[0:07] hi I'm Greg Downer with Vehicle Response [0:10] Training and today we're training with [0:12] Lakeville Fire Department and I'm here [0:13] to give you some safety minute tips on [0:16] electric vehicles and lithium-ion [0:18] batteries you just purchased an electric [0:21] vehicle a battery electric vehicle and [0:23] now you want to put a charger in your [0:25] garage key points: Get a licensed [0:28] electrician pull a permit and make sure [0:31] that they are using the approved [0:32] charging devices for your vehicle by [0:35] cutting those corners you can greatly [0:39] increase the risk of fire in your house [0:41] so with microobility charging if we do [0:45] not use the appropriate charging system [0:48] uh that an inappropriate charger has the [0:51] ability to overcharge that battery pack [0:54] and when we overcharge a battery pack [0:56] we're introducing too much energy into [0:58] it uh energy creates heat uh and then [1:01] once these batteries uh become [1:03] compromised uh they actually start an [1:06] exothermic reaction uh heating up [1:09] heating up continues to heat up and then [1:11] uh all of a sudden they start off gasing [1:14] which those gases are flammable uh once [1:17] that happens now we have a propagating [1:20] uh scenario where it it starts heating [1:22] up all of the cells around it and now we [1:24] have a much larger fire event on our [1:26] hands for more information please [1:29] contact Lakeville Fire Department's [1:31] non-emergency line and they will be more [1:33] than willing to assist
