The Lakeville Public Safety Foundation, the independent body responsible for selecting the award, presented Officer Sarah Man with the honor at the October 24 council meeting. The award recognizes outstanding service among the city's police officers through a peer-based nomination process, meaning officers themselves nominate candidates for consideration.

During the presentation, colleagues and supervisors highlighted Officer Man's versatile approach to policing. One superior noted that "Sarah has this really unique ability to serve with a heart of passion and empathy and comfort but she can also quickly ratchet things up and take command presence." This balance between compassion and authority has defined her career.

Officer Man's career trajectory demonstrates her commitment to public safety. She began as a community service officer before becoming a sworn officer, and has since served as a field training officer, instructor, and member of both the crime scene and peer support teams. Her diverse roles showcase her dedication to both supporting colleagues and serving the community.

In accepting the award, Officer Man displayed characteristic humility. "I think it's more to the credit of the public safety Foundation to honor the everyday officer than something that I did that was exceptional or extraordinary," she said. Her comment reflects the foundation's mission to recognize consistent, daily dedication to service rather than isolated heroic acts.

The Public Safety Foundation plays a key role in supporting Lakeville's police department and recognizing excellence within its ranks. The peer-based selection process ensures that the award reflects the respect and esteem of those who work alongside the honoree.
