[0:04] [Music] [0:09] I'm Mike Magcguire. I'm an Egan [0:10] homeowner and I also happen to be the [0:12] mayor. We are uh installing a new roof [0:15] today and we decided to go with solar [0:17] shingles to generate some solar energy [0:19] for the house and offset some of our [0:21] electricity cost. Solar shingles are a [0:23] photovalttaic technology that generate [0:26] electricity. They function much like any [0:28] rooftop solar panel that you may be [0:30] familiar [0:32] [Music] [0:34] with. So, they're super cool in that [0:37] they generate electricity and they [0:40] protect a home from the weather. So, [0:41] it's an awesome new technology that's [0:43] available that offers a little bit more [0:45] of an aesthetic appeal to homeowners [0:47] that might not want a bulky solar panel [0:49] on their roof. So, this is the [0:53] Timberline solar shingle. This is the [0:55] part of the shingle that gets nailed [0:56] onto your roof just like a normal [0:59] shingle would be attached. There's a [1:00] nailing strip here and there's a sealant [1:02] strip on the bottom of it. Um, and then [1:05] this part of the shingle produces [1:07] electricity from solar. The nice thing [1:09] with this is it decreases the amount of [1:11] labors that you have to have on your [1:12] property when you're looking at getting [1:14] a roof and solar at the same time. The [1:17] roofing crew does the shingles and the [1:18] roofing crew does the install of the [1:21] solar shingles. My understanding from [1:24] our contractor is uh when they went into [1:26] the city to get the permits uh it was [1:28] the first solar shingle installation [1:31] that Egan has seen. So we uh we put the [1:33] inspections department through their [1:34] paces and got got all the permits done. [1:36] So we're here at the exciting conclusion [1:38] installing our new solar shingled roof [1:41] today. [1:42] Having solar shingles in Egan is super [1:45] exciting. This marks a really awesome [1:47] milestone in our local climate work in [1:51] in the city and it shows that our [1:53] community and homeowners here are [1:55] excited about renewable energy [1:57] technology.
