so we won't be able to take any motions but we can still go through the presentations today and do some mild discussions so just wanted to make that note very good do we begin with uh proclamations and suggestions and so forth yeah we can um if you don't mind i can take it from here just wanted to note some events that are happening in the city this month and in the fall the first and i guess the kind of last is our last victoria farmers market which is happening on september 16th this week so if you haven't had a chance to visit the farmer's market yet make sure you head down there it's over at anki brewery from three to six this week i also wanted to note that the victoria recreation fall brochure has been published and is out if you did not receive it in the mail it should go to all victoria residents please let me know because then i can let our communication staff know but there's also some in the lobby that you can pick up as well they're also online for people to take a look at and they have a new design and they're pretty spectacular so take a look uh and then the luck yeah there's things there for seniors also but i wondered have they opened up the little lobby you know for coffee and sit around and chat and so forth i don't think they have yet and with the new delta variant kind of in a spike as well as other variants i think they're keeping that door closed for now yep but that's a good question yes jen i want to say that i was at the farmer's market on thursday and i i loved it i bought numbers of things but i want to say that i saw patrick there with a table for children's with children's books and uh he had he had some customers yeah we've got and i thought that was really nice that they were you know it's all just a fun looking table what's really neat about it is in addition to me staffing it we also had a member of the friends of the library so and they're the ones who purchased the books that we gave away so it was a really nice little partnership we were there two other times they got less there'd be once a month for free and two other times also friends of the library with us so we're really promoting to get people to join that thanks awesome that's good to know yeah and then the last one i have um well second to last one actually i have for you is the bethesda cornerstone village it has its one-year anniversary bash also coming up this week so once you're done with the farmer's market you can head over to the cornerstone village to listen to the band have some treats and just kind of join in with our neighbors to celebrate their one year being part of the community and along with that i just gave jan a picture that was in the tribune a couple of weeks ago there's a big picture on the first page but on the second page is a picture of jan playing bingo with a couple of the people who live there which is very nice our own celebrity yeah we play bingo once a month that's fantastic which is fun it's really fun julie has a lot of good programs she does amazing she's bringing up more all the time all right and then the last one and this one um jack actually informed me on as i'm going to move that picture down is the senior community services they've been around for i think about 50 years it's a non-profit in the minnesota community specifically in the metro but they're hosting their sixth annual imagine aging conference with a specific topic this year on the digital divide between um seniors and just the new technology that is coming out if you are interested it is on the seniorcommunity.org website i have that link posted here but i can provide more information after the meeting if you'd like but it's supposed to take place on october 6th from 10 a.m to about 3 30 p.m at the hopkins center for the arts it's also you can also attend virtually if you'd like to participate i think it's about 25 i do think they have a senior discount as well if anyone want to participate in that i have the um copy that came out of the victoria gazette jack just gave me the same thing yeah i thought it was interesting yeah will there be more information as to how we pick it up virtually and so on would you have something on that later maybe yeah i think that's a great suggestion jack and i can do that after our meeting today i can send out an email with the link on how to access information onto the event and then if you would like to participate virtually just some mild instruction on how to do that i i plan on looking at my calendar and trying to attend as well i think there's going to be yeah good programs there and that is all i have for um events from staff are we going through the minutes we can go to the minutes oops sorry skipping ahead but we said we can't actually approve them because we don't have oh you're correct yes sorry my bad you caught me um is there any corrections to the minutes we want to prove them but just wanting to make sure and confirm that there was no mistakes made because that does happen all right and we'll move on um to item 5.1 the biggie the senior resource webpage and packet review i do have the possible motion on the screen but as patrick alluded to we do not have a quorum today but we can still go through the packets and if you have any suggestions we can talk those through and see if we want to make any adjustments to any of the resources listed um i did not have a formal presentation to post on screen but what i am planning on doing is pulling up the the packet itself as well as the website so if you don't mind one second here i thought i'd start on the website which would be eventually placed underneath residents and then there would be something on this area that has a link to seniors or senior resources that people can click on to access this website but since it's still in draft form we do not have a way for people to access the site now but that would be added later what we chose to do is separate these into different types of topics general resources finance in-home assistance health housing transportation and have just the basic website link for people to click on and then a phone number for people to call if they're looking for more