[Music] hey everyone it's Logan here with a Lowdown from this week's city council meeting we got a big one for you today we had a really wonderful council meeting this week so first and foremost would encourage you to tune into the YouTube video if you want to learn more about the four items I'm about to talk about here in this video first the city council gave final approval to a quick trip on the northwest corner of akan Avenue on Highway 42 this is an 11,000 ft quick trip so picture the fullsize quick trip that you've come to know and love throughout the Metro including a car wash a fuel canopy and like I said the full grocery offerings inside that we've come to know and expect from Quick Trip just to be aware the downtown quick trip will remain open and operational that has been a successful store for them this will simply serve as a relever for that store because as we all know that store can get just a bit tight as you maneuver that property next the city council gave final approval to the new Ros melt middle school once again a really exciting project on the Southeast corner of biscan and high 42 it's a 75 acre parcel that will feature a 1,350 student Middle School like I said this is a really exciting projects that we can't wait to learn more about and watch develop over the next couple of years and this project was funded by the voters of ISD 196 in the recent referendum that was approved inside this is a full scale middle school as you would expect with full classrooms educational spaces Auditorium multiple gymnasiums and the competition swimming and diving pool for the Ros Mount School District dist outside of the school is the full field Arrangement that you would expect in a middle school supporting football lacrosse soccer baseball softball for both the school programming as well as local Youth Athletic associations and again can't wait to see this added to our community next the city of council approved a rezoning of a 21 acre property on the northwest corner of Blaine and Highway 42 so for this property picture this property surrounding the St John's Church over at bla and 42 this brings the property into conformance with the city's 2040 land use plan which is the city's long-term vision for how development will proceed forward in the community this rezoning also brings the property into compliance with the recently completed alternative Urban areawide review or AAR that was completed for this property that AAR contemplated two potential development scenarios the first of which would be a distribution center and the second of which will be a data center once again I want to reiterate this is a private development request to for the resoning by the private land owner and there is no active development proposal in the city at this time and lastly the city council established its 2025 preliminary budget and Levy this is a big task that we undertake every year a reflection of many months of work for City staff and the city council as we've worked in work sessions throughout this summer to prepare the budget which is really a reflection of the city's long-term vision for growth and sustainability as the community goes forward this action sets the ceiling for the 2025 Levy and budget so the only thing that can occur from here to final adoption in December would be a reduction in the overall Levy at this point the levy is set at 10.9% or about an $85 increase to a median valued homeowner the final adoption of the budget will occur in December but just want to reiterate that this is a really important task that we do in an otherwise really full meeting from this week but as really strong reflection of the city's strategic plan for growing the community connecting and engaging with the community and retaining a high performing organization so that's it from this week's really large city council meeting be sure to check it out on YouTube if you'd like to know more and we'll see you next time [Music]
