[0:11] hello I'm Melissa Han with History [0:12] Minute and I'm going to talk about Dodd [0:14] Road the railroads and how they impacted [0:17] the incorporation of Lakeville in the [0:18] 1800s captain William B dodd built a [0:22] road connecting military forts in St [0:24] paul to ones in St peter and Mano in [0:26] 1853 [0:28] the road inspired settlers to live here [0:31] jj Brackett Lakeville's first settler [0:33] made a plan for the first town along [0:35] Prairie Lake now Lake Marion in [0:38] 1855 settlers came and Dodd Road ran [0:41] through the center of town the Hastings [0:43] and Dakota line came along in 1869 and [0:46] took over creating a depot and a new [0:49] village called Fairfield lakeville [0:51] business moved to Fairfield and [0:53] eventually became Lakeville i'm [0:55] currently in downtown Lakeville in [0:56] Pioneer Park which used to be part of [0:58] the old Hastings and Dakota line because [1:00] of the rise of automobiles paved roads [1:02] and trucking the railroad industry in [1:05] Lakeville faded dodd Road fared better [1:07] with these innovations and remained the [1:09] main road going south until Highway 65 [1:12] was built in 1949 [1:24] [Music]
