[Music] And we're live. Yay. That memorized. There you go. >> All right. I'd like to call the uh park park and recreation commission park board uh meeting of September 9th. Uh it is 6:30. And could we please rise and say the pledge of allegiance? [Music] >> I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. [Music] >> All right. I will look for approval or any additions of the agenda for tonight. >> I'll make that motion. >> Second. >> All in favor say I. I. Opposed. on to last meetings minutes. There wasn't a whole lot there. >> It was pretty simple, but I didn't see any changes or anything. >> So, uh, with that, I'll be looking for a motion to approve last month's meeting minutes. >> Motion. Second. >> All in favor say I. >> I. Okay. On to business. review of the tournament. Hey, it's Eric. >> You have to stand and say the pledge of lead. >> Oh, I missed it. >> And you have a ditch to clean up. We left for you. >> Good. Take the kids out there. Like that. >> Are we? >> I don't know. There's a whole lot of poison I >> uh so uh disc golf tournament tournament and open house. We I think we had 72 or 73 out of 75 involved. Seemed to go really well. People enjoyed the course and started about 10 o'clock. We ended around a little after noonish. I think we was wrapping up around >> it was 1:30 when we left. >> No, the tournament. >> The tournament. Yes. >> Tournament wrapped up around noonish. >> And then the open house after mid50s, kind of windy, little chilly, not a whole lot of people were showing up. >> Uh >> and it started to rain >> about 2 o'clock. It started to rain. So, we packed up and called her a day. Yep. >> So, we have extra discs um and other stuff that was donated. Working idea is that uh the remainder of the discs will donate to Mayor Lutheran. I've gotten Craig Nettles, who was the Innova ambassador who helped organize a tournament, put him in contact with Mayor Lutheran to see if they can't start a intramural or gym class or get involved in some way, shape, or form that way. >> Yeah. Way awesome. And then the excess discs can be donated to them so they can get the program off the ground and going. >> These turned out really nice. >> They do look really nice. >> Yeah, they're really cool. And they had multiple colors. >> Yeah. Oh, that's >> blues and reds and pinks. >> That's really cool. >> Nice. >> Yeah, >> I think we have about 35 discs left over. >> Yeah. I mean, they went really well. People really liked it. So, >> pretty. That sounds like they want to integrate uh an annual tournament in with the Mayor Rising Community Festival in the future. >> If if that works out in the future, it' be awesome. >> Did 75 seem to be the right amount for the tournament? >> Yeah, seemed to go pretty well. >> Yeah, >> registration was full. So, yeah, I don't know what the >> cap for registration was. >> There was some teams of anywhere from four to three to two. I mean, groups moving from holes. So, I think they probably could have done more. >> Yeah. Bump it up to 100 or not or I'm just asking. >> But that's up to them. Yep. >> Right. Yep. >> So, >> but then they had different like divisions. >> Yeah. They had there was like 10 different divisions or something >> and then like a women's division. >> There's like four or five women's division. It was crazy. >> There were four men in a team. >> So, >> but were the teams random or the teams? >> It was all individual. It was all but I'm just saying from hole to hole everybody the groups that were golfing right was it you know four all the way down to two people >> at a hole starting. So >> So then you just go on that app you sign in type of thing and then you just keep track of your score as you go and then it'll automatically upload to who won who >> get first to last. >> Yeah. >> So next time we need a parkboard team. >> I'm ready to start firing some discs off. save some for us. >> Um, some of the feedback I had gotten, um, the tea boxes weren't necessarily level. So, a lot of the guys run to the approach and then throw. >> Wow. >> So, they trip on that edge of that concrete front and back. So, that was one thing that a few people had mentioned is is if they could be level with the ground. Um, >> I didn't know people were weighing. >> Oh, yeah. >> Be like triple happy type of thing. Like kind of you get that. I don't know. >> Like >> they all happy Gilmore type of thing, >> right? Um, along Highway 25 whole 12 where the Out of Bounds, you know, if a couple of posts are painted stakes or something so everybody knew where Out of Bounds actually was. Um, trash cans was another thing that a few people brought up. There aren't