information on those and then at the top um we would have a link to that resource packet that can be printable but also viewable online with more information on each of those sections and i believe we would have it viewed here for a link okay that needs a link correct it would need a link yeah okay i did have that marked and then within the pdf these uh links will be clickable correct they would be cloakable and obviously once you print it that goes away and then under the general resources that community resource finder and the minnesota help they both need phone numbers members we can check if they have phone numbers there are some that don't have like an actual phone number to call but those might also just been missed and i can definitely add that to my list to look at oh okay um were you was the staff going to look for those or did you want us to oh we can look for those okay okay any other comments um about the website or changes you'd like to see if there's anything missing from it whether it's resources or even just accessibility stuff well i was going to say is there a way to bump up the font i think so we can definitely bump up me some most people know i would assume how to bump up the font when they're browsing but just in case no i think that's a good point and we can definitely yes he's mentioning things which i'm not even aware of so as a senior so yes thank you and under housing the twin cities senior housing guide that does have a website that's not on there it's shown in the senior resource guide but it's not on this so it has a website and it does and so if and maybe that's something we'll need to do um i mean i can give it to you it's no it's actually so if you use these links here um on the screen what where are you looking on the computer screen here for the website if you click on that then it will bring you right to the website itself oh it does yes oh that's something we can do if people would prefer okay we can actually have the website listed not just see now i wouldn't have thought of clicking on that do we need to make a note there or not we do have instruction up at the top but maybe that's something else we can bold so then it's easier to find so we do say click the resource name to be directed to the website but again that is something we can either make separate or we can bold for people for the instructions right well everything else has a phone number so maybe just on that one click here or something exactly yeah everybody else has a phone number yeah yeah because i wouldn't have known to click on that perfect that is great feedback that's exactly why we're having this discussion melissa i found a couple of typos in the hard copy um not able to maneuver the website here but um i thought i'd point that out they're both under the um health wellness and nutrition section perfect and if we're comfortable with the website or if we have anything to add i can switch over and we can talk about the um the hard copy packet okay well i just didn't know if the same typos existed on the web on the online it probably doesn't at this point because we haven't linked to it but read it a million times and you never see things like that and which one are you looking at about on page six the institute on aging yeah institute is misspelled oh okay perfect did you have other so this would be linked on the website but also available to print either yourself or we would have copies at city hall here um if people would be interested in having that printable copy we broke this out a little bit more so we extended our general information just with basic phone numbers just more of that quick look guide for things that are in the city including the city of victoria's page our phone number things like the recreation center the post office the sheriff's office as well as just other you well used sites or phone numbers that people would want to call um obviously included some sort of message on what this is about and why we chose to do this and then it goes into the directory and we have a little bit more in depth on those themes and topics including caregiver support sticking with financial education transportation etc so if anyone has any thoughts related to anything in the packet i'd love to hear it how will this get to everyone good question so what we can do is we have our victoria spirit that we're planning on announcing this once it's published and approved we also will have a social media blast for those who use social media um and then for things like at the farmers markets or when we do our summer victoria booth for the city uh this would be something that we'd want to promote and advertise good that's always a hang up is how everyone gets it absolutely so they would have to print those sites right you don't have to print those sites they can navigate so if we look on screen here i'm just going to use this and just read it yeah so to get a hard copy though they'd have to print they could print they could ask us to print it's about 16 pages and usually for victoria residents we don't have a substantial charge for printing okay so there would not be copies at the city hall we would have copies already okay they could pick one up yep absolutely good okay good all right um where did you want to start um i have a is there going to be a signature from deborah mcmillan there will be yeah okay that's good that's a good question okay did you want to go through it sure sure we can start from the top so um i'll just start here at the very beginning we have caregiver support i i can list each one of these or we can just go through the topics as a whole it's up to you if yeah if you just want to go through and i've got a few things so we have caregiver support like i mentioned the first one we noted is elder care locator then we do encore adult day service program which is located in waconia we have minnesota adult abuse reporting center and then we have care nexion which is a online services that supports caregivers and families of caregivers each one of these has a website or if they don't have a website they have a physical address as well as a phone number for each of them