Welcome and good evening. I'd like to call the Monday, July 28th, 2025 school board meeting to order. I know that uh Director Duffy is here, but he stepped out of the room briefly. Um do you give him a minute to put him at the end of the roll call? >> Let's throw him at the end. Let's see how we do. >> Then Lisa, will you please call the role? >> Director T. Felton >> here. >> Weber >> here. >> W Felton >> here. >> Claflin >> here. Chair Humeman >> here >> and director Duffy's in the house. >> is in the house. >> Six present. >> We'll go with that. >> Okay. >> All right. Then I ask all who are able to please stand for the pledge of allegiance. I pledge algiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. >> Excellent. Now we're here. All right. At this time, I'd like to welcome everyone who's in the room with us and watching on Townscore television or online after it gets posted. Uh, first up, I'm looking for approval of our meeting agenda for this evening and the minutes from June 23rd, 2025's work session and June 23rd, 2025's regular meeting. Do I have a motion? >> Some moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? All those in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Opposed. Motion carries. 60. Thank you. All right. Now, we move to quality and action and reports. That's the section of the agenda. A reminder, we don't have any student schoolboard reps here during the summer, but we look forward to them coming back to us in the fall. >> But I'd like to invite uh Assistant Principal Robin Schwab up. >> Hello. Thanks for having me. It's that that time of year. Um, so I'm just going to kind of tap through some of the presentation, but I want to start off with we didn't have a ton of new programs that we started this year, but we did change around some of the timing that we offered our programs and the length and um trying to really find a sweet spot what's going to meet our families and our students and with the calendar that we had. And so we have some successes and we are still looking for some feedback now that we're getting finishing up most of the program. we will be asking for some feedback from some families and staff and just to see if we we're nailing it or if we still have to tweak it and and go on from there. So, um this is really a team lift everyone. It's like a mini school year that just happens. This little short pocket and the majority of the programming was four weeks long this year, but we had to start all the way back in January where we're it's building grounds, it's food service, we're we're all writing different applications through the state. And I want to say that the programming that we did offer, the funding was different this year because the last couple years we had the support of some of those ESSER funds. And so going back to it is our enrollment that pays for all the programming that we were to offer. So we had some of the support from previous years with that ESR funding that we had different pieces set up that we were able to roll with. But this has been a good experience with all the people that were involved going going through this process where here's how the funding works and here's where the numbers work and really making it a self- sustaining program. So these were all the departments that were involved. So, it really did touch on every every group and everyone was a team player and it it was great. So, there was programs that were set up through our community ed program and I think Jean's going to speak more to that at a different time so I won't touch a ton on that tonight. Early learning, our elementary school, our middle school, our high school, and student services are the programs that we had the bulk of July. So this year we did start June 23rd for one week and then we had a break and then we went for three weeks and so instead of a longer program we had the four weeks and at the elementary we kicked off and it was our assistant principles Jodie Hansen and Jen Sexhau that led the charge on that and we had coordinating from Rebecca Spragel. So with with their leadership they were able to and the next slide has some of the numbers we have 293 students that were consistent enrollments. So in summer attendance looks a little bit different. So in the school year you have you have to drop students after a certain amount of no-shows. In the summertime it's five consecutive days if there's no show. So that's where the numbers are in flux a little bit at the start of the program versus when we're looking at days that they actually showed up and when we have to adjust this. So the clean number there was 293 students that consistently attended. Um that's for grades incoming first grade through fifth grade. This was located at Lincoln Center this year. So every other year we're we're going to the different sites to give buildings a break and to to streamline that process too so we can staff that accordingly. Our summer curriculum we have STEM. So that was our elementary. Our engineering is elementary and this is our third year of implementation of