[0:00] (quirky piano music) [0:02] - [Rob Couillard] I was just kind of looking [0:03] for some part-time job, [0:04] and I have fun doing it since I'm retired. [0:07] - As a parent of three kids, [0:08] who are all basically all grown up, [0:10] I know every parent needs to have somebody [0:13] to watch their children, who cares. [0:15] - And it's great for us because we get that [0:17] multi-generational staffing with our young learners. [0:21] - The Older Adult Job Fair is a culmination [0:23] of typically 20 plus employers that we bring in, in person, [0:27] to display or advertise any jobs that they are hiring for. [0:32] - I never would've guessed these places were looking, [0:36] and it's not something I would've looked at on my own, [0:39] so to have them all condensed into one area was like, [0:41] "Oh, this is great." [0:43] - It's just a easy way to go through and meet people, [0:46] instead of just applying for a job online, [0:48] you actually meet the people you may be working with or for. [0:51] They're looking for people that are willing [0:53] to pick up some hours, have some fun, and get involved. [0:56] - It's really a natural fit for Martin Luther Campus [0:59] and the Bloomington Public Health Team [1:01] and Anne Sattler to be involved [1:02] because we both are committed to seniors. [1:04] We have people that live on our campus [1:06] and we support them in those ways, [1:08] but we're also a resource to all seniors in the community. [1:10] We want everyone to thrive and to be as independent [1:13] and successful as possible. [1:14] - We were invited to come in as an employer [1:17] and recruit staff. [1:18] One of our biggest selling points is, [1:20] we say, "Get paid to play," [1:22] 'cause you get to hang out with kids [1:23] and entertain 'em, keep 'em busy and safe with us. [1:26] - And I worked for the YMCA for 32 years, [1:28] so it's pretty much, was a natural fit. [1:30] - I would encourage any person that has retired, [1:34] whatever your age, there is something you can do. [1:38] - [Ann Sattler] We try to bring in new employers each year. [1:40] We really have a variety. [1:41] - One of the things that our seniors will ask [1:43] when they're thinking about coming to the event [1:45] is, "Do I need to wear a suit?" [1:46] "Do I need to have a resume?" [1:47] "Do I need to be ready to do an interview?" [1:49] And we really assure them [1:50] that it's meant to be a casual setting [1:52] where come in your normal clothes, [1:54] it's really about talking with people. [1:55] - [Ann Sattler] This year's Job Fair is gonna be Tuesday, [1:57] August 13th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, [2:00] it's gonna be happening at Creekside Community Center [2:02] at 9801 Penn Avenue South in Bloomington. [2:05] We're really excited to welcome seniors to learn more. [2:08] (smooth classical music)
