Community announcements. >> Commissioner Hutterman. >> Mr. Chair, I had a chance to be uh get invited, I think it was the third year in a row for something called Amazing Shake, which is cool. One of the local schools does that. And um the sixth, seventh, and eighth graders get a chance to come into a room and take the hands of adults, introduce themselves, and uh some of those kids will go on to um uh I think 12 of them move on to um Lifetime Fitness hosts the next round, and then one of those kids gets elevated to go to Atlanta to represent Carver County. So, I thought that was amazing. Uh and there's other um schools that are interested in participating. Had a chance to be out in Waconia, got invited to go to an event at the Moravian Church. uh uh the conversation was around a lot of the hot topics that are in our community and um I I learned a lot uh and I think that it's uh good that when there's uh community members that are hosting things as a as a productive dialogue area and inviting other people that can make a difference in that space. Uh Commissioner Anderson and I had a chance to be at um the city of Chaska city council meeting last night to share update. Um we also meet with them quarterly like uh Commissioner Workman and I do with Victoria. Um, administrator Hemsey had a chance to be there and uh, we had a nice uh, about 30 minute um, presentation. We stuck around afterwards too and saw one of the plats and the development growth that's happening and I guess it just was a reaffirmation for me that CHAS is almost built out the growth of Chaz and some of the things that they've done wisely to to balance their tax base. And so it was a nice night to be there. Um, I'm sure Commissioner Anderson has additional comments. Tonight is Chesa Youth Night for the women. So if you're not doing anything, it's getting a little bit warmer out. um kids will be on the court at 6:30 and then again again at halftime. Um I just think it underscores how uh important it is to have community and in the form of sports. Um I'm able to see it through my two kids lens, but that brings the community together. Um and then finally, I think it be we'd be remiss if we didn't say at least something about this point in time where we're at right now. And I've been gathering a few different quotes. Um sometimes people expect us to do more, sometimes people expect us to do less. But some of the quotes that have been um as I've navigated some hard conversations with people in our community that have stuck out that I wanted to share. One was if you're stuck, look up. I'm a person of faith and sometimes I get wrapped around the um um the axle of some of the things that are going on uh and realize, you know what, some of these things are just outside of our control and um and belief in a higher higher power of matters. Um I also found that there was hope in some conversations that were had yesterday at the state and federal level. Um and so some things some things that think seem impossible aren't always impossible. our pastor had uh shared in his message that two things can be true at one time. And he also underscored a member of our our uh church group was detained and uh and um it's it's hard because it's so personal. It's hard when it's on your basketball team. It's hard within your kids' school. And so um somebody said, "Can we just put on our neighbor jersey before we put on our political jersey?" And then also somebody many in our community are hurting uh in a public statement doesn't make it any better. um nor does it mean that if we don't make public statements that we're not working in silence behind the scenes uh to help our neighbor. And so I just wanted to recognize that we're in a moment right now that our our community is hurting right now regardless of your politics. Uh I was had an opportunity to to go to the township meeting last Wednesday which is always um a good opportunity to get a little bit more engaged in townships and and learn a little bit more about contract file drivers. So that that was fun. Um among other things and um yes uh I want to thank Commissioner Udman and and Administrator Hemsy for for being uh participating along with me at the Chesa City Council meeting and um they have a couple new council members in Chesca. So, it was a good opportunity to kind of do a bit of an overview on on what we do and and how we work together. Um because, you know, local government is truly a team sport and um I strive that here in Carver County we can emulate how other government entities can work together. Uh a couple announcements. Uh Febfest is coming up on February 7th. Um the time for that that's on Lake Anne and that is from noon to 3 on February 7th. I may have said something different earlier but it's from noon to 3. I double checked. Uh I have the opportunity to speak at the League of Women Voters um meeting tonight at 6:30 at Crown of Glory and um just an opportunity to talk uh a little bit about the uh the the different levels of government and how they interact and how um how people can get engaged respectfully. And also on um Saturday, January 31st from 11 to 1, there's a self-care and mindfulness for the new year. And I know the new year started already, but I would really encourage uh people to to think about attending this. This is put on by NAMI and the National Alliance on Mental Health. Um, so this is uh at the Chanhassen Library and it's an opportunity to build a toolkit for better self-care and learn how to recognize when to use those tools, learn new techniques to help improve your self-care routine and receive some of the new resources to try. So, um, in in, um, Minnesota when we don't get a lot of sunlight and the sunlight isn't here for very long, you know, people have seasonal effectiveness disorder and whatever, this is a good opportunity to um, really learn and develop better tools for self-care. Um and then Ice Cribage on Benton Lake on Saturday, excuse [clears throat] me, February 7th. Uh registration starts at 11. If you want to play low cribage, come on out. And also on uh the 7th is the Hamburg Hunting and Fishing Club annual fish fry at the Hamburg Hall. That's serving from 11 to 6. And then last night I went to the 24th annual Laconia West Carver Rotary Gourmet Wine Dinner. It was held at Buddy Boys. Janet and I attended and Roger Storms, local cologne icon, received the 2026 service above self award recipient. A very great honor for Roger and just some of his words that he shared. Um, it's about giving of oneself. It is a giving of your time and talents, not just money. and he said uh he hopes his work inspires others to step forward with courage and commitment. His advice to young people is simple yet profound. Lead by example, get involved and engage with people. So thank you Roger.
