[0:07] Good evening. Thank you for making it [0:10] out here on this snowy Tuesday. Um, we [0:13] appreciate it. Uh, it'll be a great [0:15] night of music. So, this is the first [0:16] period sixth grade band. We meet every [0:18] other day, first period, and then they [0:21] have their small group uh lessons about [0:22] once every couple weeks. And, uh, we [0:24] have some great music for you. We're [0:26] just going to start with a little warm [0:27] up and then um we'll get rolling to our [0:29] our program. [0:37] >> Hello, my name is Hilaria and I play the [0:40] balloon. [0:42] And my name is Leo and I play the [0:43] trumpet. Welcome again to the first [0:45] period sixth grade band concert. We are [0:47] so excited to share everything we've [0:48] been working on so far this year. Our [0:52] first piece of music is called Nightride [0:54] by Elena Spent. She wrote this piece as [0:57] a tribute to her husband's favorite [0:59] childhood TV show, Night Rider. She took [1:02] the title and changed it so it worked [1:04] for this fan piece. [1:07] Night Ride is meant to sound like a [1:08] medieval night staring adventure across [1:10] the countryside. The piece was an [1:12] opportunity for us to learn about and [1:14] use more dynamics, meaning different [1:16] volumes while we play. We hope you [1:18] enjoyed Night Ride by Alan Respect. [1:40] Begin. [2:08] Heat. [2:16] Heat. [2:39] Heat [2:44] up [2:53] here. [3:21] I want [4:11] All right. Just so happened that that [4:14] was one of our speakers. So, I'll do a [4:16] little introduction on this as well. Um, [4:19] so next up is our another journey to [4:21] medieval times with a piece called Rain [4:23] by Robert W. Smith. This piece allows us [4:25] to use our imaginations and instruments [4:27] to get across the majesty of a royal [4:29] court from ages past. [4:34] >> Hi, my name is Camila and I play the [4:36] clarinet. Listen for the strong majestic [4:38] fanfare at the beginning compared to [4:40] more gentle melody later in the piece. [4:43] If you let your imagination run free, [4:45] you might end up feeling like a king or [4:47] a queen while you listen. We hope you [4:49] enjoy Rain by Robert W. Smith. [5:08] Heat. Heat. [5:45] Heat. [5:50] Heat. [5:56] Heat. Heat. [6:17] Heat. [6:32] Heat. [6:52] Heat. Heat. [7:20] Heat. Heat. [7:25] Heat up [7:45] here. [8:16] Yes. [8:20] Hallelujah. [8:31] Hello, my name is Sam and I play the [8:33] percussion. [8:36] >> My name is Angie and I play the [8:38] clarinet. [8:41] >> My name is Autumn and I play the [8:42] clarinet. [8:46] >> Our next piece is called Snooze Alarm by [8:48] Muel Rogers. Imagine it's early in the [8:51] morning before school or work. You're [8:53] sleeping peacefully. There are birds [8:55] chirping outside your window and all of [8:57] a sudden your alarm goes off. [9:02] But you can wait just 5 more minutes [9:04] until you get up. That should be fine. [9:06] You definitely won't be late if you [9:07] snooze. [9:09] This this piece gave us the opportunity [9:12] to work on the difference between [9:15] playing staccato notes which are short [9:17] and accented notes which are longer and [9:20] have more emp. [9:23] Listen carefully for the ticking of the [9:25] clock, the dreamy lullabi, and of course [9:27] the alarm itself. We hope you enjoy [9:29] snooze by Rogers. [10:13] Heat. [10:21] Heat. [10:26] Heat. [10:41] Heat. [11:10] way up. [11:15] Heat. [11:33] Heat. [12:03] All right. [12:05] >> We've got one more. And before I uh have [12:07] the speakers come up for that, um I just [12:09] want to say some thank yous. Uh nothing [12:11] that we do here in the band program [12:14] happens by ourselves. Uh we have the [12:15] support of a lot of people. So first of [12:17] all, I want to thank the other teachers [12:19] and the administration. I know Mr. J is [12:21] here. We really appreciate that. Uh [12:23] Valley Middle is a is a place where [12:26] where band works because it's really [12:28] well supported. Um and and the whole [12:30] music program is really well supported [12:32] by the rest of the school and we don't [12:33] take that for granted. We don't take [12:34] that lightly. So, let's uh give a thank [12:36] you round of applause for the other [12:38] team. [12:46] Also want to say a big thank you to our [12:48] custodians here at Rally, the chairs, um [12:51] the stage and everything that they do. [12:53] Let's give a round of applause to our [12:54] students. [12:59] I also I also um want to take a second [13:03] as these students uh have joined us in [13:05] sixth grade. We want to appreciate all [13:07] of our fifth grade band directors here [13:09] in your school 6. They're a great team. [13:11] Um and from Valley we we have students [13:13] from all over since it's a magnet school [13:15] and um it's just a awesome district to [13:18] get to be a part of from fifth grade all [13:19] the way from 12th grade ad. We're [13:20] thankful for the fifth grade directors. [13:22] And then lastly, a big thank you to all [13:24] of you parents and families that support [13:26] these students. We know it's a sacrifice [13:28] both time-wise, financial wise to to [13:31] have a student advance. So, we're super [13:33] thankful for that. We're thankful for um [13:35] just you supporting their music [13:37] education, you helping them uh get their [13:39] practice time in. And here at Middle [13:41] School, we just really try and help them [13:43] reach their full potential and um [13:45] they're doing it. So, thank you to you [13:47] all. Students, give your parents a round [13:48] of applause. [13:55] >> All right. [13:57] So Kareem, Gemma and J come on up. [14:09] >> My name is K and I play. [14:14] >> My name is Ja and I play the [14:18] >> My name is Jane. I play the ultra. [14:23] Our final piece of music would be play [14:27] by Michael [14:30] Bookie uses the first five notes we all [14:32] know on our instrument. It also teaches [14:35] each section of the band and each group [14:38] of gives their own time to shine. [14:44] >> First you'll hear flute and oo play [14:46] their own, then clarinets, then [14:48] trumpets, then saxopones and horns [14:50] together. And finally, we'll rest. The [14:52] whole time, percussion provides our [14:54] study beat and enhances our sound. To [14:57] end the piece, we all play together to [14:59] show our band teamwork.
