Welcome everyone to Strangely Local, a Hastings Community TV original series. I am your host, Alec Mat. I think I speak for everyone when I say nobody likes it when the new season arrives and allergies come knocking at the door. They're not fun. But what if one proved to be a superpower? Such was the case for one Mr. Devon Clay who had something interesting to share. You will want to listen carefully for this one. So, I woke up one morning and my left ear was so stuffed up. It was like someone stuffed a sock in it. And I started feeling better after the next couple of days. But there was a ringing in my ear that just wouldn't go away. I tried some facial exercises, spices, and ear drops. Oh, even a trip to the sauna, but it didn't do the trick. So, I went to see a doctor, but they didn't find anything unusual and just said it was likely a change in weather. When when I was leaving their office and heading to my car, I got a bad itch in my ear and touched it. But, um, well, after I did that, I heard someone say something so close that when I turned around, there was no one there. I looked around and I could see a couple of people having a a conversation from across the street. I listened and looked closely and well um well the words I was hearing perfectly matched the person's mouth. I adjusted my ear again slightly and well then it all went back to normal. It was strange and it happened well a few more times later in the day. I mean how do I deal with this in my life now? I saw it as a a a great power. >> And with great power comes great responsibility. >> Right? I chose to accept this gift and I vowed to use it responsibly. See, I I work at a marketing firm and one day I I overheard two of my co-workers discussing an exciting new deal that they were going to initiate. But I uh well, I wasn't sure if they were going to get the approval of our employer first. I wrestled with the choice of what to do next. And I decided it would be for the best if I reported it. So, I I did, but it turned out to be a misunderstanding. Eric, the guy at the top, clarified to me that, well, he okayed the deal. He was thankful I brought what I believed was a violation, but then he raised the issue of me invading privacy in. Well, I left the room nervous about that and thought maybe I just ruined the chances at my big promotion that I was hoping to get. But on my way back to my desk, I overheard a guy on the phone with a client, one that Eric did not approve of. And I knew what I had to do. Well, but I had to be clever about it. So, I uh I took out my phone and I pretended I was making a video to send to my family, but caught them in the act and zoomed in. adjusted the sound settings to well get the remainder of the conversation. Then I shared it with Eric immediately and he greatly appreciated it. Well, needless to say, that person wasn't in the office the next day. And >> I have an idea for your hero name, Frequency.
