Public Safety Training Facility Groundbreaking Ceremony
City Administrator Justin Miller introduced city council members (Joshua Lee, Dan Walter, Michelle Vul, John Burmel), Police Chief Brad Paulson, Fire Chief Mike Meyer, design and construction teams from LEOA Daily and RJM Construction. Mayor Luke Helier emphasized that the facility reinforces the city council's commitment to public safety as the number one priority and addresses critical workforce challenges. Senator Zack Duckworth highlighted Lakeville's unique culture of public service and first responder commitment. Congresswoman Angie Craig acknowledged the bipartisan partnership and disclosed that $7 million in federal funding was excluded from the recent Senate funding bill. The ceremony concluded with a ceremonial groundbreaking involving city council members, state and federal legislators, and department leadership.

I was really disappointed to see that uh $7 million in federal funding was left out of the funding bill that um passed the Senate on Friday and so that $7 million that uh we'd hope to be able to bring home your taxpayer dollars home to help build this facility we'll have to go back to the mat and work to get that funding all over again in the next funding cycle
I voted against the bill because uh uh one of the reasons because we were not going to be able to get the funding for those Community projects that all of you work so hard uh to accomplish
