Fires totaled 17 (slightly up due to dryness and lack of snow). The department experienced 236 incidents with overlapping calls, including one occurrence of five simultaneous incidents. Station incident data shows the staffed engine responding to approximately 700 calls, with other stations trending downward as hybrid staffing increases. Response times remain consistent; dispatch alarm time averages 2:15-2:20 (benchmark is 1:30). The department is arriving ahead of ambulances on 55% of EMS calls. Training initiatives include active shooter/alert training (countywide program), hazardous materials operations, medical training with new cardiac monitors and medical variances for cardiac arrest response, and EV response procedures. The department completed 325 inspections (52% annual inspections) and updated 415 pre-plans. Notable responses included a semi vs. box truck accident with injuries, two eagles entangled in a tree (raptor center assisted), a residential vehicle rollover, and a missing person search in Farmington using drone technology. The department's drone support trailer includes air bottles, heater, water, generator, and software for monitoring multiple registered drones. Recruitment efforts brought 16 full-time firefighters through the SAFER grant program; they completed joint academy training and began 24-hour shifts on Monday. This is a really historic moment for the city for you guys to be the first part of helping the transition to moving from volunteer to hybrid. So we're really excited to have everybody here full-time and look forward to your leadership in our city.
I love seeing your families here. We are very proud of the firefighters that we're ushering in and I know you all are too. So, thank you in advance for all the nights that are interrupted and the service that your whole family is doing for the city of Lakeville.
Out of that 866 incidents, we had 236 incidents where we had multiple calls going on. We're still in need of those stations to cover when we have those overlapping calls that that one crew is busy.
We have specific training for EVs. Great question.
The water is the best thing is you want to maintain or cool the battery if the battery is in a thermal runaway. They're also recommending fire blankets. So, if it's around another vehicle or an exposure is that we want to try to cover that and then protect the exposures.
A unique thing about the program that we are using is that our some of our neighbors neighboring cities are using it and we can share those pre-plans with each other.
This past month over $29,000 was raised from our customers, and those are going to be split equally between the food shelves at 360 Communities and the Open Door. And so we're very appreciative of that.
That was the code that detailed the organization of our fire department. As you know that's going through a lot of changes. So this was reviewed by the public safety committee last month and we're asking for approval of that change.
Project is for the subdivision of the property into 26 single family lots and a resoning of the property from an RS2 zoning to an RS3 zoning.
The applicant worked really well with staff to protect these wetland areas as well as the buffer. And then at the same time tuck in all of the required storm water management. It was a challenging site. They worked hard with us. We pushed them a little bit. Lost a couple of lots in the process.
I appreciate the work that went into adjusting this. I was hopeful that through this process, we weren't going to try to find the most the smallest possible lots for this zoning. And you know doing some statistics on the square footage it's clear that most of the properties are larger than the minimum which is appreciated. The preservation of the wetlands is great. I mean I just it's clear that this took some creativity and some work to make this happen.
