Chanhassen will begin its annual yard waste program April 7 with extended hours to better serve residents, the city announced in its weekly update Thursday.

The program allows residents to drop off leaves, brush, trees and other yard debris at the Public Works Building while offering free mulch pickup. The city expanded operating hours this year for added convenience, though specific times were not detailed in the announcement.

The Fire Department is now accepting enrollment for its kid safety camp, targeting students entering third or fourth grade. The program covers fire, bike, water and dog safety through hands-on activities led by department personnel. Participants receive games, snacks and camp t-shirts, with a helicopter demonstration planned as part of the curriculum.

Residents should prepare for potential traffic impacts this summer as the Minnesota Department of Transportation conducts construction on US Highway 212 and State Highway 5 in Eden Prairie. MnDOT will host an online open house April 9 from 1 to 2 p.m. to discuss the project's effects on commuter routes.

The dog park at Lake Minowasha Regional Park is expected to reopen around April 12, according to Carver County officials. The facility has been temporarily closed for tree removal related to emerald ash borer management efforts.
