Theme from Spider Man Harris Every song has a musical map that tells readers where to go as they sing a piece of music. The musical map or form of a song can be quite complex. This song involves 1st and 2nd endings, repeat signs, as well as a D.S. al Coda. The song is written in a swing style which lends itself to fun, syncopated rhythmic excitement. Descriptive and thematic music is a great preview to our composing unit in the spring. At that time we will pair with Art and STEM classes to create an original jingle for a student designed commercial. Mah Nah Mah Nah Umiiani This call and response song is a 5th grade favorite. We watched the marvelous muppets perform this song in an original clip and enjoyed adding improvisation(making it up as you go). Each class chose final class moves to add to the various eight beat sections. Be sure to keep a watch out for our “callers”. This Old Freedom Train Unknown All 5th graders across District 196 will attend 196Sings! This event gives students a chance to see high school choirs in action. Lakers will attend this field trip on January 10th, at Rosemount High School. During this event, students will join 5th graders from various elementary schools in singing this song. I Was Here Burr This ballad has a very moving message. Lakers spent time discussing why music lends itself to messages and emotions as well as how small acts of kindness can have a huge impact in our world. We also revisited the steps to healthy singing voices and how to use our voices as we change and grow. I listened to each student sing in a small group and worked with them individually on pitch matching strategies. Dynamite Stewart/Agombar This pop style song is the most current selection for our showcase. This song features sixteenth note patterns and syncopated rhythms that we are currently practicing in 5th grade. Making music is fun and you can see that as you watch and listen to our fabulous fifth graders! Art Feature~ Katri Hanson, Art Specialist Fifth grade artists were challenged to create a door inspired by imaginary worlds and creatures. Students created a clay slab with texture and built their door using additive techniques. Upon completion of the clays first firing in the kiln, the students selected glazes to color their art. The clay was fired a second time to melt the glaze and complete the piece. Please take a moment to enjoy our doors and imagine all the wonderful places they could lead! Following the music portion of our program, students should retrieve their artwork and name tag for safe travel home. Looking ahead…. All 5th graders are invited to participate in the Dakota Valley Children's Festival Choir on February 2, 2025. Look for more information in January for this district wide singing opportunity. All 3rd-5th graders are encouraged to join our spring session of Da Capo Choir. This group meets on Monday mornings before school and starts on March 3.
