I'd like to call this October 28th 2024 central school board meeting to order with all board members present please join me in standing the pledge of legance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all we move on to E4 approval of the agenda is there any changes anything more I hope to approve the agenda I'll second that motion by lur second by a any other conversations all those in favor fa saying I I all those opposed agenda passes a five consent agenda um just a couple things to note we added within the last hour or so three um three people brain C J vo and Wade manland list there just came in so we did add those to the agenda any else Mr talkers meeting to have what their description don't care um I if you if you I um these are all winter Athletics it's indicated on Mo to approve consent agenda it's presented one by Ericson second by CRS any other conversations right all those in favor say I I all those opposed agenda passes you have an owl snap okay we'll move on to A6 acceptance of gifts there's quite a few gifts on here um St $27.50 from St jobs for the Raider room $2500 from colone Fire Relief Association for volleyball equipment $2,000 from Laura van is scholarship $500 from Minnesota Valley Electric backpack program $2,884 two donations from the central girls basketball boosters and the central boys basketball boosters both for shooting machines $1,000 from NY lions for citizen awards for students $400 from NOA lions for title one night and $400 from the N lions for family literacy night and then we had a donation of a flute from music M that correct and Jupiter clarinet and that was an anonymous donor thank you to everybody W for your generous donations any conversations or questions from board members move to approve gifts second motion made by Smith second by proot any other conversations all those in favor signify by saying I I all those opposed gets approved public forum no these are all okay we'll move on to C informational items monthly reports we'll start with the student council welcome looks like it's just me but that's okay um so starting off with homecoming week it was a big success um our dress of days the parade pet vest everything went well everyone really enjoyed it um the senior Rock we had out front it did not get painted last year but this year we are working on it um right now cin has a base coat and we will be um working on it more this fall and then in the spring we will have all this MHS on it for trle CHS for um and then a thank you to Mr mic for helping us strip the C paint off the Rock and to Mr Rosy for helping and then the blood drive um created 15 firsttime donors which was super awesome and we collected a total of 41 kinds of blood so overall we met our goals we're super happy with that um coming up the seniors will be talking to the Kinder gers about um school spirit and um kind just hope for their future here at Central um just giving any advice to things like that and then another project we will be doing is on the wall here at school we will be putting a Thanksgiving apple tree where students can write on sticky notes what they're thankful for and those will be that aome thank you questions from board members thank you for all your hard work thank you so much for being here appreciate it we'll move on to C2 student representative reports all right well um board members I'd like to introduce Kon Hoyer to you uh Katlin is a junior um at Central High and she will be taking over for Jackson as our student representative everyone be nice to Caitlyn I met with her for I don't know how we met for about a half an hour the other day and just kind of talked about what her role was and and um just how how it all work and um so don't put K on the spot toight but Kaitlyn can you just why why did you want to be student of rep um I think it'll be on like be a part of like the background Central and I don't know more opportunities yeah should be did here and over here we have Jackson he we just couldn't he just couldn't get enough of us he came back and uh um and so Caitlyn this is a glimpse into your future right here so um Jackson y so Jackson was our student representative for a year and um like every year we present our student representative with a claque of of thanks and gratitude and um that's going to be presented by Cher there you go well we did a chance to steal our photo before you guys all came here so we thought we'd steal a photo CH so Jackson I took a photo but Jackson want to thank you for your time with us on the board we really appreciated and valued your input and just your dedication to being here and being a voice for the students here and I hope you learned something about civic duty and you enjoyed your time with us and you consider doing this in the future be a great rep in the future will so congratulations and thank you for everything when the msba scholarship comes out let us know and will write something all right's get you want to say anything or are you just gonna he's out here yeah moving on to C3 superintendent report all right uh good good evening everyone um just just some things that I have been up to the last month so um probably about a month ago or so I had the the fall superintendent um uh yearly convention I guess convention or um whatever up north and had a lot of learning actually some of the learning that I had there I'm bringing to you tonight um around board orientation so I'm going to be talking a little bit about that later on in the in the day or the here um on Friday I was at saf which stands for schools advocating for fair funding so um basically it's a group of 84 school districts that have formed partnership to um Advocate at the legislature uh for fair funding PRS for schools so we are what um um our our organization would call a commercially poor District meaning we don't have a lot of commercial property like uh I'm going to pick up pick on a district but if we have a roll St mall that affects the tax base of our entire district and and so basically what ends up happening is we can pass levies when we have Equalization or Aid that comes from the state it comes to us at a different rate so um if we pass the exact same Bond or the exact same Levy in a different town based on based on the fing funding formulas that they actually cost our taxpayers less if the funding formulas were equalized so we set our we set our um uh lobbying agenda for for this coming legislative session and we are um looking at um lobbying legislators to have fa Equalization for our district and others across the state so that's some of the work that we're doing legislatively um finally we are entering or we have entered the the punchless phase of of construction we we're we we're just kind of working through that when I met with Cher she had asked um what the perspective timeline of of the punch list phase could be and I'm hearing um from Nexus this could be a January February um timeline and and maybe even um maybe even a little bit early over that um but just one example is just this last week there was a um there was a crack in one of the underground um rainwater drain pipes and Company showed up and uh they dug into our back parking lot you know the day before our section football game and it just so there there's going to be some things like that but but just know that those things are being addressed and forward so that's good news um that's all I have for super report questions I question feel bad last mon you were here they did a conversation about the High School of the Future did you do that yep so we did so we've had two we've had two um yeah thank you I I probably should yeah no that is absolutely okay so um we've uh I've I've been part of two groups so far we've met with a teachers group small teachers group and admin group um facilitated by Dan hman is a retired superintending in the state of Minnesota and then um we met was a part of it we met on WE Thursday Thursday of last week uh we met um for an hour and a half in our first meeting and so we just we have some of our Baseline data now and now um we're sending so I don't I just I'm just going to say we are in process I don't want to necessarily anyway now but we are in process all right any other questions okay we'll move on to C4 four reports do anybody got anything job in there thank you um the monthly slide deck is attached um nothing unusual for the first three months of the year everything pretty much is following line as expected to the budget just a quick update there we are wrapping up the audit uh this month or very very soon I believe so we would expect to have an audit report at November may I I will point out two things on the on the