So, I noticed that vehicle, it [1:55] didn't signal it its lane change to [1:57] merge into [1:59] um two lanes that came together on [2:01] conquer. When I ran the plate to the [2:03] registered owner, came back with a [2:05] suspended license. So, I just stopped [2:07] him for driving after suspension and [2:10] then while at the car, he told me he [2:12] didn't have insurance and um didn't have [2:14] a seat belt on as well. So, I warned him [2:16] for those violations and then he did get [2:18] a ticket for his suspended license. So [2:21] hopefully he can get that ticket taken [2:22] care of and then figure out why his [2:25] license was suspended so he can resolve [2:27] that issue and not have any more tickets [2:30] on his record. [2:33] My name's Officer Ketting. I'm currently [2:36] assigned to patrol on dayshift. Uh I've [2:39] been with the police department for 5 [2:41] years. I started out my career here as a [2:43] community service officer while I was [2:45] finishing up my schooling. Um, I also [2:48] did an internship here through my [2:50] four-year degree. [2:52] Um, once I was completed with my [2:54] four-year degree, I started as an [2:57] officer. Um, back in 2021, [3:02] I went to school to get my four-year [3:04] degree at Metro State where I got a [3:06] bachelor's degree in law enforcement [3:08] with a minor in mental health. Um, prior [3:11] to that, some experience I had in law [3:14] enforcement, I worked in security for a [3:17] hospital in the metro area and then I [3:19] also did um, law enforcement explorers [3:22] with the St. Paul Police Department, [3:24] which is kind of where I got my start in [3:26] this career field. Um, I I wasn't always [3:30] interested in being a police officer. I [3:31] wanted to be a social worker for a long [3:33] time. And I would say it wasn't until I [3:36] did the police explorer program that [3:39] really piqued my interest in actually [3:41] being a police officer and working on [3:43] the road. Um, in my time there, I had a [3:46] lot of good mentors and officers at the [3:48] St. Paul Police Department that kind of [3:50] guided me along the way. So, that [3:52] definitely influenced me not only to be [3:54] a police officer, but now that I'm a [3:56] police officer, I do a lot of work with [3:58] our Explorer program as well. So, that's [4:00] important to me to give back to that [4:02] program. um that's where I got my start [4:04] and my roots are from. So, um that's one [4:06] of the things I do alongside of patrol. [4:09] Uh I also do field training. I train in [4:12] our new officers and help out with our [4:14] our academy as they come in. I also do [4:17] our internet crimes against children [4:20] investigations [4:22] and our mobile field force [4:25] and our predatory offender registration [4:28] unit as well. And then I'll be starting [4:30] in the school this 2026 2025 school [4:34] year. So I will be going to that [4:36] assignment here shortly after patrol. [4:40] Um [4:41] just some things about me personally. [4:44] I like to spend a lot of time with my [4:47] friends and family. I have two dogs that [4:51] occupy a lot of my time. Um but I like [4:54] to do stuff outside. I like to hike and [4:56] go to the dog parks. [4:59] some questions that I get often about, [5:01] you know, being a police officer or [5:03] people that are interested in joining [5:04] this career field. Um, a big one is, uh, [5:08] people ask about what it's like to be a [5:09] female officer in a pretty [5:11] male-dominated career field in general. [5:14] I would say, um, there's a lot like [5:17] especially South St. Paul, we have a lot [5:18] of female officers, a lot of female [5:20] csos. So, I would feel like there's [5:22] definitely an increase in women in law [5:25] enforcement in general these days. But I [5:27] feel very supported by my male [5:30] co-workers and um our administration to, [5:35] you know, continue to grow and improve [5:37] and get additional training. So, I I [5:40] would say my overall experience with [5:42] being a female in law enforcement has [5:43] been really positive. I know that's not [5:45] always the same for everybody, but um [5:48] I've been given a lot of opportunities [5:50] and um working alongside a lot of other [5:54] really great female police officers has [5:56] been extremely rewarding and empowering [5:58] to do and try new things in this field [6:01] that I maybe wouldn't have initially [6:04] done on my own. [6:06] Um, as far as like the me mental and [6:08] physical [6:10] aspect of it, it's definitely [6:12] challenging, but this job is challenging [6:14] for anybody. And I think it really comes [6:16] down to being like the right person and [6:18] having the right personality and having [6:20] like the discipline and drive to to do [6:22] the things that this job asks of you. It's like an assisted [7:37] living type um facility. Uh our crisis [7:42] social workers that work through our [7:43] county um they requested our assistance [7:46] as they're going to go place a female on [7:48] a hold to go to the hospital. So, we [7:50] just assisted them. they, you know, had [7:52] an interview with her and gathered [7:54] enough information that they needed to [7:56] send her to the hospital on a a [7:59] transport hold. So, we just go and [8:01] assist and make sure to have a [8:03] >> everybody's safe and uh they're able to [8:05] successfully do that without any issues. [8:09] [Music] [8:18] We just responded to a rental property [8:21] that it looks like the tenants moving [8:23] out at some point here in the next week [8:25] or two. Um there's been multiple [8:27] complaints of the dog uh barking and [8:30] kind of causing a disturbance in the [8:32] neighborhood. So people are just [8:33] concerned that the dog might be left [8:35] unattended in the house with no food or [8:38] water. and we were able to speak with [8:40] the owner and um sounds like the dog is [8:42] pretty much left unattended, but they [8:44] stop in there occasionally to feed it [8:46] and give it access to get in and out of [8:50] the house as it wants. So, our community [8:53] service officer was going to stay and [8:55] kind of investigate the the habitual [8:57] barking aspect of it and cite the owner [9:00] if it was applicable because the dog is [9:03] causing a disturbance for the other um [9:05] neighbors in that area. So, she was on her way to [10:34] get it fixed. So, she was just given a [10:37] verbal warning and was going to take [10:38] care of it.
