Planning Commission Vacancies and Board Size Review

Public Hearing for Variance Request (Brady Roers)
Dissent: None recorded.
Moved by Speaker [0:04:47] · Seconded by Speaker [0:04:48]
Holly Craft, representing Municipal Development Group, presented the variance request by Brady Roers to reduce the fence setback to six inches from two feet for a specific 19-foot section. The primary reason cited was an existing irrigation system and the inability to secure a common boundary agreement with Outlot A of Cold Water Crossing 8th edition. Brady Roers explained his intention to apply the 6-inch setback uniformly across the west side for aesthetic consistency. Staff confirmed the request met all established criteria.
Recommendation to City Council for Variance Approval (Brady Roers)
Dissent: None recorded.
Moved by Speaker [0:05:22] · Seconded by Speaker [0:05:25]
Following the closure of the public hearing, the Planning Commission proceeded to consider a motion to recommend the variance request to the City Council. A motion was made to approve the variance up to the council vote, was seconded, and subsequently carried by the commission members.
Planning Commission Membership and Board Size Discussion
Dissent: Not applicable; this was a discussion item, not a vote.
The Acting Chair announced the resignation of Commissioner Michael Summerrfeld, effective yesterday, citing commitments to work, family, and other obligations. This resignation created a second vacancy on the seven-member Planning Commission. The Acting Chair proposed initiating a discussion about recommending to the City Council to amend the city ordinance to reduce the Planning Commission's size from seven to five members, to match other city boards, and mentioned the ongoing difficulty in recruiting new members.
Notable Quotes (6)
Typically, a fence would require a twoft variant or twoft setback. Um, in this case, the applicant is requesting a 6 in setback.
The reason they're requesting that is because the property adjacent is outlot A of Cold Water Crossing 8th edition and unable to obtain a common boundary agreement.
Yes. I'm I feel that it meets all of the criteria.
possible action items are either to recommend approval with the conditions noted or if you have any additional conditions that you'd like to added um to table the variance to a specific date um to recommend denial or if you wanted to continue the public hearing for some reason.
Michael Summerrfeld has submitted his resignation to the planning for the planning commission... So, he'll be resigning effective as of yesterday.
One thing to think about is if the planning commission would like to recommend up to the city council amending that part of the code to go from 7 to five board members.