finance presentation I did um a month early put in is typically we report a month back um and so we did I did put in and thank you Mr Lon for having that up I did put in our our enrollment our initial enrollment um for the year is really good news so the gray bar graph is was our R for last year um the maroon bar graph is our R this year the yellow line is what we built our budget on um so we we are looking really good right now quite honestly and you can see from September October we did lose U what is it probably four students that went that started with us or thought we thought they were going to be with us and then they told us that they were somewhere else between that so um I things are looking better than they have been a few years moment so good are you seeing the growth that El that more all over the place it's all over the place um um we have I have a document that that um we track every single Kelly burin tracks every single enrolling in and rolling out so we actually have um say I'm looking at Rich over there I don't know if you've looked at did you look at our enrollment coming in is it 7 was it 77 76 there were 76 new kids I want to say 76 new students but then we had we had you know 35 students that in that we're here so we have something the neighborh have more than 70 new faces at Central this year so and I can if you want to bring down my get that I have that data very easily accessible so in the Y Line that would have been obviously that so that increase would been probably thing too um we gained 17 students from now okay and some of those would have been Elementary and some of those would have also been sixth or seventh grade did Green Charter School only go to sixth yeah so it's just my point of saying that Sarah some of them are it is any other questions related to the finance report any other board Shelby Josh and I did on the 10 sit down with SH and start talking about contract negotiations for the 25 through 28 that's right school years so um potentially hoping to have something back the November meeting consideration all right d discussion items D1 raer rally recap Trish mcon um M the president of the Central District club and just wanted to give you guys a report back on what we've been up to and how the raer rally went this year the first ever um so the ra was home for Saturday of October and we have about 240 attendees um this also included our Hall of Fame indues in that program that the Alumni Association started and there were 12 indues for the hall of fame um it was a great event tons of great um set on auction items live auction items I think everyone had a great time uh it was very well received I've received a ton of thank yous and just like that was really cool glad you guys started started that um in general we probably raised um it $28,000 for the booster club in one night so it's really exciting um for that hard work to pay off because it was a lot of work to to put together but we're excited to um be able to broaden like our or expand kind of more than just Athletics even though we've always been more than just Athletics for our booster club but kind of just I was look at you know for sports stuff but we really want people to know that we're there for the drama club the music Club the elementary students like if there's things in needs that anywhere in the district you know that's needed um we really hope that people start coming to us more for those things um and there's you know donation forms and stuff that teachers and coaches and stuff um have and Mr Clay has those to give up as well um so yeah we're really hoping to kind of spread some of that um well earned money to other groups than just like purely Athletics alone and so um and we've done a lot of just different donation things to the elementary school already this this fall just with some of their Awards and to their student council they've asked for some donations so it's been that whole radar has been kind of a nice little vehicle to help us with more things um we've always done great just with concessions and apparel Sals anyway but um so those kind of just gives us one more Avenue to to help wherever it's needed I think last year within the last year we've probably given over $20,000 to just different programs at Central so we're pretty proud of that any future plans for future Rader rally yes yes so if you missed it um our next J rally is the first Saturday of October that's kind of what we're hoping to always keep it so people get it in their head like that's the r rally um so forward next year and it will be held in Hamburg at the Hamburg Hall um so yeah Mark calendars now already she how has the sideline start been going uh the online apparel um it's been going okay um we don't get um as much of a kickback from BSN um then we would if Le build apparel room in person um but it's a lot to hold all that inventory so we're kind of dwindling back our options that we have in person just to to more basic t-shirts sweatshirts hats things like that and then anything varies you know you want a blanket or you want a Tumblr or you want something that says you know girls hockey you know or whatever it is now that we have that option um you can order all the specific things through the BSS so we don't we don't get as much back okay doing it that way um but we realized I think in the last couple years that we were sitting on a lot of inventory that is money tied up that doesn't need to be so that change um and I I will say out of that $28,000 we did schol directly auctioned two um 24-hour parking spots in the back the Trisha has already signed the signed the purchase order for the signs are they they're here they're going to get they're going to we're g to install them um but uh I and okay if you were there don't don't guess but any guesses on how much those two 24 hour parking spots went for each don't say go $1,500 I was gonna say 2000 yeah $1,500 each so I I I I did I about had a almost I figed that one one decent change be ready to throw a second one out there and we'll do another one it was great so yeah it's fun to you know some people love auctions and they just really wanted to win so yeah those two signs those two signs will be going up uh B kind of gave option they wanted both front or back Fieldhouse and they both chose Fieldhouse entrance so and they both were um once's getting split but you know two grandmas that want a great spot to park when it's in the winter and come see their kids play it's perfect any other questions great job with it really cool I was there um with the Hall of Fame it's cool every one of the people that were inducted they were all there that was really cool to hear the stories and I think that brings a lot to it really ties the community together so yeah it was really great and um I think to like great some of we that to to the students you know like their their stories go deep you know in C you know like Central Athletics or if it was you know at Brown's family was there and it was really important for them to be there and um but yeah just and just hearing their story and like how coaches growing up really affected their lives from then on until now um really cool to hear and like I think it'd be great for students to hear that too so to oh nice job thank you thank you P2 community ed student services Elementary and secondary building goals yep yep yep no no no no no go go up and hit return to meeting we up top or uh yellow up right go thank you no there we go sorry on the click on the presentation there there we go stand on your head rub your stomach hello everybody super Comm the education director for those of you that don't know me I think everybody does um thank you for having come tonight and give a little presentation Community Education is um often running for the fall here we wrapped up Summer it was a very busy summer at kids Co and um baseball was busy and now for The Fall season we've been doing soccer and volleyball and now we're gearing up for basketball and we have a new staff member Reed stacken is now our Recreation Youth and facility specialist and he's doing an awesome job and being well received I think and understand Sports very well and enjoys working with people around it so excited about Reed um our goals for the year it's on to business uh the first goal is that um by the Year this year this fiscal year I'll develop a comprehensive marketing plan for Central Community Education programs that targets local residents improves Outreach to underserved groups and highlights available courses which will result in a 15% increase enrollments and a 20% increase in website website traffic and social media engagements so you know