[0:00] (bright piano music) [0:03] - Normandale's mission is to foster every student's talent, [0:08] and our work in music does exactly this. [0:11] Music department's mission is serving [0:15] to students and community. [0:18] We are open to all types of students [0:21] with diverse abilities. [0:23] My students are confident musicians, hardworking, [0:28] and dedicated to the work of music. [0:31] - I like playing piano called Mozart. [0:36] (bright piano music) [0:39] - [Soojung] Piano Ensemble class is about two students [0:44] working at the same instrument in collaboration. [0:47] The instructor coaches the duo [0:49] through the process of learning the music. [0:52] We work together. [0:54] Our goal is to produce music we can perform [0:58] at the end of the semester. [0:59] (bright piano music continues) [1:05] I have been piano instructor over 20 years [1:08] and I started in Normandale three years ago. [1:10] So for James, it's the third semester, [1:12] but we started this piano ensemble with Brandon late August, [1:18] beginning of September. [1:19] Last semester I had another autistic student, [1:22] also piano major. [1:24] I don't do any, like different things, [1:26] we all of us love music and then we meet in music. [1:31] - [Brandon] I really listen to James [1:33] and it's like we're talking using our music. [1:37] - The language of music is universal, [1:40] so we just focus on success. [1:43] It's double rewarding (laughs) [1:45] because, I mean, I really appreciate [1:47] how much they love music. [1:49] It's the same as me, (laughs) [1:51] so we can kind of, yeah, share, [1:53] have some, like common feelings. [1:55] - [Director] When you're creating your beautiful music, [1:58] how does that feel? [1:59] - It feels happy. [2:00] (audience applauding)