that curriculum. So each grade level focused on two different units. The reading we have scholastic lit camp. We had that last year where we got it. This was the first year that that this is our first year of implementation this year. And then our math for love. Same thing. We got the supplies last year. This was our full first year of implementation. So looking for feedback afterwards on how how that rolled out from students, family and staff. So that will be coming. We do have K camp that started today. So that's going Monday through Thursday this week. And that's just getting those students ready to get in the building, getting families ready to release their stu students to us in in those routines. So that is at their home school. So, wherever the student is enrolled, Lincoln Center has their classrooms going as well as Caposia this week. Our middle school, we have a variety of programs for them. So, our seventh and eighth grade, we have our summer learning academy. So, at that time, um, we had about 51 students that were split between seventh and eighth grade that that were consistent. And our attendance rate, same same thing. For middle school, it is It's a choice. It's not a they they have to come. Um but there are students that were invited to summer learning academy that would help them be connected to school all the way through. So although 62% isn't 99% or 100% we're we're still excited that we got that many middle schoolers to come by choice daily and to participate in some of our programming. So that's our base point too that we want to want to increase for next year. Packer preview, we have 123 of the incoming sixth graders that participated in this program. This was one of the programs that we tweaked. So we did the first week was this is the first time we're doing just a oneweek program. So we will be be curious to see if they got everything that they needed. But those those kids they they were there. They had fun. they know where their classes are. They met some staff and it was really great to see them going around the building. So that was a one-week program versus the two week and 3-week that we've offered in the past. We invited from the based on recommendation from the elementary teachers admin and using data there was 30 students that were invited. 21 students came and attended and we had the highest attendance rate for this group of students. And so they got the three-week intervention in both math and reading and then we supplemented it with a high interest hands-on activity as we were rotating students through those interventions. Credit recovery looked a little bit different this year. So we've we went away from we didn't know what the sweet spot was. Do we give them a session where they only get one class? Do we give them a summer and let them be respon or we're responsive when they finish it or when we're going to give them a new one? So, where we landed is we were going to start and enroll students into two courses. If they finished, we would enroll them in new courses on Monday. And the numbers are still coming in because their last day was Thursday and to grade it and to post it. But we've had more credits recovered this past summer than we have in the last couple years. And the more exciting part is some of our graduates that happen this summer are part of the 2025 cohort. So that's going to help increase our graduation rate as well. Um the breakdown is the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. You can see the numbers there. Um where I want to say this 47% attendance rate. That might look a little like why is this so low? Well, it's because once they're done, they're dropped. So, it's they don't have to continue coming. So, what was our start numbers? I was watching that just to see what was coming in and when we were dropping them. And so, the 47% attendance rate is actually something to be celebrated with the amount of credits that were done, we were able to drop them and still pay for all of our programs. So it's completely self- sustained. So as of these were early numbers. So we had 268 credits that were completed in the course subject areas. This does not include any of the work experience and this does not include any of the the grades that were posted after Thursday afternoon. That's kind of the bulk. Um Candace is here. I didn't want to steal any thunder, but we had a a great crew coming in for ESY this year. The students had a blast. It was awesome seeing them take part in some of the assemblies that we had, some of the other programming that we had, but I didn't want to get too much in the weeds in case that's another presentation coming up in the future. So, any questions that you guys >> Any questions for Robin? I'm just super pumped. Like, yeah, I said in the hall, I'm just excited every time you come to give us the update on the summer. I think what >> getting kids to voluntarily do school work during the summer to their benefit and making it seem exciting. I know um my youngest was in summer learning academy, my daughter went to Packer Preview, and