the actions around that are I need to collaborate with my stakeholders so we have leadership meetings and we'll sit together and collaborate to develop plans about how to roll these things out and then also with our community members we have an advisory Council um meeting here on November 18th and so that's a time where I'll like to gather more information from our community and also thinking about hosting some focus groups I think it would be a good time to do that after being here a year and some of the changes that we've had to implement of just hearing from the community a little bit more and then of course allocate resources assign roles for outreach um content creation and Data Tracking and execute with time bound Point touch points so that's that's my first goal here and the second goal is around our pyramid model um that is our social emotional framework for preschool children and it's a comprehensive robust program that is um developed through the Minnesota centers of excellence which is now Bri works and so we're we're collaborating with them on this and it's really good for our students and it's really good for our so that's that's a an important goal for us so by the end of the fiscal year of 2425 our preschool program teachers will Implement pyramid model and be assessed using this teaching practice observation tool it's called a teapot we have internal coaches that would have been trained and we'll go out and um be in our classroom and make sure that best practices are in place with our teachers which will result in good classroom etiquette for our students and learning for our students and we'd like to see an increase in two areas um of that teapot from fall spring so the actions for that is that our teachers have to um complete their three tiers of training they'll have their final tier of training here in November 4th and then um those teapots will have to be delivered once in the fall and once in the spring our te our internal coaches have now gone through training last week it's pretty in sensive was two two days and they have to take a test um to reach Fidelity in their like um rating of that whole process and so they both passed and it'll be great they'll be able to get in the room and do that and then of course the teachers will participate in coaching Cycles twice a month so our internal coaches will be in those classrooms T twice a month following up on you know goals that they're uh I guess deciding together and you know as they have these coaching sessions and then there will be an observation and there'll be a review of that so I'm so excited because it's a very robust program with lots of support from our teachers to be able to make um an impact in our prol classrooms and of course our success will be measured by those improvements in the teot scores so um do you have any questions for me around those two things so I have I just I want some clarification just explain on one thing so not only the pyramid model but some of the work you're doing around um maybe some literacy assessments uh you have a hope maybe for next year some the state of Minnesota open up some applications for VPK you talk about that I know it's not exactly related to this but can you just touch on that just so VPK is called voluntary pre kindergarten and it is a state run program where um school districts can apply for some additional funding and it's like an ADM like you would get for your kid through 12 grade kiddos and it's 60% of your kindergarten enrollment ADM and so it's based also on pre reduced lunches and also your mixed delivery plans that you have in your and you need to have accredited or um evidence-based curriculum and also um assessments so we're working really hard to get that curriculum in place for next year uh so that we have all the things we need to be able to get a yes from the state for some seats for us here at bpk and so that funding would help us tremendously and our parents um tremendously too so really looking forward to seeing how that goes for us but this is really uh for four-year-olds only so it's that year before kindergarten of trying to have children have all any no barriers to opportunities to be in preschool and so um yeah that's for for the for and hoping to be able to get those seats so we can get a few more children and join our program yeah anything else I a quick question it might be more of a question for you we impl ppis at elementary and other levels also just we are not um I would say we do elements of PBIS we are not like a PBIS school though like like through the there's a consorti I would say all of the things that Sue Ron enriched you in terms of recognizing students you know recognizing their behavior uh having the students of the mon what we call at the elementary school s maret um not just Triple A like that isn't there a character character traits those are all elements of P but not duil it does yeah PID model bab one thing obviously we got the there any update of yeah that's a big one right we have a craft coming up on November 23rd it's here and in this year it is not going to be at the elementary school and at the high school it's going to be all here at the high school with the Fieldhouse being complete it makes a nice venue for us to keep everybody on their one roof and it also helps with our workers of not having to have two different sets of workers at each place and hopefully just um the flow for for the community is improved um to having it all Under One Roof we have an abundant amount of vendors coming in uh we were like down by maybe 20 and now I think we're only down by like 15 from last year so um when you make a change sometimes people are not always so sure about how how it is but I think putting it on social media all of a sudden this week they were texting come to the crash so we're super excited we have a lot of vendors um it'll be great join us on the 23rd from 9: to 3 and the flooring that's getting yeah yeah so so Reed so Reed the the facility specialist was meeting with Cody today to finalize how are we going to make that floor um safe for tables and chairs because the the field Flor has a little different and so I I didn't get get back about it but I know we have some plans and how and we're also going have to for the after school so when you have people coming in before school and you have salt wet side and people are all come in Dr salt get the floor that before we got first Hour Glass a good point Josh and I was wondering about that myself even like you know when you come into a gym have to change shoes to piggy back on that have we gotten anywhere with developing like a community calendar thatso we're not fur so I will tell you in the Leo program there is an eye calendar where anybody who's entered any of their we enter all the athletic events that are going on in community ad um I don't think we've taken everything that's going on in school district as far as the State High School Le things but if you're interested in anything beyond that in Elo our our registration program thereal on to Mo on I something interesting if you heard the van scholarship she was my second grade teacher and 50 years ago today I was probably sitting in the corner of her room can you go to the next slide for me okay the goal we have you can read I don't think you need me to read that to you right go from 57 to 65 essentially in fluency there's three different components automaticity is the one we're going to be focusing on and we got this data from Fast Bridge the last few years and Andrew and I have been noticing the one area in reading fluency that we have been read targets automaticity and ENT what automaticity means is site words words that you can uh that you know without having to sound those out so if you're talking about when you first started reading you were sounding words out that's great for kids to do but obviously if you're using all your muscle to sound words out you don't have any ability to comprehend what you're our accuracy is very high so we're we're happy with that and phrasing is fine I think the next step for us is Hope sitting on that automaticity which allows kids to read unencumbered by sounding out wordss that make sense and and yeah you go next one so the DAT is from fastbridge uh I think the two things I think will be the most important are the bottom three goal setting and weekly discussions in our in our plc's and we have someone from mde coming in who will be visiting those plc's to make sure that things Andre and I are seeing are in fact what is best practice and what we believe will be the most effective and an accountability piece for me is number four Andrea and I are having uh every