First item up this evening is presentations and proclamations, and it is our pleasure to have under 3A recognition of the Rosemount High School baseball team. And I'll turn this over to Mr. Martin. Intro. >> Yeah, thank you, Mayor and members of Council. Yeah, it's become a fun opportunity for us this in the last couple of years to recognize our state champions. And so, we have yet another couple of state champions with us tonight starting first with our boys baseball team. And really so excited for these these young men to have won the 2026 state baseball championship. And Council would like to commend them and and call them up for a a photo and maybe invite the coaches or captains up to say hello to the Council. So, with that, Mayor, I can turn it back to you to commend these young men on their wonderful athletic achievements. >> All righty. So, the first uh >> [clears throat and cough] >> We'll go through and uh do the recognition reading, and then we'll have the coaches uh come up and say a few words. We have great groups of a great group of families that have raised some really um great kids. And I think one hallmark of this group that stands out, if you haven't been around them, is no matter what their role was, they cared more about the team and everybody else than than themselves. And they demonstrated, I thought, selflessness throughout the year. And uh having success on top of that uh was a really fun year. And we hopefully we uh represented Rosemount well, and I know these guys represented our baseball program really well. So, thanks for having us. >> Yeah. I'll turn it over to Mr. Martin for intro. >> again, Mayor and members of Council. Yeah, a similar opportunity tonight to recognize our state champion girls flag football team. And we're again so proud of these girls. Personally, as a you know, the the dad of a daughter, to see girls sports like this coming to life and an opportunity maybe for you know my 8-year-old daughter to play flag football someday. These girls are trailblazers in a kind of a new sport and I think it's really really cool. So, way to go to you girls and Mayor, I'll throw back to you maybe first to Councilmember Estler who had a daughter on this team if you wanted to say a word or two. But >> Yeah, absolutely. So, I I I echo what Logan said is, you know, girl sports, having two girls very active in sports. I also want to give a special recognition to Coach Erdman. I know he hates being recognized publicly, >> [laughter] >> but I got to give him some recognition because he started the Go Girls program 7-8 years ago. Just turned into a big big opportunity for all the girls in Rosemount. Done an incredible job with both the boys and all the girls program. And it's fun to participate in all the events with the with the girls flag. And we also have a great group of parents. I got a couple sitting in the back, but great group of parents, but definitely impressive group of girls that did some tremendous things the last 3 years. We hope we hope it can get sanctioned as a as a high school sport soon, but in the meantime we're going to keep having fun. Congratulations. >> [applause] >> And with that, Coach Erdman, would you like to come up and say a few words? >> I appreciate being recognized for girls flag football and what they've done here. We've taken a little different approach towards girls flag. We recruit like crazy, multi-sport athletes. And so, pretty much all of our varsity team are multi-sport athletes. And so, we have a smaller showing of athletes here tonight because we've got girls playing soccer, we've got girls golfing, we've got girls playing volleyball. And so, that's been kind of the secret sauce. We have very good high-end athletes that play well together and we have a lot of fun. Two of our athletes are here, so I'd like them to come up. Um And these two, Talia Vescelus and this is Taylor Krieg and Talia Vescelus, and as with Abby Esler, they've been with us for 3 years. Over that time, they've accumulated a 35 and 1 record. They've won two state titles. They went to They were the first team in the history of the state of Minnesota to make the Sweet 16 at the NFL Flag National Championships and they've accumulated an record, uh and they're all juniors. So, excited about that. Appreciate you recognizing girl sports. Appreciate everything you do as a city council for providing opportunities for our expanding city to have green space for athletes to be able to develop and have the types of experiences they're having in Rosemount. So, thank you very much. >> All right. And with that, >> That's one of the fun perks of the job, I guess. Sure. I love it. >> It's great to see our youth actively involved in the sports opportunities they have and then doing very well at state. That completes item 3B and we'll move on to 3C, Parks and Recreation Month Proclamation, Mr. Schultz. >> Thank you, Mr. Mayor and Council members. Uh before you this evening is a proclamation naming the month of July Parks and Recreation Month. Uh this uh observation has been taking place throughout the country since 1984 when Congress passed a resolution uh for July to be National Parks and Recreation Month. Um it aims to celebrate parks