[0:00] My name is Officer Kellington. I'm the [0:02] school resource officer here at [0:03] Lakeville North High School. Today I [0:05] want to talk to you about some common [0:07] issues that we see with adolescent tech [0:10] use or with phone use. Some of these [0:13] issues include posting inappropriate [0:16] content online, cyber bullying, sex [0:19] tortion, and texting. With cyber [0:22] bullying, it tends to spread quickly in [0:25] throughout different means of social [0:26] media online. Different ways that this [0:29] can be sent via text um posted on [0:32] different social media platforms can [0:34] cause damage to students reputations [0:36] once it is posted and cause emotional [0:39] distress. With these types of things [0:41] being posted, there can be school and [0:43] legal consequences. Cyber bullying can [0:46] include taking photos of somebody, [0:49] sending them out, photoshopping photos, [0:52] and posting them online for others to [0:53] see to humiliate them or to share to a [0:57] large group of people in a manner where [0:58] they did not consent to those photos [1:00] being disseminated. Another common issue [1:02] that we see in law enforcement is what [1:05] we describe as sextortion. In these [1:08] instances, juveniles may send explicit [1:11] images of themselves to someone and then [1:14] they are asked um to send money in order [1:16] for these photos to not be sent or [1:18] disseminated to friends or family [1:20] online. Um these individuals um are [1:24] people often times that the person [1:26] doesn't know. With all the different [1:29] social media sites available online with [1:31] Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Tik Tok, [1:33] a variety of them, you can use a quick [1:36] ad feature on these social media sites, [1:38] which allows you to add people that [1:40] friends of friends maybe have added or [1:42] are close in proximity to you. Take a [1:44] close look at these as far as are these [1:47] friends that you could add truly [1:48] friends. This is where we see people [1:50] adding friends that they don't know, [1:52] which later can lead to them getting [1:54] taken advantage of by these people that [1:56] they thought maybe were friends of [1:58] friends. In fact, they truly don't know [2:00] at all.
