[0:06] each year our Lakeville Public Safety

[0:08] Foundation Awards a police officer and

[0:11] firefighter of the year and this is a

[0:13] nonprofit that supports both our police

[0:15] and fire departments through uh

[0:17] initiatives and grants throughout the

[0:18] year the nomination process is carried

[0:21] out by all members of our police

[0:23] department and it could be for one you

[0:25] know significant event throughout the

[0:26] year it could be for just a culmination

[0:28] of a lot of good years of of work or

[0:31] service the selection is is made amongst

[0:34] peers uh and the decision is made

[0:36] outside of our Walls by our nonprofit

[0:38] and this year they selected officer

[0:40] Sarah man for the 2024 police officer of

[0:43] the year Sarah man started with us way

[0:46] back in 2010 as a community service

[0:48] officer and she spent a couple of years

[0:51] about two and a half years in that role

[0:53] and then transitioned into a full-time

[0:55] sworn police officer uh early in 2013

[0:59] definitely shocked that I received this

[1:01] award I'm honored the to receive this

[1:03] award but um I think it's more to the

[1:07] credit of like the public safety

[1:09] Foundation to like honor the everyday

[1:11] officer than something that I did that

[1:13] was exceptional or extraordinary I think

[1:17] there's a lot of officers that just like

[1:20] me and work Patrol and show up and do

[1:22] their job and try to do it to the best

[1:24] of their ability she's had a lot of

[1:26] different responsibilities from being a

[1:27] field training officer training in our

[1:30] our new officers as they uh on board uh

[1:33] she's been a use of force defensive

[1:35] tactics and Firearms instructor she's

[1:37] been a member of our crime scene team

[1:39] she's on our peer support team a lot of

[1:41] roles where she's uh really in addition

[1:44] to being a police officer serving others

[1:46] within our walls at the police

[1:47] department making her her partners and

[1:50] our staff um better officers and better

[1:52] individuals most rewarding part I think

[1:54] is just the co-workers that I work with

[1:56] every day they're a great group of

[1:58] people um um they make the job fun even

[2:01] when it's not fun we just have a good

[2:03] team that we can rely on each other and

[2:05] then just providing the best service we

[2:06] can for our community we have a really

[2:08] strong relationship with our community

[2:10] members here in Lakeville um it's

[2:12] something that goes both ways the

[2:14] community has invested in us and we've

[2:16] invested in our community um and when

[2:19] times have gotten hard you it really

[2:21] shines and we really felt that support

[2:24] Sarah has this really unique ability to

[2:27] um to serve with a heart of of passion

[2:30] and empathy and comfort but she can also

[2:32] quickly ratchet things up and take

[2:34] command presence you're responding to a

[2:36] scene where uh maybe it's it's pretty

[2:38] volatile maybe someone needs to be uh

[2:40] taken into custody uh and she can

[2:43] transform into that quickly but then

[2:44] dial back down and be very empathetic

[2:46] and supportive of a victim of a crime

[2:48] Sarah man just really embodies what we

[2:51] like to portray as a Lakeville police

[2:53] officer she's professional um she's well

[2:56] trained she knows how to do the job she

[2:58] just she cares for others she cares

[3:00] about people so it's just great to see

[3:02] her get rewarded for all of that work

[3:05] that she she doesn't set out for any

[3:06] recognition so it's good to see her uh

[3:09] win this award this year
