[0:07] If so, I'm here to introduce you [0:10] to the city's Development Review Committee, [0:12] or as we like to call it DRC. [0:14] I'm Barb Wolff, assistant Port Authority administrator, [0:17] serving as a liaison to our business community. [0:20] I'm here with some of my colleagues [0:22] to introduce you to the DRC and what it's all about. [0:25] The DRC ensures new developments [0:27] and construction projects are safe [0:29] and meet all city code requirements prior to the issuance [0:32] of a building permit. [0:33] To help you navigate what can sometimes be a complex [0:36] or lengthy process, [0:38] the DRC aims to create an accessible, collaborative, [0:41] and efficient environment for applicants [0:44] to learn everything they need to do [0:46] to move their project forward. [0:48] Let's meet DRC Chair Brian Hanson. [0:50] Brian, can you tell us a little more [0:51] about how the DRC works? [0:53] - Sure, hey everybody. [0:54] The DRC brings together representatives from all parts [0:56] of the city that are involved [0:57] in reviewing development applications and proposals. [0:59] Those staff members include building and inspection, [1:02] engineering, planning, utilities, fire, and police. [1:06] The goal of the DRC is to make sure [1:08] that all projects conform with building guidelines [1:10] as well as fire and life safety requirements associated [1:13] with the project. [1:14] - The staff meets about twice a month to review development [1:16] or building applications and hold meetings with applicants [1:20] to address their questions. [1:21] Our goal is to provide clear and complete feedback [1:24] and speedy service to developers [1:26] and new business owners in our community. [1:28] There is no cost or application fee [1:30] to request feedback on a project from the DRC. [1:32] And this is Mike Centinario. [1:34] He's a planning supervisor in our Planning division. [1:37] Mike, can you tell us a little bit [1:38] about how a project gets reviewed in the DRC? [1:42] - It all starts with a pre-application review. [1:44] We ask that folks meet with staff to outline their ideas [1:48] and what they're proposing. [1:50] We recommend that they provide as much detail as possible, [1:53] like plans or technical data, [1:55] that way staff can do as best we can in providing feedback. [1:58] - And that's a wrap.