out there. >> I think we only had There's one out there, right? >> One by the hill. One has one. >> So, we put two trash cans out there originally. I think we're going to up that to four. >> Okay. >> I could see that. It's just like at golf, you need them periodically. >> Okay. Um, and then the tall grass, but like everybody said, that's what kind of makes it that much more interesting, >> except for when they were losing. >> But that that's what I mean. I mean, it you know, discs. >> Oh yeah. >> Oh yeah. Like the hole I was spotting was over like a marsh. >> But it's amazing that thing there can land 10 feet from you. You cannot see that. >> Yeah. Even in the grass is >> you cannot see that. You have to danger be standing on top of it to find it. >> Yeah. But that's what mayor is is grass. >> Right. And they were fine with that. I'm just saying that that was >> Yeah. >> You know that's what makes it challenging. >> That's crazy. >> Yeah. I read some of the reviews on that course. >> Right. That was like some of the few of it was like really interesting like you know pretty unique you know the prairie kind of course thing that wasn't on purpose. >> So um >> yeah that those are kind of the feed the feedback that I had gotten. >> That's great. >> If you had heard any >> it looks good now that it kind of it looks a little more defined now. I don't know if it's just because we've been moaning a little more like it looks good driving by. >> Y people are people are out there. There was someone out there >> like in the drizzle throwing. Mhm. >> So yeah, and people were from like I got a lot of people like Chaza. One person said they were from Eden Prairie. >> Wow. >> Ana, South St. Paul. >> Oh, really? >> So somewhere like closer. >> South St. Paul. >> South St. Paul. >> Yeah, >> people are committed. >> We'll leave the winter because people will play in the winter. >> Yeah, I found that interesting. They they play in the winter. >> Shovel. >> I just was like, that's awesome. Well, it's probably easier to see the discs in winter, too. >> So, >> well, unless they bury it. >> Unless they But yeah, >> Jason was saying they'll take a ribbon, like a long ribbon, and they'll like tape duct tape it to the bottom. >> Mhm. >> So, the disc will go in, but you can see the ribbon up on top of the snow. >> That doesn't change. >> Oh, interesting. >> He said it changes the dynamic of the the disc ever so slightly, but he goes, >> "At least you can find it." I can't imagine that's hard to find. >> Our lowest rating uh category is our amenities. We score a 2.1. >> Okay. >> On the >> What kind of amenities are at other courses? >> I have no idea. Maybe it's trash cans. >> Amenities >> or bathrooms maybe. >> I say maybe a biff. There's there's a biff over by the park. >> Oh, there are biffs that when I go golfing or golf >> amenities could also refer to obstacles, >> right? Challenges. >> Oh, sure. Sure. Sure. correct >> of the course. The category ratings were upkeep, shot variety and design, tea areas, signage, wayfinding, amenities, and scenery views. >> Amenity makes sense in that respect for sure. >> Yeah, why not? >> Okay, >> cool. Good. >> Sometimes you'll have uh mandatories or mandos where hay bales certain where you have to throw through in a certain area. >> Yeah, >> like that. Well, because like Crown has a really cool like they've got a lot of trees and bridges and things like that. It's really pretty over there, too. >> Oh, our rating did go up a little bit, though. >> It was at 3.6. Now it's at 3.7. >> 3.7. >> Nice. >> Way up in the world. >> All right. >> All right. Any other discussion on uh >> I need a bed sleeping. If not, we'll move on to the coloring contest for this year. >> So, I had Melissa give us designs for the coloring contest. They're included in your packet there. >> We have to pick one or we get >> one. How many do we have? >> We had two. I think >> we had like a a little we have one for each or we >> both for each. >> These are really cute. >> Yeah. >> Yeah, we picked two. >> Pick two. >> Those are the two that I want. >> The ones that uh just for reference that we picked last year. A wreath. >> A wreath. A reindeer. >> Oh, we're going to all pick different ones. >> Yeah, that's it. We're all picking different. >> We got the same. >> There you go. Oh, we did exactly the same. >> Lauren's got that one. >> Pick one. Another one yet. >> Little kids need bigger areas to color. >> Let's Yeah, >> this might be a little complicated. >> That one would be fun. Yeah, I feel like I would enjoy coloring that one. >> Yeah, exactly. Oh, sorry. You got one for the older kids and you got