the same [1:50] thing that he was doing i just wanted to [1:52] make it better um put a fresh spin on it [1:56] and that's exactly what I did [2:00] can you tell us what is one of your [2:02] bestselling products i would say the the [2:04] driving range for sure so we have Top [2:06] Tracer range which is a simulator we [2:11] have cameras on the building that track [2:14] and and trace your ball so it gives you [2:17] all the stats of what you're doing it [2:19] tells you your total distance it tells [2:21] you your spin rate it tells you your [2:24] carry distance and then you can play up [2:26] to 15 different games separately from [2:30] that and then we also have virtual golf [2:32] where you can play up to 26 golf courses [2:34] in the world so we do a men's league [2:37] every Tuesday night in the wintertime [2:39] and then we do a women's league every [2:40] Wednesday night too can you tell me a [2:43] little bit about how you support the [2:45] local community yeah we do a ton of [2:47] support uh a local donation we get we [2:50] what we do is we hand out uh uh free [2:54] mini putt cards so typically if you come [2:57] in we'll give you anywhere from 5 to 10 [3:00] free rounds uh per business [3:06] what's one thing that you want Chan [3:07] businesses to know about your business [3:09] or what's one thing that Chan residents [3:10] can do to help you in your business uh [3:12] you know we do have our slower times [3:15] which is September through the beginning [3:17] of November and I understand with [3:20] football starting school's back school [3:23] sports and then everybody is out there [3:26] getting their last rounds of golf in i'd [3:28] like them to know that they can come out [3:31] here and still work on their game in the [3:33] fall and enjoy that crisp fall air while [3:36] they're out there hitting balls [3:39] please remember that being local is more [3:41] than a zip code being local means [3:43] supporting local businesses until next [3:45] time Chanhassen [3:48] [Music]