they were just pumped every time, like just genuinely excited to be at school. And I think your team did an amazing job. >> Oh, thank you. >> Yes, thank you. >> It was fun. I ran into a student. I said, "What's been the highlight of your summer?" I said, "Summer learning academy." I was like, "Well, that's all right." You know, but I mean I to your point like it's learning but fun, right? And that's how really it should be all the time. And I think it usually is, but sometimes we have that old antiquated version of like I don't want to be in summer school. Our kids love it. They're with our amazing staff. >> They're friends. >> Voluntarily skipped a week of hockey camp so that he wouldn't miss the last week of summer learning academy. >> Oh, I know. >> I wasn't as excited about that maybe, but really fun too and and the the partnerships that happened even in the summers like Deb Griffith had the kids over there at uh the John Carroll building playing bingo. So I got to go over there and hang out with them while they were playing bingo and just how much it meant to the seniors too. And so it's something that's felt not just with our kids and our staff but even the broader community. So >> our community partners are awesome. I mean we were at the library, we were at John Carroll building, we did walking field trips. We were at the different parks. um just some of those pieces and everybody was more than excited to help out or be part of what we got going on. >> Yeah, I talked to one of the Caposia teachers because it was at Lincoln and they're like, "Oh, it's so great that we can just walk right over to the library." And I'm like, "What an incredible library we have right there." And they take advantage. So, very cool. Nice job, Robin. >> Thanks. >> Well, thank you so much for coming tonight and presenting. And >> you're welcome. >> All right. >> Have a good night. >> Have a good summer. Yes. >> Okay. Next up, we are at stakeholder comment to the board. Due to the July holiday, there was no in-person comment time this month. Um, also, we didn't receive any online comments to the board either. So, uh, as a reminder to the community, there are two ways to make comment to the board. You may either submit an online form or appear before the board in person. If you'd like to speak to the board, we ask that you come on the second Monday of each month. that it's our regular work session meeting at 6:30 p.m. Okay, I will now hand things over to Vice Chair Claflin for an update on our work session this evening. >> Thank you. Uh there's a few um pieces that we had a little refresher on ourselves that we will hear more about uh shortly this evening. The LTFM funding uh for long-term maintenance and the independent contract agreements that we will also approve tonight. Um, and then we had a longer discussion about the brand refresh process that the district is taking in following the strategic plan. It's a good time to refresh uh how we present ourselves to the public and have a consistent and accessible um way that we show our identity through print and online communications. the jerseys that our athletes wear, uh the t-shirts that our kids and staff and families wear to show our Packer pride and also make sure that we're within um compliance for disability um accessibility. And there were some issues with the copyright on the bull. And we saw some of the previews of what the new logo would look like replacing the Apple that you can see down in the corner of your screen there. Um folks had said that it doesn't really represent um anything unique about South St. Paul and there's some new logos that we're still the Packers. We still have a bull as our logo. Um but there's some refresh to all of that. Um and as part of the whole process, there was quite a bit of engagement and focus groups with staff and coaches throughout the community. uh and still being revised and folks will uh be able to see this gradually roll out uh starting with some of the web and print um and email uh documents and then other information will come as like a natural replacement cycle. So signs, jerseys, anything like that will be more of a a slow roll out. But, uh, it's a great way to have some unity and consistency in the way that we present ourselves and market our district and have that strong South St. Paul packer identity. And that was the end of the work session for us. >> Thank you, Vice Chair Claflin. All right, I'm going to hand things over to Dr. Zambbrino for the superintendent update. >> Well, thank you, Chair Hume, and members of the board. Um, yeah. Hard to believe we're almost in August here, but you know, I'm kind of the weird I'm not the weird one. I'm just like I can't wait to get the kids back in. So, I know some people are having a hard time going into August, but our our staff and our students, like I said, in the summer, we're so engaged. I know they're all excited to be back, but enjoy the last few weeks. I'll try to contain my excitement for everybody to get back until we're supposed to start, but it is coming soon and we're very