as well and a little short description nothing you know major we don't want to um have false information and we don't want to you know false promote anything so we just have a basic description underneath each one of these any thoughts or concerns for the caregiver support section no i'm going to be really ocd about this not in alpha order and i notice in the other sections it is an alpha order i will make note of that patrick i was actually thinking that myself when i was looking at that one yeah the next two are not but the rest of them are we will fix those so they will all be in alphabetical order and then one other general thing is that this doesn't have a date on it and it really should be dated yep um somewhere you know it doesn't have to where wherever you think it works best but you know people should know when it's from and then finally if you make um if you're printing copies um if you print some for me um you know in case people don't see it in the lobby i will have some out on display at the library as well perfect thank you i will make note of that as well have we reached out to pastors this seems like something that might be distributed through churches we have not but we can definitely do that if we think that would be a good resource as well yeah just a thought all right moving into financial uh you're going to see this one almost in every section it's the senior linkage line this one we specifically highlight medicare support we also have the community action partnership which will also be featured in many of these topic areas social security which is spelled wrong so i will add that to the list and get that one fixed and then investor.gov similar to before the websites are listed as well as phone numbers and on the online site these are clickable so they can click that actual website there and then health wellness and nutrition we have a few from aarp their health center and then their medicare resource center we also have the alzheimer's foundation of america that community action partnership community action partnership is with scott carver and dakota counties they have a variety of programs but one specific to health and wellness is they have home delivery and meals available and we just place the locations of where they have those hosted and the times and how to give them a contact so we have fair for all which is a food group cooperative go for grocery assistance which is kind of a step-by-step guide on those to order groceries online institute of aging or on aging my apologies uh again spelled well there's number yeah page seven juniper which is a minnesota program and then mn choices continuing we have smart link delivery we have snap listed and then we have the victoria farmers market under supplemental nutrition assistance about the third line down contact is written twice thank you and we did list as a subsection of this the food shelves within carver county is there anything in chaska there's just um the waconia listed i believe that was a mis spelling i believe bountiful baskets is actually located in chaska so i can get that fixed oh yeah and then the street would be different too okay then that should be corrected either that or it might just be chaska instead of waconia and then the waconia zip code right i will check on that okay and also on southwest carver county food shelf uh what is nya norwood young america and i can write that out completely i think that i had no clue that is me being from the area just assuming that people know what that next section home health and maintenance services aarp they have a lot of information related to home fit including a home fit guide and just general housing resources again mentioning the community action partnership with carver scott dakota counties there is cyber seniors which provides free technology support to seniors mentioning mn choices once again and then live well at home seniors helping seniors which is a volunteer program pairing seniors with those who might need assistance again highlighting that senior linkage line and then another technology resource the senior planet in housing we have bethesda cornerstone village within the city of victoria we have the carver county community development agency otherwise known as the cda which provides a variety of housing services and resources we have emerald crest memory care within the city of victoria and then a few general resources under housing the mn housing benefits 101 page and then the twin cities senior housing guide okay going back to bethesda you might want to mention that that's rental i think that would be because that's all they do is rental put that in there someplace and then under the carver county uh cda when i researched housing that is a carburconi agency and they do own and manage for apartment buildings that are rental directed towards senior citizens so it might be i have the i think i've submitted that information to you you might want to to figure out how you can put that in because people will have to contact the cda to be able to apply to those rentals those buildings and there is like i mentioned earlier there's one in chan there's one in chaska there's one in carver and there's one in in norwood and um they're fairly large units so and i'm not sure if their senior citizen might have it my information their senior citizen uh requirement might be 65 rather than um rather than this 55 let me look uh no they're all 55 m plus so i think the the best way to kind of craft that um is that we put it within instead of just having that one sentence line underneath housing for the carver county community development agency i'm just extending that more to talk that they have rentals available directed towards that 55 plus community and if they're looking to apply for assisted housing to contact the cda i don't want to mention the specific locations of the homes or i would suggest not that's fine enlisted just because they might change yes yes more yeah yeah we can extend that sentence just so they know there are apartment buildings that are rental that are available yeah of per availability i think they are um widely looked at