other week conversations and check-ins to individual teachers so they'll be doing fluency tests with kids throughout the year and I'll be able to monitor that and make sure that we're moving in progression that we want to move and sometimes we might not be with individual kids for sure and then it will be our job to come up with a different intervention or a different plan to help make sure we move that uh move that SC in know you know in a way that automaticity is easy for them and they can concentrate on comprehens questions thank you secondary welcome um so our starting with our secondary guiding document this is something that we built this summer which guides all of our work especially as instructional leadership team on I'm G just you can look at that if you'd like but that's something that to keep it in front of us for our math goal you can see our Baseline CMS and CHS all Baseline um one thing that I randomly did I accidentally opened the this uh our goals from my first fall 20122 and I just want to say that the CHS Baseline that year was 56 this year 71 which I think is a big um tribute to what the Middle School's been doing and the high school's been doing I because I pulled up and I was 56 and then so you can see the action steps there U building thinking class we had our M had a chance to go this great conference they're implementing something new I chat with you about that individually if you're interested our PLC standards work we're really trying to continue to make sure um that all the standards are being covered in all of our classrooms and so our PD day coming up we're going be mapping out the year and then making unit plan to make sure we're assessing the standards and just trying to really stay tight to those and keep them rigorous we have a new math support model I'm trying to address give intensive support to any kid has gotten or is giving an F I'm trying to make no Fs in math um and if we are standard oriented then no F and math would mean that our achievement would go up on these test except the T are covering so um going on to reading again uh those are we're going to going up by 3% those are all both fall fast Bridge tests and reading CHS was 64 uh when I first my first in 2022 so and the Middle School both of those were right around the same um but I was really proud to see those go up you go to the next one our action steps here that same work with plc's they are identifying the standards and ensuring that they're getting hit in all their classes study sink curriculum is being adopted our mtss team we have reading intervention happening um across our across our building I've actually been helping with progress monitoring this year the kids who are getting the tier two support which has been really fun we've had two rounds and actually able to see the kids start to progress in their uh fing comprehension so that's been fun and again uh we are working to have cross curricular literacy strategy shared so that reading um is happening in all classrooms and literacy is being built so finally our culture ement goal we have a similar survey that we give three times a year trying to really make sure that every kid is known and we added the caveat in this one that anol has made an attempt to connect with me and for those this year who said no there's someone that they could that they know or that they could go through the serious problem there's a followup question that says is there someone in your life and we've been times with the ones who we only had four kids who said there's not an adult either at school or in their life I feel like we go through and we've been really working hard to connect with those kids but our Baseline data there you can see for this one in the building is 88.1 in 2022 that number was 77.7 so it's 11% increase overall for our Baseline and we're going to have that um go up hopefully by 3% go the action steps um so big ones that we share who is it connected to someone at school and our grade level PLC split up who's got this kid who's got this kid trying to get really clear expectations students we had our high school monthly assembly today I ran jeopardy with them and I crash oh man one kid was like I don't mean to be rude but I don't think you understand how jeffardy go and then they have one of the answer of one of my questions from my P PC they help make them they're calling me out that's not the correct answer go back to class we're trying to celebrate we're trying to celebrate kids and students nominate teachers which is so sweet to see one of our new teachers Mr dor was nominated and celebrated today so those are kind of quickly through our goals and our action steps what questions might you have I don't have a question but I have a comment I think that some of the work that you're doing and maybe this maybe the reason we're doing it is because there's been studies done but if not this needs to be like the culture and the looking out for these kids like that needs to be published and like SC our horns a little bit about that because that's I mean to hear you say that I was like G I almost started crying because it's just so sad to know that there's kids in our district that are don't have anybody and that difference in their lives is just amazing so Kudos I think yeah our te our teachers are just phenomenal I think um all of our staff is um the thing I would like to say too is I think this really helps them with their learning but I think in my this is the best thing that we can do for school safety like this is the proactive thing that I wanna we tried to catch that the kids are hurting before special education goals welcome all right so we have two goals again this year um last year we were focusing more in like moving them from red to yellow or yellow to green and just based on you know where our students perform and what we know about their struggles we decided to look at growth so we want each of our individual kids in that are receiving services to make growth on fall to spring so um last year um you know you can have all these programs and they all have their little Lites on them so I get to spend a lot of time just writing out every kid's name and writing out every score that they have and Computing in the spring I do like doing it though because it's it's get to see each kid and see where they're at and how they progress so last year our students in special ed that were receiving Services um from Fall to Spring um made girl 67% of them M GRS second grade through 11th grade so I want to increase that as our stud Department by 3% so we have 70% um so action steps um all of our specialized teachers are using fast bridge to PR monitor um in the lower grades they might doing like nonsense words they're working on most um putting the sounds together and or then they're working on influencing um andless they're more efficient with that then they're also incorporating comprehension so um one of those steps um they're meeting in plc's making sure we're analyzing the data to see if this KS not making progress what we need to do um we're using Sunday and I can I know confidently that in the Middle School forer are now using it um and they're using Raider time also as a double dip so this year some of our um staff are going into the classroom to do some team teaching um and then also having an option to have some double dipping during ler time for those that need a little bit skills um and then we're collaborating and just knowing the standards and making sure you know sixth grade might have a standard our kids might not be there yet so how do I task Analyze That figure out how do I get closer to that standard so using those and knowing the standards so we're not just shooting in the dark of what we're teaching the kids that isest house standards um and then in the area of math again looking at that girl so surprisingly they both read 67% last year I know I know when Andrew and I were looking at it she I'm like this is weird but from last year's data it was um 67% uh grow from Fall the spring so increasing that by um% 70% accuracy or um join Ro so again um we're we've learned a lot with bord this year actually as our mtss team and there's some new things that we can use so getting the teachers in in their hands so they can use that progress monitoring to see is the intervention working what I'm doing um and then we were lucky enough to get two new resources this year um we got one from middle school that's called transmath and from all the things we've heard schools have implemented it the kids by the time they're ready for nth grade have been in the Gen algebra class and have the skill set I was um in a classroom doing an