[snorts] Um staff, could you provide the committee with a summary of upcoming city events and news? >> Of course, I can. The first thing I want to note is you probably did see the switch to our meeting agenda. So, it's a little different order than what we're used to. So, this is our first meeting with this new order. Um, more or less the items are staying the same. We just changed the order of them. Um, as you noticed, chair uh asked if anyone from the audience wanted to speak over the podium. We now offer open forum at these meetings. So, that will be continued for the rest of them. Um, but if you have any questions, feel free um if the meeting feels a little weird today. Um, feel free to talk to me afterwards and we could chat a little bit about how the order goes, but I think um it is more or less the same than what we're used to. And the reason that we did this is just for consistency across all of our committee meetings and council meetings. So, and chair, you're already handling it wonderfully. [laughter] [snorts] >> Um, but for some upcoming events and news, we have our 2026 Donuts and Victoria schedule uh ready to go. It's Hi, Patrick. So, Patrick is here. Um, the first one is how community committee shape Victoria. So, that will be January 21st. Uh February 18th is speak of the devil. >> What timing? >> Um Victoria Library resources and extended access. And then March 18th will be about elections. Um hence the title casting your vote. And that will be done um with our city clerk and then myself. So join us all for those. Those are all at the recreation center. And then um we do have our light up Victoria event this Thursday at Bayfront Park here right in our backyard. Um, December 4th, 6:00 p.m. to 7:30, we'll be lighting up Victoria. Uh, Santa Claus will be there. We'll have a dance studio coming out and doing performances as well as a couple choirs as well. So, come and join us for our festive holiday event this year. And then with that, I'll pass it over to Cara if you have any updates for us. >> Good morning. So, um, one of the most exciting things, well, I have two exciting things. One is we've partnered with the library for the drug disposal pouches. So, if you go to any of the libraries in Carver County, um you should be able to find some of the drug disposal pouches that I may or may not have talked about last month. Um there these great pouches part of the opioid settlement. Um that money was used to buy drug disposal pouches. So, instead of having to take your unused medications to a disposal location, which once a year there's usually like a drug give back, um, or somearmacies, some fire departments collect those. You can actually use these pouches, empty your medication into them, fill it halfway with water, shake it, and throw it away at home. Um, it's an environmentally friendly safe disposal of prescription medication. So, it's not going into our water or trash cans or anything like that. Um, my second exciting news, I was telling Alyssa, I get really excited over information and I was given, you all have one now, this uh, go Scott Carver mobility solutions. Uh it's something that the county has been working on is transportation and this is the first time I've seen it all in one comprehensive document. So that's really exciting. Um I think as far as our disease report, everything's ramping up, but everything is still low. Get your flu shot. [laughter] That's all. Thank you. [clears throat] >> Excuse me. Yeah, just email me your >> What's the difference between Southwest Transit and Southwest Prime? >> So, Southwest Prime is an ondemand service. uh you can call them and they can take you they have a service area uh mostly to within Carver County but they do go to several like hospitals and medical facilities uh in Adina and some in Minneapolis and so it's an ondemand uh prime ondemand transport transportation service like it will take you they it used to take you to the airport now >> they still do that or not >> they do not because Southwest Prime has started an airport shuttle from the Eden Prairie Transit Center and um they have two buses. One is an express that stops at the Mall of America and both terminals. The other one is a local that has like 17 stops between Eden Prairie and the airport. They run hourly or every 45 minutes, but you could take Southwest Prime to the transit center in Eden Prairie and then use a transfer to get on the bus to the airport. >> And that's bus number 686. I remember that because I've been to several presentations, but I think all of the Southwest Transit buses start with the number six >> and it's 86 [clears throat] because that's the year that Southwest Transit started. >> Very good. trivia. >> Now you know. >> Did that answer your question? >> Good. Our next item is number 4.3, a review and approval of the 2026 senior resources packet. >> All right. So all of you know that we spend a lot of time reviewing and and creating the senior resource packet. And one of the things is that we make sure it's up to date for the upcoming year. So although we don't technically have additions, this is kind of like an addition for us. So we go through and and publish the the next year's um copy. So, what we're going to do today is just go through some of the updates that staff