for those who know about them but at least we'll put the information in there so they are known absolutely anything else under the housing section nope so you have lifelong recreation uh this one i did a little differently there's quite a few and the programs continuously change so i did not add a brief statement underneath one of each of these like we saw previously just listed the address and contact information but you can see we start with the carver county historical society make our way into the library and we have a variety of different other programs and um recreational activities i don't know if you need to put under some of these classes and events offered because like we offer classes and events and that's not so i would do one of two things i would just leave that off because i think all of these people offer classes or events or put cl you know put a asterisk by the ones that do and at the bottom put classes and events offered that's good to know um i think the the reasoning we put that in the first place is because ridgeview medical i think people don't really understand that they do have classes offered but what we can do is i think i like your approach patrick of putting an asterisk near all of them and then having something at the bottom anything else all right you know it is at the bottom do you uh would it if it was centered on the page maybe it would mean in every all these areas are included it looks like it's just misled arboretum classes and events offered yeah we can switch that so we can even put it up at the top so it might be lifelong learning yes yes education put a statement about how all of these offer classes and events and then right right so it all are included yeah and then we have a brief one for medical supplies and equipment the minnesota star program which is offered and then we have transportation we have southwest prime southwest prime md and we cab within the community uh we cab volunteers should be plural top line there who provide volunteers who provide and then for veterans we have the carver county veterans services we have the minnesota veterans services and then we have the department of veterans affairs and then lastly we have volunteering in victoria and we reference our own volunteer victoria page we could make that list longer however those may volunteer services may change with time relatively fast so we just left it at what we have i think it's it's a nice piece of work here i really do i think there's a lot of information here um i think it's going to be very useful it was a great suggestion from the group i'm glad that we're closing in on this and hopefully get this published next meeting or approved at next meeting what my plan is is i will redline this and i'll bring this back to the group if we have a cormit next meeting with the red line so they can actually see what we discussed at this meeting and then we can get that approved okay of course if there's any other other changes that we want to do we can make those at that time you possibly get copies of this out to the people who aren't here today look it over they might notice some things yep we can do that yeah it was on the uh she sent it out oh did she hold it i didn't file i never got it she sent it out what we can do with the red line so then everyone can see the changes that we're making too okay yeah right absolutely well i would i would offer a congratulations to your staff who worked with you on this they just did a nice patient with us do appreciate it um but whenever you are ready you can get started i am trying to figure out how to full screen us there we are but whenever you're ready okay and so i also i'm not able to share my screen um i had to do an update to be able to get onto webex and the share your screen little thing isn't lit up um so i don't know if you have to give me access i did create a little powerpoint because sometimes it's easier to have a visual than just listen to me talk i did email it to you as i was seeing that i couldn't share but if neither of those work i can just talk through my powerpoints um you know i just provided you presenter mode are you able to share your screen now so it's not showing up and it says that i have to go into my preferences and change some things and once i do that do a restart so if you want you can email it to me and we can troubleshoot this and i did email it to you while you were talking um it came from a personal gmail account we will get this sorted if the committee wouldn't mind waiting a few moments not at all and just want to say thank you for accommodating and allowing me to attend the meeting virtually um in public health we've just kind of decided that we're not attending in-person meetings unless absolutely necessary and so i'm working from home mostly well we're glad to have you here don and i can just start talking through the introduction so um don plummer i'm a program specialist at carver county public health i've been there for a little over five years and took over the office of aging about a year before covid and so it's like and so i've been doing it for a while but then in all reality not doing it for very long running the office of aging um the next slide i just listed out some of the um roles that i have within carver county and so i do work on the office of aging i have a role in the ship program the state health improvement partnership i wasn't sure if um anyone in this group really knew much about that program it's been going for almost 12 years i work in the public health nuisance area so that's one of my roles and i also have a role in emergency preparedness which has kept me busy over the last 18 months just because we've had to focus on covid and in somewhat in limbo right now as we see what happens as the delta variant just seems to just be ramping up and continue to um booster shots and the need for increased testing and don i just want to note that you might be seeing presenter mode but everyone else can see the full presentation okay awesome so i went over that um my passion really is to improve the equity access of programming for all and that really for me came out