Lakeville outlines major 185th Street modernization project
The Lakeville City Council heard details Tuesday about an upcoming construction project on 185th Street that will modernize the road, upgrade utilities, and add new trails. The work is designed to support future development and improve how people move through that part of the city.
John Nelson from the City of Lakeville's Engineering Department presented the scope and timeline for the 185th Street Improvement Project at Tuesday's council meeting. The project will modernize the street itself, upgrade underground utilities, and install new trail connections — including a new trail on the south side of 1st Street.
The construction area stretches between Kenwood Trail (also known as County Road 50) and extends through the 185th Street corridor. During the first stage of the project, the intersection of 185th Street and Ipava Avenue will be closed, requiring drivers to use alternate routes.
City officials say the improvements are necessary to support future development in the area and enhance connectivity for residents traveling by car, bike, or foot. The project represents a significant infrastructure investment aimed at modernizing aging roads and utilities while making the neighborhood more accessible.
The council received the update as a public service announcement, allowing residents and officials to understand what to expect as construction begins. Specific details about the project timeline, cost, and phased approach were outlined by Nelson's department.