added. Um, but then also see from the committee if you've heard anything throughout the last year of any um service updates or new programs that you might be aware of that we can add to this before we officially launch the 2026 senior resource guide. And the one item that we will add now having this is more information on the transportation. So, the transportation one might seem small, but as soon as we're done with this meeting, um, we'll go in and add the the smart link resources as well. So, thank you, Cara, for providing that to us today. >> May I just add a comment? This guide has been like transformational in the county and now both Chanhassen and Norwood Young America have used this as an example to make their own. So, I just want to say thank you. >> All right. Thank you, Cara. And this is all the committee's work. So, thank you all for taking the time to do this with us each year and for the big lift it took when we originally created this back in 2021 2022. I can't quite remember the exact year, but All right. So, we have the general resource information. So, just some highlevel um quick phone numbers to call. We try and keep that one to one page so people could just post it on their fridge if they would so like uh resource directory. We did add summer hours to the city hall hours. City Hall is closed on Fridays at noon during the summer months, so Memorial Day to Labor Day. So, we wanted to include that on there. Um, and then we also added a link, we didn't have a link before, to the city holiday calendar. We just had um we have designated holidays, so we wanted to make sure that that was posted and people could access that from there. Um, we updated the fire department's website. And then we also included a section about you all, the senior advisory committee, what you are all about. And we wanted to include the committee members on here. One, it's to recognize all the work that you do throughout the year, but then also um people then recognize if they have this guide and they might see you or you're neighbor um then they might ask you about the senior advisory committee. So it's that approach of being community ambassadors here as well. And then we also wanted to note how do you get involved? So, making sure that people know if they want to reach out to me um or of course you all um they can figure out how to join the senior advisory committee or participate with us somehow. >> There's room at the bottom for a small photo border of each of us. Um, going back to page four, we've talked a lot in the committee about communication and how to get word out to seniors. Would it, and maybe this is somewhere later in the resource guide, um would it be appropriate to put on there how to sign up to get Facebooks or or emails or whatever, you know, on senior activities in in Victoria, whether that's through the rec center, through here, or whatever. Um, I just thought I'd mention that, >> you know, at the committee, do you agree that that would be a great app? >> Fantastic. >> Perfect. >> Let's do it. Um, we also added a community events section. This is new. Um, just one, we've been doing a lot better at organizing our community events a year in advance. So, we have the dates um, a lot earlier than we used to. Um but then also providing this on here because again we recognize that people don't always receive the um or they don't always recognize that these are in the parks and recreation brochure or they're not on the digital newsletter list or they're not on social media. So having these available just in print um might help drive attendance or that people know where they can um when they they um when these events are. So, what we did is we added all the doughuts events. Um, and then also ones that we know that are city events. We did not include community partnership events on here. Um, just because we're not 100% sure on some of those dates yet. And then, um, we want to follow to make sure that they're city events just because if things change, then we know that we're responsible for those. >> Got another idea. Mhm. >> Um, so in here I know I mean I love the calendar throughout the year the park and wreck department they've had a couple bingo events they've had like I think in November don't they or they have Medicare counseling and all that would it be an idea possibly at the end you know please check the city website for upcoming uh active o older adult events >> that's on the top Sue Pardon? >> That's at the top. It says, "For the most current information, please visit the City Victoria website." >> We could also add a line on there that says, you know, the parks and recreation brochure comes out three times a year. I should stop here and say caregiver support. We didn't have any additions here. >> Um financial. We also had Oh, we had one addition which is the University of Minnesota home and financial management. This is a new website that we located which is through um the extension office that really is just helpful for people to understand stable housing and getting people connected to resources relating to home management specifically. >> I think um the senior linkage line has a new name, doesn't it? >> It does. >> It might. We did remove the Victoria Farmers Market um just because it's not being hosted by Anki Brewing