during covid in the vaccine rollout um just how some groups didn't have the same access to the vaccine and things like that so one of the things i definitely try to work on um so just a little snapshot of over the past three years of the office of aging um so the ship funding really kind of um determines a lot of what we do in our department and so three four years ago ship added a dementia strategy and so there was funds for that and so two people before me um worked within the county library system and got some ship dimensional memory maker kits that people can check out from each of the libraries um and i apologize if you guys already know all of this one of the partners that i have brought on is emerald crest memory care they are involved in some ship work and they brought the memory maker kits into their homes um did we did a lot of their gardening and got a a virtual physical activity kind of system set up for um their residents to increase their physical activity and started a walking group um i'm not sure if anyone in the group really was a part of the triad which was um a county-wide group that focused on senior safety that is run under the sheriff's department and is on pause for right now and i'm not sure when that's going to restart and then even with all of this talk about the ship funding it has been focused away from dementia and kind of shifted into um what the department is looking at is the communities of belonging so if you get any emails inviting um anyone to be a part of the communities of belonging it's something new that we're trying to roll out um and then i i was just going to go over um what some of the other cities are offering and a lot of it is coming out of chanhassen um some of it was um made possible through ship funding and i've talked with mary in chanhassen and she has opened up a lot of these events to other cities to come to experience but also to see if this is something that you would like to bring to your city so the first one is um living life with gusto and it's a three session um kind of class that as it's as you can see explores the aging perspective and quality of life um it's free there's one happening in september um at the chassis lodge because she partners with the chassis lodge a lot on her events and then another one that's actually happening at the end of october um it's free to sign up um to participate and then if there is interest in this if you want to bring this to the city of victoria there is a like i think it's 500 for all three sessions there's possibly some funding left over in our ship budget to help fund that if that's an interest at all so i was just putting that out there um if you go to the next slide so this is something that they're also working on and i noticed in your resource guide you did mention the aarp programming a lot so chanhassen is really looking at that programming and bringing some of that into the city to just look at seniors being able to age in place um so that's what the first one is a aging in place and there's a workbook that goes along with that and then the second one i wanted to mention b so the metropolitan area office on aging change their name to trellis and so trellis um within trellis they host the senior linkage line and then what they can do is they have um maybe like five different presentations and classes that they can come out and do in your community for free um this one that chanhassen is hosting on the 19th is just one of the options so i wanted to point that out and then um the aarp has a home fit class um that they are willing to present and um they're doing that october 26th and that's another option and they also have a home care guide that the city or the group can order so what we do in norwood young america is they order 50 of them and have them at their city hall for seniors to come pick up or anyone to come pick up and it's just a little guide to go through checklist of is your home safe to live in as you're aging in place so i just wanted to mention some of those opportunities um and then the next slide this is just one more opportunity that the ship program paid for um and just an open invitation if anyone's interested in november at the chanhassen rec center chanheson focuses on dementia friendly community and so they're bringing in a live theater production so just another invitation um and then you can go to the next slide so then i'm sorry i am um knee deep and coveted so just wanted to add one slide to just talk about um the delta variants so all of carver county really all of the country is at high risk for transmission for the delta variant and so just kind of looking at you know people staying safe through all of this um i put on there the number of carver county residents vaccinated because we are trying to make sure that everyone has access to the vaccine um when they're ready to get it we have cut down on the number of clinics we're offering but we do offer one every tuesday at the government center in chaska um and then just some little facts that our informatics specialist posts for us every week that i included we do have a carver county website page that gives a lot of we on there's a dashboard where we keep up to date the number of cases vaccines break it down by city by age um if you need any vaccine information that's there also and like i mentioned before as the delta variant just keeps growing we realize that testing is a gap in our um county and so just trying to work on how to make testing a little more accessible and then my last slide is just an ask if you are interested so mdh reached out to us because they know as a state that testing is limited and they have set up free um testing sites throughout the metro but they are in the metro so for carver county residents it is a quite a bit of a drive to the closest one is in bloomington and so mdh has asked us to gather stories um about transportation needs to testing or vaccination sites so my ask is if as a group a senior group or as the city or as just as individuals if you have any stories or any input on how transportation to testing or vaccines has been an issue if you could share that