[0:00] (gentle music) [0:01] - Well, water's a limited source. [0:03] Most of our crops, if not all of our crops, [0:05] are irrigated through drip irrigation instead of sprinklers. [0:08] And that's just a way of being able [0:10] to put the water where you want it [0:11] and not damage the plant with water, second of all, [0:14] but third, you don't need to put the water in the air, [0:16] so your typical impact sprinklers [0:18] that spray water everywhere, [0:19] puts the water everywhere, [0:20] and you only need it where the plants are. [0:22] And so the key to watering on a farm [0:24] is a little differently than what you do in your home, [0:27] but you wanna make sure you get all of the water down deep [0:30] so your plant's encouraged to grow roots down deep, [0:33] and then you want to increase your organic matter, [0:36] which then holds the water that's there, [0:38] either from the rain or from the irrigation. [0:40] By conserving the water, you're able to protect the soils, [0:43] you're able to protect your land, [0:44] you're able to protect the plant [0:45] and the crops that you have. [0:47] And so, if you're at all concerned about [0:49] the ability to have fresh drinking water later, [0:52] then we need to start working with it today. [0:55] - Thank you for sharing your water conservation story. [0:58] I love hearing more about the many ways [1:00] Bloomington saves water. [1:02] Share your water conservation story. [1:04] Tag the city, and use the hashtag #BloomingtonSavesWater.