observation and it aligned with things that we're teaching at the elementary school like strategies that we're using to teach addition packs and um so that was nice to see that it's aligning and they're using similar language um it's it seems really really good so again they have a direction to go it's um on the standards so what working at a pace where our kids can can be successful as well um and then at the elementary level they have Bridges intervention so they've been trained um they are starting to adapt and they're starting to use pieces of it um kind of the goal is by December to be fully implementing it and using it um not excuses but they're at 26 to 28 on a case load so it's a little and Julie e singer has been a blessing for us she's been very flexible and helping support but it's been kind of a a lofty start to the year with how many kids we have in program and so they're doing the best they can they have a great attitude I see Smiles all the time and it's great to see but um they're working on that Bridge's intervention and getting that up and running in the in the classro um so those are my two goals for our department questions I feel like I have to say it after you we have one on position in terms of sta we have on fi position that we were looking to reduce ours but yes sh yeah not I mean growing our I think climbing to 28 it's just there's a need and we we can to address all needs that are out there so than thank you thank you directors and principles thank you D3 2023 24 vision card results okay so if we pull up uh the vision card uh here um so this is this was our this is our agreed upon um uh look Force for um for the district the board devs this and and I'm just going to go through uh and explain this so um looking at K Readiness level uh I'm I'm on the I'm on the far left um column where it says measure so we're going to be looking at K Readiness level K3 reading growth K8 reading growth 9 through 12 graduation attainment market share of students living in the district total District Revenue parent and student uh parent and staff support uh thir through third through 11th grade MCA math levels and eighth grade science level B on the MCA so before I go through this I I want you U I wonder if you heard a theme from our principles and directors that um we're using fast bridge to progress Monitor and to kind of give a a a put in or tow in dipping uh to see um if the if our progress monitoring is a leading indicator to what is going into uh what is going to happen with MCAS and unfortunately our the the leading indicator from our fast bridge data does not match our our MCA results like that even close um so I I just off the top of my head because Rich ped home to us but his Baseline data right now at the high school is 71% in math and 74% in Reading did I get that right pretty close close enough 73 73 that is so that would tell us that when a student when Caitlyn takes the MCA and all of her friends that 7 that three out of four of them should be passing the MCA in that and I'm just going to uh our number eight indicator right now we we are at 53% of our kids passing so um you don't hear me say this very often like we are we are struggling internally uh with the leadership team of like what like what do we need to do different is are which assessments are are the ones that um are the ones that matter which one should be which one should we be looking at I think the unfortunate piece of MCA is it gets printed in the uh start every year but I would say our kids in math have very high rigor and the ones that are and we have 100% graduation rate it's not like teachers are over I one thing I can guarantee is teachers are not overlo trates I'll tell you that like no it's just so we're just struggling with some of that data right now um just just so you so I'm going to go through this so our igd level is at 75 uh 70 to 75% K3 reading growth we are at 65 to 75% so so last year was yellow this year is green so if it if there's not a change it stay the same so we actually went up and made in are level four of our K3 reading levels in terms of in as measured by as measured by um vast prod K8 reading growth we're in the 80 to 90% um students meet or exceeding that uh that growth level 19 those based off of the fast fast Bridge yes okay so those two are Y and so eight uh gr n uh excuse me gr Gres n through2 graduation being on track for graduating um remember last year we're very proud of it we had 100% of our class graduating that stay the same market share of students living in the district we are still in the intervention ired um our market share of students living in the district was I think 64% to their capture rate and that has gone that has that has gone up this year um you know we we you know I think I texted all of you when that came up that um that has gone up and our that's the first year in a while first year in five years that that's gone up so went up to 64 yeah yeah I think our I think our low point is 59 any time that I've been here um so again we are using strategy possible to try and um Capt market share of students in our district total District Revenue we actually dropped a little bit we move conferences we have we have a new set of data of who we're looking at and but we still are in level four there parent student uh Excuse excuse me parent staff support um based on our parent survey given um at the end of last year we are at 90% um and we talked about that at the m board meeting if you recall um and and uh third through grade third through 11th grade MCA level so there so this is not fastp this is MCA levels we actually dropped down to um 53% like I said for for MCA Nath levels and our e grade science level so I do want to I do want to give a little like public service announcement our e8th grade is the only place where we can measure science and in that is that is like the culmination of science instruction through eight grades because we just it it just I don't want pressure given on those eth grade on those eighth grade teachers but we um So based on this data this is why we implemented um steam why we did steam at the elementary level um and I think that is that 47% remind me how many years have we been doing the science MCA um hasn't been a ton has we added this we added this by thir sui so our initial our initial vision card was 1 through S and then we added eight and nine we reading and um because when we well at the time uh when we did that we were looking for grow there's not I don't have a I don't that that is we were the recommendation was to look at because I think the idea is is you could have a you could have a kid that's in my opinion that's passing that 20% well that that kit makes goes to 30% that's 50% growth but that like I'm proud even though they have not yet attained I'm very proud of that I don't know you but if I had 50% growth on my 401 G year don't guess right so like I think that's we are trying to meet we're trying to meet students where they're at um is is kind of the the thought process being that we could very well um well I want to have a board discussion on that but I I think um in my opinion I I like looking at growth because that that's all to the set moving your top performers you have your top performers grow have your bottom performers grow that Mak sense and are the MCA test results if people opt out are they considered a a fail so do we have a lot of opds we have not dropped below the standard we have less than 5% hopped out but um I I'm can you are you okay if I just kind of talk about this a little bit so I mean rich and I have t Mr Larson and I have talked about this a lot specifically at the at the high school and middle school it's not not as much as with the high school so I we are seeing that students aren't necessarily invested I would love your input on this honestly are not as invested in this in the MCA test so at the elementary we break we we're breaking it up into like three um into like three sessions because it's like it it is a two to three hour test the fast brid is like a 20 20 to 30 minute test um um you know we've seen a trend at high school where some students are done in 10 minutes on a twoh hour test because well I'm not gonna I'm not going to give a value statement we are asking why are you taking 10 minutes where you know but but those are the same students they they they are there's counts in this just as much as the student that takes two hours um I Know Rich has um put together some goals for a student body in terms of um attempting and trying hard um and in terms of proficiency read proficiency too Mr LaRon proficiency and we're gonna focus on growth growth okay growth and and yeah