excited about that. Um, one thing we ended the year with and want to make sure people know the work continues was around our strategic plan and just really excited about this work. Um, it's been a long time kind of coming with, um, kind of getting out of the the pandemic and implementing new curriculum and all these things that we've had on our plates, but um, really excited to refresh our mission vision and our our key pillars that we're working with. Uh, we talk a lot and take great pride here. I know our board does and our administrators and all of our staff of serving the entire South St. Paul community. And so uh we had a really great uh process. As a reminder, we engaged with hundreds of staff, students, families, community. Uh we had that great session with the city council where they came in and shared some thoughts and feedback about the direction they were hoping to see the district go. So lots of input uh and came out with this great uh vision statement um engage, educate, and empower. And it sounds simple, but it really tells the tale of how we want to function. We want to engage right from the beginning. Really, if it's our earliest learners, but frankly, anybody in our community, engage at any time. Uh we believe in lifelong learning. I'm one of the first to say I don't know all the answers, so I'm probably get something wrong, but we're a learning organization, so that's okay. We want our kids to take risks. We want our staff to take risks. Try things. Um and in the in the spirit of learning, and then we really want to empower every learner. When we say every learner, that's kids, adults, everyone. Uh underneath that work, we have our our key pillars. And so we have Packer performance, Packer Pride, and Packer Promise. So within that performance, of course, we're thinking about excellence. So driving academic excellence, continuous improvement in all we do. Pride, uh fostering a strong inclusive culture and community connection. We know there's that strong sense of Packer pride. And then Packer Promise, ensuring equity, opportunity, and support for every student, and I would say, and all adults. We want everyone to come here, thrive, and succeed. And the goal of this work is really to make sure that South St. Paul is the best place to live, work, or go to school. Um, so excited about these pieces, but you know, we did have some conversation. I appreciated the question, is this just words on paper? You know, we talked about that in our work sessions, like you can put together the greatest piece of paper, but are we going to really deliver on this? And so, uh, we are. And one of the ways we're going to make sure to hold ourselves to account is that, uh, we've been working with our our district and school leadership. So, really our district leadership team, that's everybody uh working together to develop strategic scorecards. And so, this is what we'll be presenting to to our board and to our community here. Uh we're we're still working through that this month. So, or next month in August, we'll um bring that closer to fruition to then be able to bring back to you all as a board and to our community where we're able to really clearly say here's what we're expecting to do and here's how we're going to measure it. Um not gotcha measure it, but accountability. like if you say you're going to do something, how are we going to know that the actions are going to follow? And so we're going to be very transparent um in that process. But the other piece, we want to have ongoing communication as well. And so celebrating progress, celebrations are important. So um we know we have our our work to do, but let's celebrate the great things we have going on like we were doing here uh around our summer learning kind. We have so many uh great things happening. So really excited to kick off this work around engage, educate, empower in our our pillars and so excited about it and I want to again thank the everyone who chipped in for the engagement process and especially that committee that came and presented the final product. I know they worked super diligently to honor the feedback they heard and bring us something really great. Um, I think Robin already kind of did a nice job of of celebrating summer, but I I felt like I would be remiss if I didn't have a chance to at least make a a little nod to our staff and students. Great picture of Tanda there, Miss T and her kids. You know, she's the Energizer Bunny. So, no surprise she's still in there in there with them. Um, but you know, high engagement all summer long. As I shared before, I asked a student like, "What's been the highlight of summer?" Summer Learning Academy. I was like, "That's awesome. that makes me, you know, I hope there were other great things happening outside school. Maybe they thought it's a superintendent, this is the right answer, but it was pretty quick. There was no thinking. So, I I think it was genuine. Uh, but our staff and students uh highly engaged and of course that means the parents were um keeping the kids engaged. Um, our staff uh