John Nelson from the City of Lakeville's Engineering Department presented the scope and timeline for the 185th Street Improvement Project at Tuesday's council meeting. The project will modernize the street itself, upgrade underground utilities, and install new trail connections — including a new trail on the south side of 1st Street.

The construction area stretches between Kenwood Trail (also known as County Road 50) and extends through the 185th Street corridor. During the first stage of the project, the intersection of 185th Street and Ipava Avenue will be closed, requiring drivers to use alternate routes.

City officials say the improvements are necessary to support future development in the area and enhance connectivity for residents traveling by car, bike, or foot. The project represents a significant infrastructure investment aimed at modernizing aging roads and utilities while making the neighborhood more accessible.