we're really try to um have everybody take it not those not get those opt out yeah yeah we try to be pretty transparent here's where we're at where our neighbors are at yeah here are some goals that if everybody takes it so many people improve here's how we're going to celebrate people and and and let's you know I I would say juniors are sophomores and juniors are uberly focused on on act you know I it's just it's is there a benefit to utilizing act in any that not every student takes it either you know I I I think there's option that that is optional so I I I I feel like I'm making excuses and I don't want to that's not the vibe I'm trying to give off at all but we are for the first time we are we are questioning we are questioning our own data like why is it that we have this many kids passing and meeting seing or or aren't in aren't in intervention I mean we that's the question say the fast Bridge so to students take the fast Bridge a little more seriously because that puts them into intervention potentially maybe or just less questions you're more time has to be better but me they take that one a little bit more seriously because otherwise they could be put into an intervention group there is some negative reinforcement to that Tim has opting out of the MCA always been a thing really so if you have more than 5% of your school opt out of the MCA like you get dinged from theal Department you have to have 90 in order for it to be valid you have to have 95% of your students participate and there are schools that have I can think of one school that has like 10% of their students take the test because they just it's not a value of the school I just want to ask I can't remember it when I was in school but yeah okay um it's I mean it's not something we advertise because we don't we don't necessarily like that that has negative repercussions on us as it we yeah yeah I'm not just so and and maybe if I mean we do this every October and maybe this is something you want to think about we if you want us to look at what other data points could be you know we could do that to you I don't remember what it was about adding something in here to do with their gpas or something I don't know so I so we we could do that I think GPA would also probably translate to on tracks gradually which we're already measuring here but not I mean it's I guess I'm open to anything I I I I'm also trying to paint our because I I am extremely proud of data in there um maybe I don't know I I I I am I'm not prepared to to put out recommendations right now but I I I do want our district showing the complain and I just see what's happening of what you're seeing I don't think you're a long we just talked about this this month with the intermediate District that it's just like questioning the data that it's not showing what the kids really are learning so to pass the MCA you need to be at the 60th percentile which isn't average just St is there is there any talk on a larger level of the state that's I will here's what I know um we've talked I I've been part of superintendent groups that talked about it doing a away with the MCA has actually been talked about but it can't be nothing there has to be something there like no accountability is just not good for anyone um want that data something they want some data they want some data something but I I would argue um the like I said the leading data uh to our progress monitum and fast bridge is probably more important because I mean our like for example this morning our mtss uh teams were meia our counselor um Becca Andrea the principles they were all meeting and supporting and they're reshuffling intervention groups for for kids like like they use that data um to to react to gets which is what and I would argue the MCA I don't mean to say it's kind of like an autopsy you know it's like it's like the F fast bridge is preventative maintenance brushing your teeth and MCA is an autopsy I just I don't know that's bad that's probably bad just I heard it I heard it I heard it somewhere home comments out there I think there's got to be other organization like other districts that we we are we are this is not this is not a central issue but we are in charge of central is there anything to account and maybe maybe this isn't a high amount of kids but bad test takers test anxiety I mean all the above and I I would imagine that comes into play with MD also right maybe not I would say probably not as much but when you're when you're sitting in front of a that an assessment that has five sections and um um they has five sections and they have 30 questions each maybe that's a little exaggeration but pretty close yeah so the market share talk five what is the average I know there are some districts where yes they retake what is the normal I I would say what we have on here what is okay so you just asked two different questions you asked what is what is around us because I know that most districts do not capture no I don't know if there's a district that catches super high 90% would be tough wouldn't it um I'm sure 90% would be very diff right so like but I was just wondering what is the average cap rate in our area I can't answer that right now but I can get that data for you very easily I just be curious as to I feel like I've shared it ones that have like the same private schools that probably draw so it's not is it like low 70s yeah so so I would say 0 a little bit what we could achieve I guess that's kind of where it could be but I I I think I think we are I think we really um if we start capturing 75 70 70% or more of our students there's a whole bunch of central specific issues that get easier and better in terms of um just financially Andes and suctions and all that um just so should it be shifted then I wouldn't recommend shifting it okay I would I would say this we are aiming for a high capture rate um I I think what so I can get that data for you and I'll have it to you I'll I'll send it to to the board but I think there's two things that I would recommend capturing like what is the capture rate of the district s districts and what is the capture rist in districts that have a robust Charter School within their boundaries because I think that I mean that's C that is one our issue one of our issues because it looks like the this sheet you gave us was it one or two millions ago the closest we were to 70 was back in 2015 yeah yes yep and in myar right Conor um our low point was 59 correct 58 58 would this be cous want to see that's so based it off a conference districts yeah we were um I mean there was a time where we were in the intervention uh well why District that's a lot larger District a lot larger cities too so I just did on the small side of the districts okay so I I did not include so full full disclosure I did not include Delano M West Tonka Hinson Jordan and Jordan yeah and and holy family and some us Christian don't have that Is there further information you're looking for from us a discussion talking point glad digested a little bit is I'm going to get if you have a question shoot to me I'll respond to the whole board but I am going to get that data that you ask for I'll s say that again I I just no I'm glad you WR it out because I think it would be interesting just to see okay any other questions for vision card um I guess do we need to follow up with are we looking to change the vision card moving forward or or we just kind of discussing results that it's better that we feel that our students are achieving better than what that picture looks or like is there a followup to the discussion we were I don't I I I was not recommending that we change anything election change um but I yeah but I I do I do think we need to I want to have the leadership team looking we're talking about this I guess this just it's it's an are it's an area of frustration it's it's FR D4 2025 20 well I'm going to start over D4 2025 26 Calendar revision 2026 27 calendar draft all right U Mr Larson can you please start on 2526 so this calendar is the exact same calendar that you approved last year um with the exception of we added conferences the conference dates on here so we added conference dates in November and Conference dates in February that was CDA um we agreed on these dates and um I don't anticipate we a lot of discussion about this calendar this is something that's been out there for two years so um the Cadence of this this year is um I'm giving I'm bringing these to you in October and then this is going to come back for final approval in December so you're not going to see it next month you're going to see in December again um Mr Mar you could go to the 20 um 627 tenative calendar this is