[Music] Hey everyone, it's Logan here with a lowdown from this week's city council meeting. Two items to discuss right now and so we'll dive right in. First, that the city council declared August as overdose and fentinyl awareness month. The family of Michael Young, who passed away in October of 2021, has been leading the charge for this proclamation and attended the council meeting this week. In 2024, 994 overdose deaths occurred in Minnesota with 600 of those deaths being fentinyl related overdoses. This is also the leading cause of death amongst young people from the ages of 18 to 24. Part of the plan for proclaiming August as overdose and fentanyl awareness month is a candlelight vigil on August 31st from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Steeple Center Library grounds. Also on September 17th, Dakota County is putting on an overdose response training at our local library here in Rosemount. Next, the city council gave a preliminary set of approvals to a mixeduse project over near the Lifetime Athletic Club. This project known as Aspen Fields received a comprehensive plan amendment update and a resoning update. The developer is proposing a daycare Monttoauri school on the western side of the property bordering Aspen Avenue. Two strip centers up along Highway 42 and then anchored by about 150 unit apartment complex on the northeast corner of the property. So we often hear questions about kind of why the apartment developments are happening and what purpose they're serving. And it's really twofold. First, it's a great housing opportunity for folks young, married, just getting started out potentially in their life all the way up to maybe an empty neester who has downsized, sold their home, and is looking to find an apartment. It also creates that housing density in this side of the community that allows a retailer to be interested in planting some of those flagship retailers that so many Rosemont residents have been asking us to try to recruit.