and and recreation at all government levels and to recognize and honor the vital contributions of employees and volunteers in Parks and Recreation. And I will uh just mention that uh you know, the the idea of volunteers is something in Rosemount, I think most of you all know is is very very important, and I'll get to that here in a minute. But, one of the things that the Parks and Recreation um month highlights is the power of And right now on in your in your packet, there's a a listing of the different powers of and its connection play, community, nature, belonging, and well-being. And those are the benefits that we get from Parks and Recreation. In Rosemount in general, um you know, we're celebrating Parks and Recreation Month um as as this is our busiest month of Parks and Recreation. And that's really spearheaded, like I say uh in the in the staff report, by Leprechaun Days. Um both between city events and volunteers putting on events throughout our community. Um you know, Leprechaun Days brings people together from all over the area, and um it's not just uh you know, Rosemount residents, it's people all over the the South Metro that come to that event. And And those are That That's an event run by volunteers. And so, I just wanted to to you know, highlight again the the work that the volunteers do, um you know, day and night getting those kinds of events ready and uh they're very special to our community. Um some of the things that you're going to see throughout uh the month of July includes youth sports tournaments. We're hosting a couple state uh baseball and a softball tournament uh this this month. Uh we are going to see a number of field trips that are being offered for for children in our community. There are going to be a number of camps. I know that the high school does baseball camps, football camps, volleyball camps. You name it, they're running a camp for it and usually those take place in July. We have the barbecue uh cook-off that takes place in July. We have a number of uh field trips for adults, our senior adults that are active in in in our community. Uh we have tennis lessons, pickleball leagues, art programs, and much, much more. And so, um just uh a great time to be in Parks and Recreation and uh we're proud to be able to work for the city who supports our department and the work that we do. So, yes, as kind of a kickoff to Leprechaun Days, uh Rosemount Fire Department hosts our annual waffle breakfast. So, come hungry. Uh but July 18th from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at our fire station one, which is off of Shannon Parkway. Um fire staff will be out there serving uh waffles to everybody. And uh again, we just encourage you to come out. It's $10 per person. Um and I didn't write this one down, so I have to uh anyone five and under eats for free. Um if you need tickets, uh you can just reach out to the fire department um or come and see me at the back of the room tonight. >> [laughter] >> Question. Will you have super cool t-shirts for sale again this year? >> I do believe that they will have t-shirts for sale again this year, yes. All righty, thank you. >> All right, thank you. >> And the other item, uh one that's very near and dear to my heart, Ribfest. Uh would Mr. Schultz come forward and share some of that information? >> Uh Mayor and Council, on the 18th, uh starting at 6:00 a.m., we will have a group of uh local uh grilling and smoking enthusiasts taking part in the Grill Your Ace Off baby back rib competition. And so we are right now taking teams. We expect between probably 18 and 20 teams to be our tally. Last year we had 18. Uh we're hoping for a couple more this year. But the the folks that are competing get there early and then they need to turn in their um uh their samples by about 1:00 and then we have a number of judges. We have a couple people on the council that are helping us judge. I've got a park commissioner, a planning commissioner, someone from the Yellow Ribbon, and then another gal from a local business that will be helping helping us out this year. And so it's a lot of fun between about 1:00 maybe about noon and 3:30. We'll have a couple of food trucks. We're going to have North 20 down there selling beer. They'll also have water and soda and things like that for kids. And so it's just a fun atmosphere. We have a DJ and it gets to be pretty exciting. We do an award ceremony at the end and the big the big ticket item that everyone wants to win is the championship belt is for the judges choice or the people's choice award. So that's something that we always look forward to crowning a new champion every year with that. So it's a fun event. The tickets cost $2 a piece and get you one rib for for $2. And we you know we do sell out quick. So people are interested in getting there. This year our plan is to have more lines selling tickets so it doesn't take as long. I think last year it maybe got a little bit long. But again fun event. We have a lot of people locally who participate in the grilling and the smoking competition. And so it's fun to see some local faces here doing something a little bit different than what you might see them in town you know doing on a regular basis.