obviously we had a lot of staff working, but there's a lot of things people don't see in the summer. Uh, curriculum, writing, different professional development going on. Uh I have shared in the past our teachers are so committed to their uh personal professional growth. We saw that with the read act. Uh we're done like we everybody got trained. Uh that's pretty rare and so that speaks volumes about our staff. That was last summer. Uh this summer they're they're deep into curriculum writing. They're learning new strategies. I know um we got a number of things going on with catalyst and other things. So want to uh highlight that and and again thank our families. Thank you for your partnership. It matters so much when when our kids see us working together in partnership. Uh that just says a lot about our community and they notice. Our kids are watching all the time. And so thank you to our our families for your engagement. Uh and again, like I said, all the trainings, all the classroom activities, just so many great things going on. Uh we'll highlight more of those as we get the year rolling. But again, just want to say thank you. Uh, summer school is actually one of the to me it's one of the most fun times because it's like kind of a lot of the rules that you're worried about kind of go away and it's like, hey, let's just come have fun with each other, engage with each other, and learn a lot. Uh, and that's what our staff and students did. So, shout out and thank you to everyone for your hard work there. All right, so as we get ready for back to school, we're only a couple weeks away from some of these events. So, secondary um has their registration. They have August 14th and 18th from 12:00 to 3:00 and then 4:00 to 7:00. So they can get a little break in there. And then Caposia and Lincoln Center have connection day and kids choice open house August 28th from 10:00 to 6:00. Um some things parents can be thinking about. We're going to definitely need your updated information. So when you come, please be ready to give us accurate and current phone numbers, address, um or start gathering those applications for educational benefits. Shout out there. We didn't necessarily have a slide on that. I know we talked a bit about our compensatory aid issue and um shout out to our local legislators. Uh I know Rick Hansen testified on the importance of that one and and our uh our other legislators really rallied and so um we came back really strong and part of that was because our teams and our families really got those applications for education benefits. So not only did we get that million and a half we were worried about losing, we actually went up $225,000. And so I just want to reinforce the importance of those forms. Uh we don't need those for lunch anymore, which is great. We love that our kids can eat for free. Uh but those, uh benefits help kids in sports and other activities, can help families with costs at home. So just a reminder, we'll we'll be asking you for those. I know we kind of I was a principal for a long time nagging families to turn those in and we don't want to nag you. So if you can just get it in right when you come in, that would be awesome. But please mark those dates and hold those uh so important to get that great launch and and those open houses will be a key part of that. And then we always work to make sure we have great resources available. So if you go on our website, you'll find I hope everything you need. Our uh communications team and our school leaders do a great job of making sure we have all the resources available. So I know school supply lists are are popular. I know the kids like get a little begrudging when it's time to start talking about back to school shopping, but it is good to do that early and when you can take your time and find the sales and make sure you get everything you need. Uh information on health and wellness. We have transportation links for those who might need transportation. Again, our nutrition services team, you can find information about what's coming there and also again that application for educational benefits there. But as always, check out our website. It's just full of information. We talked a little bit about the brand refresh. So, it'll be fun to kind of do some refreshing of our website, but having been around and looked at a lot of websites, ours is is pretty darn good. So, we're excited where it's at and hope you can find what you need there. If you don't, please reach out to your school. I know they're they're there in the offices and happy to help however they can. And as always, all of our materials are available online. So, if you want to keep up with what's going on with our board, hop on the website. You'll see a section dedicated to our school board. You can see uh meeting minutes, agendas, uh past information, policies, it's all there. And so, uh, we work really hard to be transparent and share everything. So, excited about the summer work that happened. I know everyone needs a little breath, but I'm excited to get everybody back in here and get