brand new um so I'm going to just kind of go through um beginning of the year to the end of the year um sorry for the go uh we'll you know as typical per usual we'll have four days um of teacher Workshop before Labor Day Labor Day is on uh September 7th in 2627 uh we would start our first day of um K12 on September 8th and our first day of the following Monday um in October we have a mea fall recess and then we would have our first early release and order one with the staff development day just like we do this this coming weekend um uh and then the three day for three days off in November November 25th is a teacher comp day here um in order to kind of get everything to fit we um we are the recommendation is to go through or excuse me December 23rd um to have a three-day week there on on that Christmas week um and then we do not come back to school until January 4th so there is um like a week and a half off uh there um staff development on ML Day end of the quarter on the 22nd um President's Day is no school for staff or students and then um we looked at several options for uh spring break um but had it at the second to the last week in um in March there with a staff development day um the Monday after spring break so actually kids will get out uh a half a day on the 19th and then would not come back to school until the 30th um we just uh typically we have staff development day um attached to the end of the quarter um to make sure our student and staff days is aligned the April 23rd is is is just an off dat for staff and students and then on this one be would gradu graduation 12 is iding that is our um initial spot so um why is it set up the way that it is um we have some other we have some off days specifically February 15th March 29th March and April 23rd later in the calendar and that that is specifically designed that way not because we want to have less days in the spring but if we do have polar vortexes and of those and of that milk that gives us days later in the calendar to potentially bring students and staff back so we do not have to go extended days past does break up some pretty long months too it does so I know that's the first time you're looking at it um but I am open to feedback our discussion that we have about the 262 studing calendar do contct they're the same so those are semesters yes how many schools are corbor you think um I know there's a I know aonia does um many years but they have so there's a there's a threshold that you have to need for construction and based on their lcfm revenue they they're able to to meet that and then there's a cons the districts in southwest Minnesota and Marshall area that that um that they're able to do that I am 100% open to start a before Libor I know there there has been some legislation in the past to repeal that like where districts can just decide it um you know I I think like there's certain districts for example rville because the state fair will never ever in a billion million years start before because their parking lots are all filled up from State Fair traffic um I would say we have a we have a high amount of users through FFA that goes to this to the state fair potentially fair for sure State Fair potentially I would say if we decided to move in that direction I would just work with those families and kids um so that way they won't beiz about that but um you know September 8th is a later is a later labor dat for sure and Memorial day is the 31st yeah so so so in that case so you're absolutely right Sarah so because of Memorial Day being being as lat the latest that it possibly could be this calendar actually works out pretty decently but if we would had like this year or this year this like because because because of the way that Labor Day lands where honestly were Christmas lands and were Memorial Day lands we have to come back after like there's no way around it um so again always always open I just want if there are parameters that the board wants me to look at I think I think you all need to discuss that as seven of you I'll I'll build something to work within those parameters thing I would say is with the snow days you know on average s days right so if they have to use April 23rd maybe March 29 y that's a long time you know that we have more days potentially if we start earlier to play with it I I well I mean to your point there um Josh is is if we started early we were probably ending earlier too because we so but yeah because we're Bound by days contract but it's but it hold this let me let me ask this is the board interested I I want to say in my second year I did a parent survey around I mean it was pretty long it's like 30 sem OD questions it was like what holidays do you celebrate as a family what are your non-negotiables like and and from that survey two things came out I I mean it was almost I don't say unanimous but it was like 90% of fam said we want a spring break and um what was the other thing it was spring bre and start after Labor Day I think it was was the other maybe maybe it was maybe on the other end but if you're interested I can absolutely did that survey out and send it to our families hey we're in calendar development we're looking for some feedback four years yeah I Rec that just because why the C that was absolutely pre-co it's probably time to just take a look at it again I mean so many things have changed has ca ca has not seen this they seen and they don't mind those three days of yeah when you said we that was that was that was their uh so we we I brought several drafts to them and the recommend their recommendation was to go to the 23rd and basically basically it's it it's that April 23rd date could be moved anywhere or the February 15th dat could be moved anywhere in the calendar and I think the discussion was having a three-day week and that having three-day weeks is more preferred is what more preferred than yeah yeah that makesense ter student achievement kids get how many how many days do we have to kind of work with there's we did have a snow Nai so we have so we have two days to work with so we so the first day is just a regular good oldfashioned snow day then we get five days right of e-learning and then we could have two other days that's what I'm talking about yeah we have two days right where of cushion in case we do have a really bad winter cold s Etc what that would be is eight total have 167 165 is the minimum if you if you it's not it's ours but that is a okay yeah yes I mean personally I don't think it makes sense if we try to start before Labor Day well graduation up to the 21st of May I I think it looks pretty good the way I think the6 27 calendar plays all okay it's like maybe the one that should have had the conversation yeah 25.6 but I think it's definitely always always find out where what fames are at but agre so um I still to do a surve okay so I'm hearing I'm hear this really nice yep okay this one works years coming up that this will work this what I'll do is I'll I'll update the the survey I will send it to the board as a as just a PDF and if you can just respond he looks good or consider this that and what will come on the next agenda will be the 2526 final correct no both of these both of it'll be this final and this one will not final yeah this one will not have conference days or anything like correct so the 25 26 will be finalized that will be tenative but but I think the hope when we went to this two-year cycle is that you're not moving around spring break or break I think the the idea behind it is that families would be able to know when spring break when the start of school is when the end of school is when spring break is when a break I think that kind of makes it a good year to do a survey because this calendar is so pretty you can just kind so we kind of know for the next year going forward all right days does that give us cushion as well so where I'm getting at is let's say it's the February board meeting of 2027 right we've had a bad winter right and we're anticipating U running out of days can we adjust the school day in the number of hours and minutes to then make sure we're meeting the statutory requirements we could we could having mean how you do that would be up to you and just like when we talked about this with uh the construction piece my recommendation would be to add full days because that is what's best for that yeah I'm assuming yes this is worst case scenario yeah we run out of the because because the two days yes because because if we run out of the two days it's not e-learning days it is you have off it is the the two days would be like day number one where the teachers have it off where they where contractually they