Good evening. So, it's 6 o'clock on uh Tuesday, August 19th, and this is the legislative committee. Um, so thank you for being here tonight. And we have a single item on our agenda, um, which is to review the Scott County scale 2025 legislative priorities to provide input because it's something they seek from, um, the districts um, as they make that determination before they finalize their priorities in a month or two. So, oh, Dr. Daniel um I as not being part of scale. Do you have any things about scale? No. Okay. All right. We're here to provide some guidance then. And then just re refresh my memory. Is this like a form or uh report we fill out for them? Like how do we give them scale? How do we give scale the information? >> They haven't. >> I would have to ask Sarah. The top priorities and policy, top priorities in bonding, and support for other policy positions. And then is your organization comfortable with specific priorities outlined in 2025 legislative priorities? Are there any specific priorities your organization would like to add? and is there something on the current list that should not be a priority and why? Okay, so let's take a minute and review these and then see if there's things that float up for us that we would either advise to >> Yeah, pretty much it's on the second page underneath the green >> to agree. Yep. So, so right there on on the right there underneath the green, that's where it really gets into anything that would be school related. >> Yep. Right. >> So, local school district control and funding scale supports local district. Well, yeah. >> I don't know. Do you all agree to that one? I think so. >> Okay. I >> um paid family medical leave. Yes, that is coming, I understand, to be effective January 1st of 2026. >> Right. So, yeah. And so they're their wording is, you know, making sure that there's adequate state funding for it. >> A great idea as long as it's being funded. >> Yep. Right. Exactly. Yes. Definitely. That would be a priority for us to >> but could but could have impact. >> Yep. >> Yes. >> Exactly. >> Uh school teachers retirement account. I don't know if there's really any change. uh truency and chronic absenteeism scale supports attendance review and implementation of the recommendations of the legislative work study group to address chronic absenteeism crisis. I know we received a report on that. >> Uh critical infrastructure scale supports funding for aged. Well, it's really I don't know. >> Yeah. Yeah. Everything else starts to get into more. The only thing >> the only other thing I thought was oh great, you know, I mean B uh broadband, you know, hey that helps students do homework and do everything. the expansion of broadband for something that would be a um more of an infrastructure kind of policy thing, you know, not just school specific related, but the broadband. Yeah. Hey, that that's great to support these >> franchise fees. I would have to It depends on the legislation or depends on >> Mhm. >> It depends on how that's written. >> Yeah. And then I mean I don't I don't know if I have a perspective on the bonding parts because they're not really part I don't know if they really are >> outside of traffic outside for our district. So, um >> I think um >> yeah, those >> things like the location of the hazardous waste facility. >> Yeah, that's going to be in Lakeville. At least the proposal. >> Okay. >> Yeah. So, >> um >> yeah, that it was pretty much the >> I would still I would still want it to not be near the schools. Not yet. >> Um even even though they're not ours. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. I mean, everything else is fine. Yeah. I I mean I don't know if I mean because this seems this is much larger than just education in our district. So right >> you know I think in terms of the points if we're in agreeance um that our recommendation is that we agree with the top priorities for policy. Um, and now are there any um any specific priorities that we is your organization comfortable with the specific outlines? I would say yes. Um, are there any specific priorities your organization would like to add? I don't know if we've ever added anything in the past. I don't believe we have. I mean, if anything, I'd say, hey, ones that we'd say would be top priorities would probably be the paid um, you know, ESST to, you know, that that would be a top one to make that fully, you know, make sure that's fully funded. And, you know, hey, truency and chronic absenteeism, you know, emphasizing that would be probably the top two, at least in my opinion. I mean, if we had to say which, you know, what are your top >> priorities out of these? >> I'd pick those. >> I mean, I'd put broadband in the top three, >> right? And then Yep. That's that also >> super important for educational equity. >> Yep. Yeah. So, if we had Yeah. So, if we had to rank them, I Yeah, I would agree >> that it's those three. >> So, which three were they? Um >> they were the um family the paid family medical leave. um especially making sure it's funded adequately. >> Um the truency and chronic absenteeism and broadband >> the TR OB obviously too. >> Yeah. Right. You know, but I mean I I mean if I mean I I think I mean I think it's kind of comfortable to say like there's like five, you know, because we want local school district control and funding. We want, >> you know, the the teachers retirement account as well. Um too. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, all of them are great. It's just Yeah. If we had to pick ones that we would say are the top >> Yeah. >> those it would be our top five if we had to rank them. Yeah. And then is there something on the current list that shouldn't be a priority? I I don't know if I'm outside of the education part.