one for you. >> Yeah, I kind of wondered that, too. This one was pretty comp. >> Well, we didn't we didn't select one yet. >> I like them. I think it gives you lots of options. You got Santa, got a Christmas penguin. Who doesn't love a Christmas penguin? >> I could be talked into a more complicated. >> I als I I think I think it's a penguin. It's so cute. >> Never seen a Christmas. >> Well, that one. Yeah, there we got three of them up there. So, I think that >> I feel like this one just gives you like a lot of different colors to color. >> Agreed. That's what I was thinking. I was like, these have a lot of options. >> I don't know. That one's kind of boring. >> Which one? >> Your snow globe. >> Yeah, I think all >> he's a traditionalist. >> So, now you get to color the eyes and the nose. >> You clearly don't color. >> Snowled out. >> Should we Should we color them and then we >> This is too complicated. I don't like this one. This is clearly the best. I could be talked into this one. >> I do like this one. >> Oh, you like >> No, we're changing it. I don't know. >> I I like this. >> I like this. >> Santa and the snowman are friends. >> Just There's a lot of small spaces in this one. You can get complicated. >> Look at how we are. >> Nice. There's three of >> really important decision. >> Good lobbying. >> Where's your second one, Mike? >> I know. I hurt you. I know. I hurt your feet. >> You threw it. >> Threw it away. Shame in the putting. >> What? You just put another one up. >> I do this one. This I do like that. So I >> like they eventually can use that white crayon in the box for something. >> Right. Exactly. Exactly. >> I mean it's cute. It's just a lot of white. >> Yeah. I get it. All right. So, what do we all have? >> Well, I think the penguin ones. >> I think the penguin is kind of >> There's three penguins. >> We had four four penguins. >> Girls admonished us into going >> I mean the girls we're the moms that colored with our kids all the time. So, we kind of know what they like. >> I will be coloring the penguin. >> You color. >> Wasn't your kid a grand champion of coloring? >> Yeah, she won. She gets it from >> Do you need action going on? >> Do you need to recuse yourself? Is it >> you need to abstain from the vote? >> You guys weren't here with the designs of what he had when we still had the old building out here for the shelter. >> Do you remember the old the old building, the yellow? >> Yeah. He had reconfigured that into like a a food area and bathrooms and it was >> Yeah. But the building was too old. >> We couldn't save it. >> Yeah. All right. >> The old Nick >> Oh, the old shed. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, this one has clearly won. The first one, >> the penguin. Yep. >> Now, I got to decide on the second one. We've got three of the snowman. >> Three snowmen's. >> I think the snowman wins, too. >> There's >> three out of five. Oh, Nick hasn't decided. >> I'm the non voting member thing. >> Oh. I mean, I see how it is. >> Yep. >> You told me it's fine. >> I was going to say >> I need that >> It's fine. It's fine. It's fine. Fine. It's fine. All right. It's fine. You win. We're just not going to talk later. But it's fine. >> 50% plus one. >> Here's your choices then. >> Got them. Yay. >> Should we keep the ones so you don't have to print them? So, we have the penguin and then the two crab here. >> And on these we can color at home. >> Yes. >> You color your snowman at home. >> I I apparently I need to practice because I've not done much coloring because I don't know what's simple and complicated. >> I'm I'm going backwards here. I just had a Do we have You know, we have stuff for checkout like equipment for checkout for open gym and stuff like that. >> Well, we have the pickle ball stuff for checkout. Yeah. >> Do we haven't Did we save any of these for that? >> Uh no, we're giving them away. >> I know. Oh, I just wonder if you want to pocket two of them to have them at people could >> do the same thing. >> I will >> since we already have them. >> Well, you keep 10 of them. >> Couple >> or or six? Six of them. One of each. >> How many do you need for Don't people use multiple discs when they play out there? >> You can use one. And that's what this is for. This is your marker. >> Uh, >> right. So, you put it down. Pick up your disc. >> As long as you can find your disc again. >> As long as you can. >> Okay. Gotcha. >> Yep. Yeah, we can keep a couple discs for >> Yeah, might be a better idea. Go. >> Yeah, >> I like it. >> Cool. All right. Christmas tree lighting. That's Eric. >> That's me. >> That's you. >> I'm glad you showed up then. >> Ready