with me or if you have any other questions concerns my contact information is there with my work email and my phone number so then i was just going to open it up if anyone had any questions for me well i just want to say thank you again don for participating with us and kind of navigating through this virtual setup i know it's not the cleanest all the time but we do make it work so i appreciate it um does the group have any thoughts or any questions for dawn or just thoughts in general about the presentation and things that she mentioned i think ship has done a great deal there was a lot of information on those pages of what ship has done and are doing um i don't know if that's available anywhere else it is throughout the entire state um each county gets a pot of funding and so those are the things we've done with the carver county funding just mostly focused on dementia i have a lot more to add but i wanted to give a short presentation but i can go into more detail and the ship funding i think through 2026 we're guaranteed the ship funding um and then as i said it's shifted to communities of belonging so looking at each city because each city in the county has different needs they want to be working on different things and are in different places what do those letters stand for i didn't catch that oh um statewide health improvement partnership oh okay yeah okay and it's and it's a state funded group i mean is it is that money come from the state yep the money comes from the states um every time they're in legislation session we have to wait to see if they're going to guarantee us funding but they have um through 2026 so the money's there okay and then it just yeah focuses on tobacco prevention active living and nutrition and then they have added um a well-being component to that because we know that well-being kind of extends beyond the three other things that they were focusing on john this is nancy um you mentioned that the focus had shifted to communities of belonging does that change by community or is that is that universal throughout carver county the focus um the way they're setting it up is each community if they're interested in becoming a ship partner and working on this then they get to come up with what they would like to what does it mean to belong to your community in victoria and so yes it would look different for each community and who makes those decisions for the cities um well there's going to be an invitation email coming out to say would you like to um attend an information session and who would like to be a part of this and so once that's decided then um kind of like the senior advisory groups then as a group you get to decide what it is is important to your community and what you'd like to work on okay and one of my roles in public health is when they come up with these new ideas and new programming to be an advocate for the senior population so just you know let's include them i share my contacts so i gave them alissa's contact information as someone who should be getting the invitation email how can we make sure that you know this is accessible to all seniors and things like that thank you i just also want to note that um they also do workplace wellness with ship funding in carver county and the city utilizes ship funding for specifically workplace wellness initiatives as well and we go for grant funding annually on that we just recently received ship funding through carver county to build a wellness room and a lactation room in city hall does a lot it's a great program i think they also have done park benches with the funds as well nice it covers a lot and so one of my roles also is if you're talking about a new program idea and it fits into the ship um guidelines then i can you know say hey there might be funding for that um let's talk about it so wonderful that would be helpful yes don i'm not familiar i'm sorry i'm not familiar with the chassis lodge what is that facility that's the senior center it's a senior center okay yeah yeah and that's one thing too is um i attend all the different senior commission meetings for most of the cities and so if one city is doing something just like to share ideas and see if i can buy invite members from other cities to just come and participate and see if that's something that they want to do so it's just getting a broad view of what the county is doing city by city and just sharing the information i think that's great as staff i think that's very helpful just to you know see what the other communities are doing to gather ideas and see what we can do better well certainly and just one other thing i was going to mention um you have the your juniper classes um and so i am on their email list and so i can forward when they have classes available um i know with kovid they have done a great job of shifting some of the classes to a virtual platform so they're not all in person and then um through our ship funding we were really um pushing the matter of balance class and um have owned some of the barriers with that is we haven't been able to train a lot of people to offer that class um and a lot of that is due to covid that was going to be a big push for the counties to get people trained to offer the matter of balance class but we do have one so good samaritan westview acres in waconia they offer that class annually they were doing it every three months and they also open it up to the community so if anyone is ever interested in attending the class checking it out seeing what it's about or know of anyone who would benefit um they have opened it up to the public now i say that with it may at any time be closed to the public due to covid but long term that's the idea is they are the one place that's a certified trainer for the matter of balance class all right thank you dawn yes switch back over i don't think i had anything else on our agenda this evening or this evening already skipped to the council meeting tonight this morning so if there's any other business i think that's next on our list if anyone else has anything to add nope all right well i know we don't have enough quorum but if we could just have a formal