going. So, I can't help it. >> All right. I mean, we want you to be excited. >> I am super excited. I am. I'm like, you know, you can only have empty halls for so long before you need the kids and the staff in there because they, as I've shared before, that's the lifeblood of our school. So, excited to welcome everyone back soon. >> All right. Thank you, Dr. Zamrino. Uh, we'll move on to the consent agenda. I'm looking for a motion to approve the consent items on tonight's agenda, which include the financial claims, bills payable, and staffing as presented. Do I have a motion? >> So moved. >> Second. >> Thank you. Any discussion? All those in favor, please say I. >> I. >> I. >> Opposed? >> Name. >> All right. Motion carries 51. Uh, next we move to business items. We only have two business items before us for approval this evening. First, I am looking for a motion for approval for the South St. Paul School Board to approve the fiscal year 27 long-term facilities maintenance 10-year plan in accordance with Minnesota statutes 2022 section 123b.595. Do I have a motion to approve? >> So moved. >> Second. Thank you. And I'd like to invite Rajoth up and is Mark coming up with you. >> Yeah. >> And Mark Fenton to discuss this annual process. >> Thank you so much madam chair, madam vice chairs, member of the board. Thank you for the opportunity to allow myself and our directors of building and ground Mark Fenton here to discuss further our annual process for seeking approval for the long-term facility maintenance uh plan revenue. Um just to start out, Mark and me been working on this for a couple months now. We've been identifying projects. We've been bringing it forward to finance and facilities as well as analyzing the budget for next year. With that said, there is roughly a little bit over a million dollar that we're seeking access right now with this approval process here. So, we can send the file back to MDE. Uh once the file gets processed with MDE, there's a statement of assurance that needs to be signed as well by Dr. Zambrino. There's a resolution here that needs to be tailored as well as far as the application that's already been um done. It's just a matter of time. um hopefully uh tomorrow before the deadline of July 31st so we can get $1 million of um long-term facility maintenance revenue for our aging infrastructure here. Um with that said, I would stand for any question and mark here at this process. >> I do have one question and I just want to clarify with Lisa. Is this a resolution or is this just an approval? >> Want to make sure we get it right so you can submit it right away in the morning. >> Y says approval. >> Yep. He said resolution. So I just want to Is it a resolution? >> Yeah, I sent out that template. >> It's a minute. Yes. Yes, that one. >> Okay. >> Um >> I want to make sure we do it right for you. >> Does not say resolution on it. >> I can use um the minutes then. Let's see. >> Is this okay? Do you want to We can do a roll call just >> I was going to say why don't we just do a roll call because we're covered either way and then that's easy. >> We'll do a roll call. >> Perfect. Um are there any questions for RA or Mark on this? >> I would just add a comment. You know, we we've talked about our facilities and this is that like if anyone was part of our facilities work group and some of the conversations we have, we often talk about about a million dollars about this is that million dollars that comes up once a year and uh you know it's not enough but it does go a long ways and Mark do you want to just maybe I don't mean to put you in the spot but like a couple of the projects that have been going on in the buildings just so people know some of the things the great work that our buildings and grounds folks are doing. We don't get you here that often. So, >> yeah, this uh this summer the Bay project is at the community learning center on uh on 19th Avenue. That building's getting a new roof. Um yes, I'm I'm very excited for that so we can it's uh it'll stop leaking. Um but there's other projects. There's carpet, there's lighting. Um yeah, just maintenance around all all the buildings, you know, it's try to spread it evenly. and uh projects like this summer we we'll do more at Caposia because Lincoln has summer school. Next year Lincoln will get more projects done. So we alternate sites. But yeah, >> so it' be nice to get that carpet out of Caposia's uh cafeteria so that the kids can spill and it's easy to clean because turns out elementary kiddos accidentally spill every once in a while. So >> that happens. I just want to highlight something. I didn't mean to put you on the spot, Mark, but I just there's so many great things that happen that again people don't see. And you know, no one's going to necessarily notice a roof unless they work there and they used to have a drip and now they don't see it. So, it's not always the noticeable glamorous stuff, but super important part of keeping our district functioning at a high level. So, >> all right. If there aren't any further questions or