[0:02] Thanks to the harsh Minnesota weather,
[0:04] potholes are on the rise, meaning your
[0:07] commute may be a little bumpier than you
[0:09] remember. Potholes form as water freezes
[0:12] and expands and cracks, which breaks
[0:14] apart pavement. On top of this, traffic
[0:17] and snow plows also worsen the damage.
[0:20] Thankfully, our city crews are already
[0:22] on the job. Potholes are being patched
[0:24] up using cold patch asphalt, which is a
[0:26] temporary fix that can be applied in
[0:28] freezing temperatures. Cold patch allows
[0:31] crews to quickly fill potholes and
[0:33] improve road safety until they can be
[0:35] properly patched during warmer weather.
[0:38] And on that note, the city of Apple
[0:40] Valley is encouraging residents to use
[0:42] its resident repair radar to report
[0:44] potholes and other public works issues.
[0:46] The online reporting tool allows
[0:48] residents to quickly submit concerns
[0:50] directly to public works, helping crews
[0:52] identify problem areas and prioritize
[0:54] repairs. Access the resident repair
[0:57] radar at applemn.gov/repair
[1:00] radar.
[1:01] The parks and recreation department is
[1:03] inviting families to take part in its
[1:05] Klondike family scavenger hunt, a winter
[1:07] activity tied to the city's
[1:09] mid-winterfest celebration. Families can
[1:11] follow clues on Facebook to find
[1:13] Klondike the polar bear's missing family
[1:15] members hidden around the community.
[1:17] Clues are released weekly, encouraging
[1:19] residents to explore local parks and
[1:21] public spaces while enjoying the winter
[1:23] season. The scavenger hunt runs through
[1:25] early February and concludes with the
[1:27] Midwinter Fest on February 7th at Johnny
[1:29] Cake Ridge Park. And that's the latest
[1:31] vibe in Apple Valley. Stay up to date by
[1:34] visiting our website and following us on