anymore as Anki Brewing is no longer um and we're not 100% sure on the Omni Brewing status of that. So, we did want to remove it just so it wasn't um being showcased and it might not be available. Do you want to add in um food shelves? It's find food carver. >> Yes. Yep. >> I think it's find food carver amen maybe.org. Home health and maintenance services. We added bridging, which is a new service to Carver County that does um home setup for those people that are in need, but also takes items from people if they're looking to donate items. I will note for any formatting update those as soon as the track changes red marks. We also added the University of Minnesota to this section as well as it relates to the intersection was financial um lifelong learning. We provided some updates to um to showcase city events again. So we added the um city of Victoria programs and events page which is different than our parks and recreation page. Um we also added uh the classic car nights which are hosted by the BBOA donuts in Victoria program series to give that a highlight. Um we also did the Victoria parks and trails page because that was not added on there and that's separate. Um and then as well as the walking routes we wanted to make sure that those were highlighted through this as well. Um, and then each of those come technically we don't have a dedicated phone number, but in our conversations we did talk about having somebody being able to help answer these questions. So knowing that there's additional resources out there, my question for the committee is, should I put all of these on here even though they might not impact Victoria or do we want just to do the Victoria specific transportation services? >> I would say just the ones for Carver County or Victoria. Is metromobility do you have to do? They is that for people MA or can anyone use Metro Mobility? >> I don't know. >> Some [snorts] of them I think are for >> because it says certified individuals under population served. >> Yeah. I like the idea of having all them all there at least and expanded because Victoria while it's Victoria and people we serve um we're so close to so many other communities and that we could be a hub or a source for resources that always a good thing without getting too broad of course right so >> is everyone okay with that and we could create or more or less just do this table yeah >> I like how it has um the the huge branch of information. So, we could even create an addendum to this where it's just a page that's different than what we have shown here um that provides the cont as well as the fair and veteran section didn't change the or stayed the same as well as vision volunteering and voting and elections. Nord will Nord America should be up by um May. U Chan Hassen will go last if at all. It's really not suited. The the building is not suited for this service for safety. But I may be outvoted on that. Well, not outvoted. I may be overruled on that. >> Great. >> Melissa, thinking ahead for agendas update on the downtown west project. Was that something we could add to the agenda at some point here. >> You know, that would be a committee decision if that would be something the committee would like to hear about. >> Bless you. >> I'm seeing head nods. So, yeah, we can bring our community development director to touch on um the status on where we are for the downtown west. I can do a little brief update and just say that we're in the process of working with a developer. Um I believe they're coming to council in January. I'd have to double check on that um to move forward with the development piece and I'm not sure what stage we're specifically at with that either. Um however, I know that it's going fast and the first parts related to that are retail oriented. the public spaces. There will be a public plaza, a public community room that the city will manage, as well as the green space, which we've talked about at past meetings. That will be discussed at a later time um because we're stilling the details of programming for that space. So, more to come, but >> thanks. >> I see head nod. Uh but our next meeting, which we have scheduled and we have items for is January 5th, which we're going to do a deep dive into the committee work plan. So each year the committee does their annual work plan. Um the work plan has more or less stayed roughly the same with some minor tweaks and edits over the last four years. Um however with new committee members on board, we did want to do a real do a real deep dive into what does this committee actually want to do? Um what projects do they want to take on? Uh how do they want to be impactful? So we're going to do that and we're going to do it um in not in council chambers. We're actually going to do it in the conference room. So, a little different. Um, so then we'll have a little bit more intimacy um in that conversation and really just talk about what we want to see for this committee, what kind of projects we want to take on. So, I'm looking forward to that conversation. Uh, you'll see an agenda come through just like usual a couple days ahead of time, but just be thinking about um what you'd like to see for the work plan for the next year and what impact you'd like to make. And then I just put the other two meetings on there.