comments, uh, Lisa, will you please call a role? >> Director W. Felton, >> yes. >> Claflin, >> yes. >> T Felton, >> yes. >> Duffy, >> yes. >> Weber, yes. >> And Chair Hume, >> yes. That's six. >> Perfect. Passes 60. Thank you. The next item, I am looking for a motion for the South St. Paul School Board to approve the 202526 independent employee agreements. Do I have a motion to approve? >> So moved. >> Thank you. >> Second. >> All right, Rob. Back to you. >> Thank you again, Madam Chair. Um it is with my esteemed pleasure today to um being a part of this administration here to recommend the following changes for independent employment agreement for the 2526 school year. Uh within the independent groups um there are administrators, coordinator, administrator support, district support, technology, student support, nutrition services, and part-time facility work. There's a lot of behind the classroom workers here. And um given our financial constraint, this this recommendation here is within the parameters that we as um as an administration met with the superintendent, cabinet and also members of the board by seeking this approval here. Um just a 2% increase for all independent employee is the recommendation for salaries and also 2% on health insurance as well. Uh any questions or comments for RAW? We did hear about this also at our work session previously. So >> all right um then all those in favor please say I >> I opposed. Motion carries 6. >> Thank you so much. I will work with um human resources and payroll to implement this now. Thank you. >> Good. Thank you. >> Thanks Rob. >> All right we are reaching the end of our evening. Um in our work session we spent a little more time talking about the brand refresh. So, we didn't get time to do any committee updates. So, I will give you the opportunity if you'd like to share committee updates, you can. Otherwise, where you've seen uh passion in the district, it's been like a month, right? Um so, I will hand it down to director Weber. Thank you, Madam Chair. Um well, for um updates, 917 met the beginning of July, so a little while ago. um went through just some basic policies. Um talked about kind of you know things from last year, things going forward next year. Um we had a robust discussion about uh superintendent favors um performance review and that was a very good um discussion and he has also extended himself if we ever want to invite him to come to any of our meetings. He's more than willing to come. I think that would be great for him to kind of present all the services that 917 presents, especially as we have new people um on the board. So, that was a great a great discussion. Um other than that, I'm looking forward to going to see The Little Mermaid this weekend, which will be the uh South St. Paul Community Theater production. Um they always do a great show. Um it's Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Um the times are a little bit different. Thursday I know was at 7, but I believe um Saturday's a matinea. It's all on the website um on the uh South St. Paul Community Theater. Um but that's going to be a good show. They did the Junior Player Show was a couple weeks ago, the Witches Princess. Um and it's so much fun to see like 10-year-olds running around the stage um acting and just their their opportunity to um to get out and perform for the community. Um, and just tell everyone to enjoy the rest of summer. It is not over yet. Despite I walked into Costco and they were selling winter coats and I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa. This is a little It is July. This is a little early for winter apparel. Um, so enjoy the rest of summer. >> Thank you, Director Felton. >> Yeah, we had the South St. Paul Open Golf Tournament a week ago today. It was another smashing success. uh honore was Butch Manning. We had a full slate of golfers, raised a ton of money for the kids at South St. Paul High School and all their activities. And yeah, it was a wonderful, wonderful event as usual. Thanks to the the um committee chaired by Mark Duffy, and I'm sure maybe Ryan can add some when it gets down to him. >> Thank you, Vice Chair Claflin. >> Thank you. Um for committee updates, I think the only one that uh has been meeting is the superintendent executive committee and we've been working on uh revising the evaluation process and forms that we'll use to um think about how the board itself is functioning and to review our superintendent's performance over um the course of a year and um getting that aligned with the new strategic plan. So, we've been working quite a bit on that and we'll roll that out um toward the end of the year. Uh and what I've really been excited about is every time I've run into the school for any little errand, uh there are always so many teachers, administrators that are hard at work getting ready for the school year. Uh there are folks making sure that uh the buildings are ready to welcome our students back in. And it is amazing to see how much work it takes over the summer to be ready for school to start in September. Um there