Apple Valley Residents Brace for Extensive Roadwork and Detours
The City of Apple Valley announced several significant road construction projects, including long-term closures and improvements aimed at enhancing safety, alleviating congestion, and mitigating persistent flooding.
Apple Valley is currently undergoing a series of extensive road construction projects and is preparing for even more substantial work in the coming months, promising significant improvements to local infrastructure but also prompting residents to plan for detours and delays. City officials recently outlined plans for addressing long-standing issues such as flooding and traffic congestion, alongside a major two-year state highway project.
Among the immediate priorities, Pennock Avenue is slated for a complete overhaul of its storm sewer system. This project aims to resolve chronic flooding issues that have plagued the intersection for many years. Addressing the persistent problem is expected to bring much-needed relief to area residents and commuters.
Pennock Avenue, all of the storm sewer will be completely redone as some of you have been aware of our history. There's been some flooding at that intersection for many, many years.
Another critical improvement targets the Garrett Avenue intersection, where traffic flow has been a source of frustration for many drivers. The project involves enhancements to address insufficient lanes, which have contributed to significant backups during peak hours. This effort is designed to streamline vehicle movement and reduce congestion in a frequently used area.
For those that have used Garrett, it's been a bit of a backup due to the insufficient lanes. That completion is scheduled for August 4th with everything on that one.
In addition to these focused projects, other major roadways are seeing concurrent improvements. County Road 42, a significant arterial road, is undergoing multiple projects and closures. Similarly, the intersection of 147th and Pilot Knob is slated for safety improvements and a signal replacement, aiming to enhance pedestrian and vehicular safety at a busy crossing.
Major State Highway Project Looms
Looking ahead, Apple Valley residents will need to prepare for a substantial, long-term project on Trunk Highway 77. This state highway is scheduled for significant upcoming road closures as part of a two-year construction endeavor. The project, which includes work near the Minnesota Bridge, is expected to have a broad impact on regional traffic patterns, necessitating careful planning for daily commutes and travel.
Detour routes will be in place for various projects. For instance, sections of County Road 42 may utilize Cedar Road as part of a posted detour, with references to Burnsville also appearing in detour plans. Residents are strongly encouraged to consult official city communications and signage for the most up-to-date information on closures and alternative routes.
City officials emphasized the importance of public awareness regarding these projects and thanked residents for their patience and understanding during the construction periods. Updates on road closures, detours, and project timelines will be regularly disseminated through official city channels to help minimize disruption.

Most of the newer or proposed data centers that we're starting to see either nationwide or locally, I mean they're massive in scale and their size and operational demands can have some negative substantial effects on local systems including water supply, ground water resources, sanitary infrastructure, storm water management and electrical demand.