have that day off I can I can contractually have them make that up to the ones that if that's what you're saying yeah that's that's been that has been agreed to a C Worst case we still have some things in our pocket we hours minutes we can easily get depending on when the days happen I think it's reasonable to think that we can get to 10 days counting April 23rd and a March 29th pext if it's going to happen it's going be happen the snow will come in March ail DEC okay I'll get that I'll get that uh survey together anything else on that one okay we'll move on to D5 D5 board orientation plan draft okay so um this is I'm not going to spend a ton of time on this but um when I said I went to the MS uh the superintendent conference and had some learning um I went to a session with Alger School Board um there excuse me superintendent and his cabinet and they just talked about um their board orientation and he shared this so full disclosure I'm steing this from school district but I felt like it um I felt like it could fit us um and and again full disclosure also like I you know we have two we have two elections with the school M school board members on this on the school board sitting here right now and I think the orientation that Shelby Sarah Kyle and Sarah received that was in person down in St Peter was just different than what Josh Connor and Emily got I mean you don't know any different but I'm I'm just telling you because because they just didn't do they didn't do that and what I'm what I'm wondering is is is um having a a like a set protocol like these are so specifically and I want to go down to go down to to um um page five six and it says vento M meetings where it says December of 24 January of 25 February 25 and so on and so forth where we have um where um our new board members will get connected with a with a Mente Mentor um relationship with a board member they meet with me we talk about we talk about the things that I'm that I'm putting out here um um just to just to shepher people along um in in particular that first year because like I you know I'm not going to me people on the board here sitting here but I've had private conversation with all of you and some of you said like I didn't know what the heck I was doing you know in the first meeting you know when you get that first meeting and and you know I it I mean you're you're for the most part volunteer board members that are serving your community and and we are at least going to have one more new board member here and I'm just wondering how we could support that person who member it is to be the most prepared um best Bo member that they possibly can be um and I don't know I just I just would like your thoughts on this and if you scroll down even further to to the bottom where it says year one year two year three it's not just hey we do this year one but um maybe there's some ongoing development where where um people feel supported and feel um equipped to to to thr it how are they doing it uh are they do it online again or they I have no idea I just I know I honestly I looked at it because I put the dates in here look at person um but I I would imagine I I I think msba has gotten some feedback that they prefer pie saf here and then they do this little they do they do a traveling show around the state to try and kind of hit everybody but I don't know if this is something this this board is interested in and I'm not trying to have you make more work for future board members but I also think this like having a standard of this is what KS talked about for onboarding I personally don't think it's a bad thing um but I would I would I would be interested in in having you look at this and feedback um so that we could adjust it what I would like is to maybe talk about this again I feel like when I started I kind of made Ni Call My Mentor without it even congratulations nominated because I ask your questions all the time so yeah something I know you brought this up to Shelby now and we're talking about the agenda development then I think this is a good a good start everybody have the same consistent information and we can look at how to get this into play and how to phase it in where it's not a thousand meetings you but is it a small 45 minute Workshop before a board meeting or something Bo session or something so we can dig everybody can go in in the digest this a little bit and just give you some feedback that yeah I would I would walk other conversation it's a good thing thank you go there was a lot of value to that yeah that was nice and again we I don't want to blavor it for the three of you uh but it's like we got in groups with other school districts and so we were we were like kind of bouncing things off I I mean some of us were like not on that you know it's just like you know sorry I probably should said but it was it was it was good it was it was helpful that um that we weren't alone in in some of the anxiety taking on to Adventure no I just think it it would have been helpful even if it wasn't in person or whatever like just to just to have like the other board members that you were new with like I know like Josh and I were texting each other during it because it was all online but I think like had just like the three of us even been in a room together doing it watching it for would have been better than what we did do because yeah it was not you it was you couldn't ask like you they did the best they could under the circumstances being it was Co totally understand but and I know it was worth I had gone once before and then I went again with Kyle and seron and that was very helpful to go to phase one phase two in person again with experience with experience you're like aha here's what they're saying here's what they're saying and here's an example of how that plays out when this happened for us us enjoyed that D6 first reading of policies um nothing nothing to talk about here uh just this is our this is our first reading again procedure is first reading one month second reading the following month I linked I didn't link in every single policy here um just the the just the link to where they are in our website um uh nothing to say other than I am every three years I want to make sure that we're looking at policies these will probably not change even one bit like we're not changing the code that but I want to be able to say at this within the last three years the operational items oh my I lost it I'm really struggling today consideration of the November board meeting dat okay um we have an election in case you didn't know we have election coming up in how many days seven days eight days um and by law we need to P this our election results seven Cal at least seven calendar days by um after after the election so um I'm not trying to poooo this this is a formality I mean public can come and watch this but literally I'm reading the results off of the p app that comes on the vo machine and then you all at least four M four board members that are there can observe them and then you will vote to accept those results and then I I send I send me the the canvasing results to Carver County elections and that's actually what makes the the vote official even though on the night of the election we'll be posting unofficial results so um adding four of you there and you need let's just place you would probably need about two days to make sure you get everything from the counties back correct correct so you're looking at this would the seventh be too early that's the Thursday that's not too early so you at the seventh or eth or really just something to keep in mind fingers crossed football possibly could be quarterfinal game be on Seventh or 8th we could do a morning so that was my point is just consider seven to seven we can do a seven to seven y um we could do seven I need to double check if if there's laws on how early it can be I don't I I mean obviously you can't you wouldn't logistically have something at 5: a.m it should be accessible to people I want to find out if it has to be between 8 o' or 7 o'clock or something like that but but if it could be at 7:30 or 8 o'clock in the morning I I I would recommend that I can double check I'll double check with Carver County um I mean so those games would be in the evening we did like yeah did an earlier evening one that's what I was that so can we shoot for the seventh is that okay seventh do we want to see would we have four that could come in the morning if you want to do morning and at least four that could come in the evening we can't do either either I can do either either there we go we got four need four but if we had five I was an extra buffer great yeah okay yeah calls okay