is so much happening with curriculum development and teachers are working on their own um continuing education. It's really great to see this lifelong learning. So yeah, excited for the start of school, too. >> Thank you, >> Director Duffy. >> Uh yeah, uh as Tim stated, uh the SSP open happened a week from Monday, and it was great. thought we were going to get a little rain and we did in the morning, but it cleared up for us and it never came back. Uh cool cooled the day down a little bit. Usually it's like 95 degrees or something outrageous uh when you're golfing. So uh that was really nice and yeah, we raised a lot of money. It was really good uh to see uh Mr. Manning back. He was one of my principles um and he retired when I was still in still at Saul St. Paul. So, it was really good to see him back and all the other administrators uh over the years and people whose lives he's touched and everyone came out in full support. I think Jack Petrazooski took the cake with the biggest bid for something and those were four gopher tickets of their choice. So, um shout out to the Petrauskis for doing that. That was big and it's going to definitely won't be wasted. that goes straight into our athletics and activities and uh helps out our programs and our coaches when they need uh new jerseys, all all the different things. When you talk about cycling out jerseys and things like that, the South St. Paul Open uh is a really big part of that and making sure that two to three teams can get new new gear uh during their throughout their cycle. And then uh also another event, and it it's kind of a separate thing, but the Craig Felton Memorial Open was last Friday. That was another great event. A lot of South St. Paul people there. Mr. Felton, I had the privilege of having him as a teacher myself in physics and uh things like the eggs joust and the toothpick bridge, things like that. Um but it's always good to see a lot of my former classmates and a lot of people whose lives he's touched. That was like a almost like another SSP open just for that. So it was really cool. Really good event. >> Thank you, Director Duffy. Director Felton. >> Yes. Yeah. Yeah. The one thing that I hope to do also is is at the as at the theater like like Mon Monica had mentioned this Thursday 700 p.m. Friday 700 p.m. Saturday 7 p.m. and Sunday is at 2:00 in the afternoon the Little Mermaid musical which will be really really good. And the other thing that I have discussed several times already, as you know, I am serving on the class reunion committee from when I graduated here from South St. Paul. It will be our 50th class reunion because we were a class in 1975. As we are planning our our event, it's six weeks away. on Thursday, September 4th. That's going to be our dinner and our real social event at Lost Spur Country Club down in Egan. Starts at 6:00. And then Friday night, as most of you know, that's our first home football game at our Edinger Field. So, most of us are planning attending at the football game that Friday night. And then Saturday morning the 6th at 10 o'clock we are having a tour of the high school building which is being done by Mr. Burnsteingle. He is going to be touring most of our people who have not obviously been in the high school for 50 years. So they're looking forward to that. And then there's also going to be a little golfing game for whoever wants to play golf on Saturday. late afternoon. It's out in uh it's at the Oak Marsh Golf Course out in Oakdale. So, if anyone has any questions or concerns about their their attendance, which we we hope we can get many of our attendants, students, and past friends, classmates, if you have any concerns or questions, feel free. You can reach out to me at any time. So looking forward to it in six weeks, the first weekend in September. So thank you. >> Thank you, Director Felton. >> Well, so many people touched on things that I was going to mention. Um, the witches princess was great. I had the opportunity to see that with two of my kids. Loved it. I will never think of Medusa or Magusa the same. Those who've seen it know. Okay. And I'm looking forward to The Little Mermaid. Last week I had the great privilege of being at the senior center social and it was the barbecue. The doors were open. It was a gorgeous day. I've just had so many opportunities so far this summer to run into people from the district, just from the community. I'm looking forward to next week's night to unite. Hopefully um make new friends, see old faces, old friends, new faces, however it works. Um it's just been a great summer. encourage everyone to enjoy the time that's left because fall's coming, school starts up again, and it's its own different excitement, but enjoy this time. Um, all right, that concludes our agenda for this evening. I am looking for a motion to adjourn the Monday, July 28th, 2025 school board meeting. >> So moved. >> Second. >> Thank you. Thank you. All right. Any discussion? All those in favor, please say I. >> I. >> Opposed? Motion carries. 60. This school board meeting is adjourned at 6:41.