to throw the switch. Is that what you're saying? >> Oh, no. This is Christmas tree. I was thinking this is the decorating. I'm getting ahead of myself. >> You got the decorating. I got >> like am I being funny? >> I was like, what's going on? I I missed the first two minutes, I guess. >> Punishment. >> What do we need? >> What are we reviewing? >> Yeah, what are we reviewing >> for the Christmas tree lighting event? Uh, I haven't received confirmation on the date from the S for the Santa day for the fire department of tracks from last year. It should be the Friday before um Sunday, December 7th. So, I think tenatively we're looking at December 7th, 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Once they once they get over the 125th, that's what they're focused on. Probably get that lined up. >> I did talk. >> That's a Sunday. >> Yeah. >> Yep. I did talk with David Nar and they're good to go for the chamber choir. I did ask them to do more background than one big number. They were fine with that. So, I got them coming in for about a half hour's worth of singing. >> Awesome. >> From about 4:45 to 5:15 because then takes over right into the lighting at 5:15. >> I like it. >> Uh, I'll talk to the mayor Lions Club about uh doing food and beverage once again. Santa and Mrs. Claus, we'll make the fire department bring them in again. And uh Mike, did you want to talk to Mr. and Mrs. Claus this year once again? Who is >> Yeah, >> we can't disclose that on camera. >> They live They live in the North Pole. You >> live in the North Pole. >> I do have a direct line >> with the beard, the white beard. >> That's only because I was so naughty that I had to talk my way out of it. >> Yes, I will. Uh, yes. >> Well, once we know we get to be outside >> December 7th. So, um, >> certainly dress up. >> I'm doing it. I am not >> finding out >> bailing but somebody will have to throw the switch the mayor can or something. I will be gone. >> We'll make Mike Dodge do it. It's on camera now. We have >> We're dressing up. >> I will. >> What are we dressing? >> I don't know. We're finding something. >> Okay. >> I actually have a Halloween costume. >> Are we going to be elves? >> Yeah, the elf Mrs. Whatever she was in the movie elf at the end. I have that costume. >> Oh, so I have to find one. >> You have to find one. >> See how that works, huh? >> Just drug me. Ready? We like it. She's She's pretending she doesn't like it, but she likes it. It's fun. >> Then I'll talk to Mis Melissa about having Watertown Mayor Early Childhood do crafts again. >> Nice. >> Anything else we want to add in this year or is this >> We still have the fire pits and >> Yep. >> Fire pits will be out there once again. >> Did the Lions do hot? Yeah. Say who did hot chocolate last year? >> Lions did. >> Have honestly never been. >> Are we up in our lighting game? Yes. >> Are we lighting up the splash pad like we talked about? >> Yes. >> Nice. >> Awesome. >> Oh, Griswald on this one. >> Don't you read >> September 14th. Jeez, she's just snapping at everybody. Know the question I was going to ask a very long. >> Sorry. >> I was a council. She knows >> it was a long day. >> Yes, this will be the last weekend upcoming here for this. >> So, you better get out there. >> That's right. >> Vick's answer is much nicer. >> It's going to be warm this week though. Yeah, it is like 70s >> 70 degree due points. >> Yeah, you got to be in the 80s. >> You got to have a closing date. >> Should we have a closing date? >> Well, I mean, you No, I mean, you just have to have a date. >> Oh, yeah. No, I think that's fine for it to be September. >> You have an interest in another event. >> I'm just I'm glad it's going to be hot again this week, >> right? >> Pools are lucky to make it through Labor Day. >> Oh, yeah. Most pools close. Yeah. Before >> I think already closed. >> I feel like they closed Labor Day weekend. Yeah. And the one year to year basis >> Shaki is closed too. >> So Monday the 15th is the final day. >> Sunday the 14th. >> Yep. >> So do we is it open that day? >> Yes. Okay. >> It's open through Sunday. >> 85 degrees sunny. It's going to be a beautiful last day there >> for the kids. >> Well, I'm at that temp. I'm getting in the water, too. >> Well, perfect. That's what we got for Christmas tree lighting. >> Okay. >> Now, >> yeah, I bought it again. Um, I think I reuse most everything that we did last year in terms of voting and all that. I can see if >> I haven't really thought about what we might want to change, but there's probably something I could do to make it a little go a little more smoothly. >> We just talked about getting it out sooner. I Okay. >> Right. Getting it out sooner. Yeah, it was a little bit last minute last time. We were >> We weren't quite sure. >> I say people start putting their lights up. What? >> October. >> October. Yeah. So, if we can put them in the October >> newsletter would be good. Thinking ahead. >> Okay. >> Because it's usually warm in October. If you're in October, you're putting them up. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Mine are normally up first week in November. They don't come. >> I always say I'm going to put them up in October, but never happens. I'm always freezing my butt off outside. Oh, that's Christmas tree lighting. >> That's pretty. >> See, it was on that, too. >> Very nice. >> Melissa does fine work. She really did. >> Cute. >> Did you guys So, you guys talked about this last week. Did you >> No, we talked about it >> or last month, I mean. >> Yeah. No, not even. I think a few months ago, we talked about it >> just roughly. >> Yeah. And that was just one thing I remember is that, >> you know, everybody heard about it last minute. So, >> yeah. Do we want to change anything else? I mean, I I I think that the prizes were good. >> Oh, prizes were great. >> Yeah. >> We should tell her to move second down to the next line. >> Where are you? >> Oh, yeah. >> First place, $250. Then it says second on that same line. Tell her second down to the next line. >> That should be second place. I'll have it updated. >> Nice. >> So, for deadline, it was the sixth last year. That'd make it the fifth this year. >> Okay. >> Does that sound about right? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> We'll do the gift cards again. >> Yeah. >> I thought it was really fun. My kids really enjoyed it. >> Yeah. We drove around and looked at them. >> Some people got really into it. There was like There was some bribes put out. >> Yes, there was. Oh yeah, they had >> getting things some little uh >> somebody had a like uh some like glasses. >> Those were that was bonkers. >> What in the world? >> Over in Hidden Creek. >> Lucky Tesla. >> Yeah, the other Tesla part of it. >> Well, it was Tesla has the special >> Yeah, >> I might even get a computer. I didn't know button. Some people got really into it, but those houses didn't win. >> I feel like it was Oh, what? Who won? >> Probably cuz you're trying to >> I don't remember, but it wasn't one of those two. It There was like those two right next to each other. >> Yeah, neither of those two won. >> We had a >> I feel like I didn't really see anybody else. >> I think so. >> That's a good neighborhood. >> What? I hear [Laughter] >> on the right side of the tracks over there. I mean those people. >> Perfect. >> Sounds good. >> All right. Any other uh anybody have anything else to report or go over? >> No, sir. >> Music in the park on the 27th. >> 27th. >> Fire department. >> Yep. On the 20th. >> The only other thing does park board purchase the balls in the gym or is that the city? It's been so long. >> We could use some >> We could use some new ones. >> Which balls? >> Basketball >> for open gym. >> Go like all like basketballs and dodge balls. >> There's basketballs. Yeah, some dodge balls. >> Yeah, mostly like the the dodgeballs. I think there's maybe one volleyball in there. And then I don't know what happened, but there was a a pump. I'm pretty sure the needle was missing. So >> yeah, everybody broke all the >> worthless. Oh, nice. So I didn't know if that was park board, but I was just up here today and thought of it. >> The yellow one that's actually >> Yeah, the one that's on the top. >> Yeah, I donated that and then everybody broke all the needles. >> Oh, >> maybe maybe Well, I was going to say maybe that's something that needs to stay there behind the counter. >> Yeah. Not selfp pumped. >> But then, you know, then it's on Alicia and Tracy to >> Right. >> Do you have a pump? And then they have to get up and get I mean >> I really don't want to commit my staff to doing extra stuff, >> right? >> No, I get it. I'm just saying in the you know >> how much are needles? >> I don't know. >> I was saying look on Amazon. You probably get thousand of them for >> go there. No, I go in there once a week and >> I don't know. I wouldn't mind putting some >> mount the pump to the wall so people can't Maybe the baseball club wants to buy the city some moles. >> A thousand needles. >> A thousand? What do you mean? [Music] >> All right. >> Shoot. All right. Well, with that, I will be looking for a motion to adjurnn. >> Motion. >> Second. All in favor say I. >> I. >> Meetings. Wonderful. Sleep time. Trying to start making these longer.
